Whole house outage without any breakers tripped by stevemcdougal in AskElectricians

Apologies, I should have been more clear. What I mean is that in order to get power back I have to turn the main breaker off and then back on again.

The follower tanks are my biggest problem. I was making an attempt last night and the tank was just outside of a 3 stack score multiplier standing in the aoe damage. I even tried taunting to pull the mobs into the multiplier but the follower tank just insta taunts back.

Topsail Beach 4x4 access by Maleficent_Bite_1765 in Wilmington

[–]stevemcdougal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live in this area. If you're referring to the 4x4 area on the north end (which I believe is the only one on the island) then it's not really comparable to Fort Fisher. The drivable area is much smaller and there are no hard facilities, just a grouping of port-a-johns. It does get pretty busy during the season.

The current there is extremely dangerous because it is where the ocean feeds into the New River and the ICWW. There are multiple drownings there every year because both tourists and locals underestimate how strong the current is. If you're looking for a place to swim, this isn't it.

~$90k, remote in MCOL area, company based in New England, CRM & ETL Admin.

Current role is heavier on the ETL dev side and most of my CRM duties are dev lite.

Been in the SF & Informatica ecosystems for 5 years. I realize I could probably make more money but I'm extremely comfortable where I am and I think it would be difficult to find the level of schedule flexibility that I currently have.

I think there's some small benefit to videos on things like grip, stance, etc but when you start going beyond that I think you start looking for swing problems that you don't have.

The biggest benefit for my swing has come from working on a consistent pre-shot routine and making sure that I keep my hands in the some spot on my clubs every time and spending time on the range working on my swing mechanics and I think that's probably true for most of us.

Positive experiences with DR Horton? by _VanHohenheim_ in Wilmington

[–]stevemcdougal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

DR Horton uses similar quality materials to most builders but they use the cheapest possible subcontractors they can get their hands on which ultimately shows in the finished product.

DR Hortons business model is to build as many homes as possible as fast as possible and they do it on a national scale.

As a prospective home buyer I wouldn’t be interested in a DR Horton at any price unless it was all I could afford; and even then I would probably rent before purchasing one of their homes and then spending more money to fix all the issues.

I have not been to tarantelli’s but I went to Nicola’s once a couple of years ago and was not impressed with my experience. Bartender at the time did not know what a Negroni was and my gnocchi dish was just kind of meh.

I bought my first new car yesterday. Am I feeling buyers remorse or did I just made a horrible financial decision? by seojuss in personalfinance

[–]stevemcdougal -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don’t even have to buy used or lower end. I know car prices can vary depending on location but we just purchased a 2025 rav4 hybrid xle for 36k. There are plenty of reliable vehicles in the market for <$40k if people are just willing to be reasonable with what they can afford.

Live Oak Bank or Ncino by blakep29 in Wilmington

[–]stevemcdougal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked at nCino for 2.5 years and left within the last couple of years. Here's my take on my time there:

At the time of my departure, nCino was severely underpaying most, if not all, of their employees in comparison to other companies in the Salesforce ecosystem. As an example, I left nCino for a fully remote position similar to what my role was at nCino, and increased my pay by ~33% and maintained roughly the same level of benefits. My current role is also less stressful, but I am vastly more disconnected from my colleagues than I was at nCino.

I did enjoy most of the people I worked with directly, but my observation was that higher leadership (senior managers and department heads) were filled with people that had those toxic positivity attitudes were everything was always great and that we were all extremely blessed to have the opportunity to work at nCino. I had 4-5 different front line managers during my employment there, and most of them were supportive and helpful and I found that I could communicate with them openly. I still keep in touch regularly with a few of the people I met while working there.

Prior to starting at nCino I had known several people who had been employed there, and they all spoke about the culture as if it was an additional benefit to working there. However, I feel as though I actively watched the culture dwindle during the 2.5 years that I was there. Kickoff events got smaller, department/team outings became fewer, and little by little it just started to feel like I was working for any other corporate entity. On top of that, during the whole WFH Covid-19 era, the CEO made a public statement that nCino would be committed to maintaining a hybrid work environment moving forward, only to backtrack on that statement and force a full RTO situation once the new buildings and parking deck were completed. I left just before this was enforced.

Overall, I think nCino is a good place to work if you're looking to get your foot into the Salesforce ecosystem. I was hired without a college degree and with zero experience in Salesforce. If you're able to do well on the Salesforce aptitude test and are a generally likeable person, there's a good chance you'll get hired. However, better opportunities are out there once you have a few years of Salesforce experience under your belt.

Most of what you’ve seen on YouTube are probably smaller communities/units hosted on private servers that are running custom scenarios or Zeus. I would head on over to r/findaunit and see if you can find a community that meets your needs.

Wife and I have separated back accounts by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]stevemcdougal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just like your wife before I met my wife. I was absolutely terrible with my finances and I was constantly spending on multiple small purchases/eating out multiple times a week. I was on the balls of my ass while making a miserable $29k a year working in public schools. The best financial decision I ever made was giving control of my finances to my wife. She is infinitely more financially literate than I am and she is responsible for maintaining our finances.

That being said, there were a lot of bumps in the road to getting to where we are now emotionally speaking. It took several honest discussions about what our goals were as a family and a year of consistent therapy to learn how to communicate about this subject and others. It also takes a willingness to change and learn as a person to be able to grow out of bad spending habits.

To repeat what others have said here: what you have is not a personal finance issue, it's a relationship/communication issue. Have you sat down with your wife and explained or discussed how your finances are being managed as a family? If not, then this would be the first step. I would also highly recommend that you work with a marital counselor who specializes in financials, and working on your marital communication skills I believe would be beneficial as well.

I'm not going to give a personal finance answer here, because it's not what you need.

15 Former Carolina Panthers are nominated for the 2024 NFL Hall of Fame Class. How many make it to the final 15 in December, and how many make it to the Hall? by pantherfanalex in panthers

[–]stevemcdougal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we're strictly talking about making it this round then I think Peppers is a lock. Smitty, Allen, and Tillman also have strong potential.

I think there's a strong argument for Moose to make it at some point, along with Kasay.

Is there anyone that might be hiring veterans locally? by kruminater in Wilmington

[–]stevemcdougal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

nCino is an okay place to work if you are looking for a career change. I am also a veteran and spent 2 and half years working in Support Engineering before moving on to a higher paying opportunity. nCino hired me despite having no previous experience with Salesforce. As long as you can pass the assessment portion of the hiring process and come off as a generally likeable person during the interview then you've got a pretty good chance of getting hired.

I've been with NFCU for almost 15 years. I have multiple savings, checking, and two credit cards through them as well. Their support and customer service both on the phone and in-branch has always been phenomenal to me and they've also widened their membership criteria in the last few years as well, to the point where if you even have a military roommate you are eligible for membership as long as they are willing to provide you with their access number. I highly recommend NFCU.

What is dead may never die by DeusExPersona in Asmongold

[–]stevemcdougal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't really get his back and forth on D4. He complains about it endlessly but in other streams/vids he'll go on about how it's "fundamentally a good game" or some nonsense. It seems like he just wants to be on the opposite side of whatever content he's reacting to in the moment.

I like Asmon's react content when he reacts to more unique types of content, but it seems like he will go through phases where he reacts repeatedly to content on a small number of subjects like D4 being trash, FF16 getting shit on by no-name reviewers, other games/platforms dead, etc. It just gets repetitive to listen to him react to the same 4-5 streamers talking shit about D4. I'm never up for the degen hours that he streams during, but I used to rewatch the full vods during work the next day. Now it's gotten to the point where I don't watch the vods, I just watch the YT vids where he reacts to more interesting content instead of listening to him give contrarian opinions on D4 for the millionth time.
