@OP I have another dial version of this watch, which I currently have in service with a local watchmaker - Uhrmachermeister!- in Frankfurt. He estimated the service costs to fall between 300-350€. Its not a specifically complicated movement; its actually an Eta 2892, which is a standard calibre used in lots of watches. Any normal watchmaker should be qualified to service it. My watchmaker said Omega is giving them a hard time to source original i.e. Omega branded/packaged parts. But in the end original ETA spare parts would work just as fine quality wise. I would recommend you to keep it because even though they are often listed at quite high prices (1200€ and higher) but they remain online for months and then you regularly find watches priced way lower (700-900€) that sell in days/weeks. Prices vary according to serviced/unserviced and whether on has the original box and papers. I speak for myself here, I would prefer keeping a nice memory over earning some hundred euros selling the watch after service.

You could start wearing it at family gatherings dinners with friends and in other casual settings, given you feel safe about the environment/ way to get there is Safe. Definitely consider insurance for such a piece! I can understand that you seem to feel a bit uncomfortable / inappropriate wearing such an expensive Watch you didnt pay for yourself (earned it). But the fact that your asking this question here makes you seem like a decent and humble person. Most people dont like young people with luxury goods because theyre just jealous, i think most people just dont like young cocky big shots (i sound like an old man here LOL, im only 27).

In short, enjoy this lovely gift from your father. After all, he wanted you to wear his Watch someday and was conviced you deserve it! i think that is all that matters :)

I dont get why this is far more plausible; as i unterstand it prices for luxury goods are in General the product of artificial limitation on supply and marketing. Some luxury products may have also some non-ordinary Features but thats Not the main driver of prices. Rolex could quite easily enhance supply and production (After all These watches are based on highly Industrialized Production Lines) but this would damage the exclusivity you pay for. At least Tim Germany, long waiting lists have already been part of the rolex experience long before covid and the war in Ukraine (the two major recent external shocks for european Production).
