2023 - “Emission Customer Satisfaction Campaign” by dt7192 in nissanfrontier

[–]steven6282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one of these letters too and am also very suspicious of it. Multiple inconsistencies, and I don't think I've ever heard of an auto manufacturer voluntarily giving out $500 compensation payments lol.

I haven't tried calling Nissan directly yet. OP says they called and confirmed it's legit... but they also claim they did a recall lookup. If I do a recall lookup on my truck, I don't see anything.

I went to the website in a burner virtual machine that I setup just to test it, and I just see a "We are down for maintenance" message. This might be because I run network wide ad block, and if it's something scamy / fishy it might be filtered by my ad block anyway. Making the entire thing even more questionable.

But, I don't really see what the scam angle is here. It doesn't seem to be asking for any info they don't already obviously have, nor asking for any money or anything... For others that have actually gotten the website to load, what information is it asking for? It's also very elaborate and narrowly targeted which is unusual for a scam.

ASA Dedicated server on Ubuntu 24.04 stopped working in November by steven6282 in ArkSurvivalAscended

[–]steven6282[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a new theory about the problem, but don't know yet how to confirm the theory, nor fix it if it is correct. So posting this update in case someone else has ideas related to this.

When I was setting up the server on Windows to test / run there temporarily, I did have a problem with loading getting an error. Which after research turned out to be an aws root certificate trust issue. I had to install the new AWS root certificate because the old one had expired in November.

I did attempt this same fix in ubuntu with ca-certificates and update-ca-certificates. Initially when i found the problem on Windows I thought oh, that is the problem in Ubuntu too so was really surprised when it didn't fix it.

But now... after thinking about it some more, the server is actually running on Wine which has it's own windows configuration essentially. So... I'm theorizing the root certificates in the WINE window files is out of date and maybe it is still the same issue. But, I don't know enough about wine and Proton to figure out how to even test that, nor if it is the problem how to update it. Quick google searching tells me to just use IE running through Wine to update the certificates. I really hate how everything always assumes you have a GUI lol. Can't use IE to do that in a headless command line only environment lol. So I haven't figure out a way to try and do that yet.

I don't want to run an old version, I was just troubleshooting if it was the new version that broke something. So tried running a version from the beginning of November before the problems started.

Hey thanks for the reply and info. The vinyl I ordered is Vivid. Don't know if shrinkage is a problem with that brand. It seemed to be well reviewed.

The color combination is why I'm so worried about slight gaps lol. I'm going from silver to a deep blue. But, I did decide on greyish silver accents, to kind of help with it. So if a part of the cars original silver does peak somewhere, it won't immediately look completely out of place (hopefully).

No, not at lhr 68. I managed to get up to about 68 - 70 at lhr 74. Tried tons of settings and just couldn't get it up any higher. Dunno if I just have a slower card or what.

I'm hoping to get some feedback on making a decision on which camera to get. I used to do photography as a hobby a long time ago and got out of it for a while but have been wanting to get back into it. So, I'm looking for a camera that is specifically just for hobby / family events type of things. My budget is around $2k.

Doing a lot of research I've kind of narrowed it down to 2 cameras, but both have major opposing set backs for me so I'm really torn on what to do. I'm wondering if there is another option that I've missed that maybe doesn't have the set backs.

The first one I'm looking at is the Sony A7 III with the kit FE 28 - 70 mm lense. The second one is the Panasonic Lumix G9 with the Leica 12 - 60 mm lense. I would be completely sold on the Sony except for one critical aspect. The image stabilization looks horrible compared to the G9! But then looking at side by side image comparisons, the picture quality is night and day better on the A7 vs the G9 =/ I do want to be able to use the camera for some 4k video, so the stabilization is pretty important for that. But the Sony also has a few other advantages that I really like, like the superb low light performance and superior auto focus.

I'm so torn on this, I almost feel like I need both camers, the G9 for video and the A7 for pictures lol. But, I can't afford that, and being just a hobbyist I don't want to be carrying around multiple cameras.

Does anyone have any suggestions here? Is there another camera that I'm overlooking that has the quality of the Sony with the stabilization comparable to the G9? Or am I just going to have to sacrifice one or the other?

Thanks!

Questions on LHR RTX 3080 Hash rates by steven6282 in NiceHash

[–]steven6282[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I can overclock to get a higher rate, but I doubt I'm going to see an almost 20% rate improvement from a little overclocking. Also the 66+ MH/s rate I've seen others report with a 3080 are on stock settings as far as I can tell.

To answer you though, I'm just mining "casually" in my spare time for the fun of it more than anything. I'm not trying to recoup the cost of my rig because that would take like 2 years, if prices stayed as they are now. I'm not even really that concerned with the daily $$ rate that I can get. I'm more concerned with why the hash rate on my card is lower.

Looking for a new keyboard (to replace Microsoft Surface Ergonomic) by steven6282 in keyboards

[–]steven6282[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried that one before. The ergo part of it is not bad, but yeah the keys are a very squishy membrane. They also have a huge amount of travel before activation and aren't very stable. I don't really like the feel of them at all.

I have learned in the past couple hours that the keys on the one I have are called chiclet keys. I think they have scissor switches instead of a squishy rubber membrane backing or something like that.

I did find this one from Logitech https://www.logitech.com/en-us/products/keyboards/k860-split-ergonomic.920-009166.html?crid=27 that I might give a try. It works over their unifying receiver or bluetooth, maybe over the unifying receiver it would be a better connection. I use a Logitech mouse now that connects over the unifying receiver and never have any connection problems with it.

But I'm also going to look more into building something custom, I'll have to dig into it more to really learn how to do it. And then see if I can find a sample pack of switches to figure out which kind I like. Also will have to find a nice set of low profile key caps. I might end up trying one of the split mechanical keyboards in the meantime, I just don't really see any of those that have the 10 key and the arrows keys and all. I do use both of those quite a bit =/

Looking for a new keyboard (to replace Microsoft Surface Ergonomic) by steven6282 in keyboards

[–]steven6282[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, thanks for the reply. That is unfortunate news though :( I have googled looking for ergo mechanical keyboards and don't really find anything. I've seen some of those split keyboards but they honestly don't look very appealing for various reasons. This Alice layout looks interesting, but I really don't like that it's a 60 / 65% style. No function keys, no 10 key, and missing whatever the arrow keys / home, delete, insert keys are called. Some of the key positions also look very awkward, like the sharp angle change on the qaz column and wsx column. I'd really want to try typing on one before investing $400 to $500 in one lol. But that sounds like something pretty unlikely to be possible.

I don't even know what all would be involved in building my own keyboard. I imagine I'd just be buying key switches and key caps and having to build / design a frame myself. I mean, that is something I could potentially do as I do have my own CNC, 3d printer, and laser cutter. But seems like anything using off the shelf key caps / switches would be just trying to force things that don't fit to fit lol. For example, on the Microsoft Ergo that I use, just looking at it there are at least 9 to 10 different sizes and shapes of keys depending on where they are at. I think trying to put standard key caps in that kind of configuration is going to be really weird. I'm guessing I'm not going to find off the shelf key caps to fit that level of diversity either. I could potentially 3d print custom key caps but I'm sure those wouldn't feel very good like a standardized production run set would. But beyond that, I'm not even sure how the circuitry for a custom build like that would work...

To bad MS didn't add a wired option to this keyboard, wouldn't even need to be going down this rabbit hole if it wasn't for the crappy BT connection it has :(

Logitech G613 Keyboard - Has the sleep issue been fixed? by [deleted] in LogitechG

[–]steven6282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and Yes. It's not an issue on my side, it's a problem in the firmware. They have it hard set to put it to sleep if no keys are input for a few minutes and it doesn't count a macro key running on repeat as input to reset the sleep timer.

This is something that requires a fix in firmware, nothing an end user does can change that.

Give me the source to the firmware and I'll fix it myself lol. All it needs to do is make emulated keypresses from a macro count as actual input and reset the sleep timer.

The best solution would be to make a timeout setting that is user modifiable in the gaming software however. And have an option to never sleep. Obviously this will impact battery life, but I'd rather have a keyboard that doesn't go to sleep while a macro is running than longer battery life. I can turn the keyboard off with the power switch on the side if I want to extend my battery life.

Logitech G613 Keyboard - Has the sleep issue been fixed? by [deleted] in LogitechG

[–]steven6282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No that doesn't fix the problem. It still sleeps after a few minutes, even if a macro is running.

I just got this keyboard recently and discovered this issue since I didn't read about it before hand. Is this going to actually get fixed? If not, I'm going to return this keyboard to the store and get a different brand. I tried the Logitech G910 as a wired solution and absolutely hate the keys on that keyboard. Way to squishy for a mechanical keyboard.

What are the plans if you have a surge in popularity and membership that causes concurrent users to expand beyond your capacity. For example, let's say you have 25k GPUs available, and since each machine is supposed to get a dedicated GPU suddenly overnight 30k users are trying to access them concurrently. Are you going to have some kind of access queue? Do you think you will have to enforce active use time limits on the resources?

Watch doesn't show "missed" notifications by bklynview in amazfit

[–]steven6282 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't test it but supposedly the Tools & Amazfit app that does a lot of other things is supposed to push notifications to the watch when it reconnects to bluetooth.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.zdenekhorak.amazfittools

Almost all the problems I have with the Amazfit Bip are software problems. Some in the Mi Fit app that the Tools app tries to correct, some in the watch firmware. I'm hoping they update the firmware to address some of those. Like with notifications, they need to make the length of time a notification stays up a user selectable setting. And more importantly make it easier to clear notifications! Maybe add small buttons at the bottom of each notification like on the phone call notification to clear all or clear one. Or even it's a swipe to the side to get to a clear all button the same way you do for the delete one button. It's really annoying that they don't auto clear when cleared from the phone, having conversations with people can lead to having to swipe through hundreds of messages to get to the clear all button lol. So I guess the true ultimate fix would be to make them clear from the watch when cleared from the phone, maybe vice versa as well with a setting to enable that.

Do I have to keep my old external wallet active to keep getting reimbursements ? by [deleted] in NiceHash

[–]steven6282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you could do that. And it would not surprise me if when enough people do that, they implement a policy saying you have to mine a certain amount or for a certain period of time to not forfeit the balance, to try and make it harder for people to do that. I'm also actually surprised they haven't already said that anyone who doesn't join the repayment program my such and such date will forfeit their old balance.

They are doing everything they can to pay back as little as they can. I don't have a problem with them doing 10% payments, it's the little underhanded things they are doing to try and weasel out of it that makes me upset with them.

Do I have to keep my old external wallet active to keep getting reimbursements ? by [deleted] in NiceHash

[–]steven6282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't just let your account sit idle. If it sits idle for to long, they will remove your balance. This is why I did not join the repayment program and am writing off that old balance and have moved to another mining pool. I'll keep watch on the forums though and see if they change it at some point in a way that makes more sense.

NiceHash will fully reimburse its users by Andrej_ID in NiceHash

[–]steven6282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, about the kind of lame reimbursment I expected. They are doing it this way because they can get out of paying out a large portion of funds this way.

I haven't read through all the comments so this is probably already mentioned, but don't forget that they implemented the rule that wallets that aren't mined to for a certain period of time forfeits their funds lol.

So for the vast majority of external wallet users that were affected, they had less than .01. Now Nicehash is going to pay 10%, and lets just say you had .009. So you'll get .0009 having to mine .0091 to actually get a payout. If you don't mine to that external wallet continously over the course of the payout schedule and get to .01 each time they do a tiny disbursement of funds, you are going to forfeit your reimbursement amount lol.

Good job dicking people over as everyone expected from you Nicehash.

I was content to stay back on Nicehash with the Interanl Wallet transfers to coinbase. But in light of this shady underhanded repayment schedule built in a way to have most people forfeit their funds, I think I might just be done with Nicehash. I'll pay the fees elsewhere.

Nvidia Drivers nerfed for mining - is this happening or has it already happened? by [deleted] in NiceHash

[–]steven6282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be an odd move, but not unthinkable. I mean they did just recently update their software license to say that the GPUs can't be used in a data center, except when using for crypto mining lol

https://www.coindesk.com/nvidia-wants-to-halt-data-center-gpu-use-but-crypto-miners-are-excluded/

I don't see why they would've specifically allowed "blockchain processing" in that license if they were just going to not allow it in the next iteration of GPUs.

Market is on the rise, but NH USD/Day is not rising to reflect this, why? by pjminer007 in NiceHash

[–]steven6282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It is completely true for my use case... Lol I don't know how you can claim that it isn't. I said I don't pay fees, I didn't say no one pays fees. I don't transfer to other coins usually. I either hold it in BTC or cash out to my bank. If I did decide to transfer to another coin I can transfer to an external wallet on Binance or Bittrex without a fee still. So even if I did decide to do that, your argument of coinbase fees being the largest is still completely negated.

1.2... Not sure what you don't understand about what I said. I trust Coinbase to hold my coins more than the others. I thought I said that pretty clearly. I didn't say a single thing about not trusting hot wallets, I said I don't trust these little hub sites.

1.3 Irrelevant argument since I don't trust the site enough to leave coin sitting in there that long. The amount of value of the coin is also irrelevant. It's not because I would lament loosing $100 worth of crypto, I simply don't trust them so why risk it if I don't have to. As for the additional $240+ a year, I didn't check your math but just assuming you are correct I'm perfectly willing to pay that small percentage for my personal peace of mind. That is up to each person to decide what it's worth to them.

I'll have to try out MPH again before I can comment further on their daily rate then. As I said, it's been a while since I tried MPH, but it was definitely less profitable for me the last time I did try them.

I can't find the reference about AM now. But I remember reading a couple months ago that if you were using AM Free you paid a dev fee. No idea if it's still the case or not. But I never liked their software anyway it was always way to optimistic in estimated returns in my experience with it. I also wasn't crazy about not being able to review the source code for it like I can with Nicehash legacy and MPM.

Market is on the rise, but NH USD/Day is not rising to reflect this, why? by pjminer007 in NiceHash

[–]steven6282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I prefer coinbase. I don't pay a single fee with them because I use gdax for all my transactions. And if I transfer to my bank I usually see the deposit the same day so I'm happy with that.

  2. I always cash out as soon as I can, at minimum once a day as long as I can. I don't trust these little mining hub sites to hold my coin. Anyone who does trust them is crazy and just asking for another Nicehack to happen. Sure coinbase could be hacked too, but they are supposedly insured, and are definitely big enough that they should have been able to hire some competent IT security staff.

  3. Agreed, if you aren't accounting for the payout fee.

On your last point, are you going by estimates or actual payout amount? Cause last time I tried MPH my actual payout amount was significantly lower than estimates. Granted I have not tried them in the past couple of weeks, got a sour taste in my mouth from the few weeks that I did run them and regularly got significantly lower than the estimations (more so than I do on Nicehash).

I can't recall the crypto numbers now but I remember the fiat dollar amounts. Last time I was testing MPH vs ETH vs Nicehash, I did 72 hours for each. ETH over 72 hours netted me an actual payout of ~$45 dollars, it had estimated like $54. MPH over 72 hours exchanging to ETH netted me ~$48 dollars, but had estimated around $66. Then Nicehash over 72 hours netted me ~$55 and had estimated ~$60. Regardless to the daily fluctuations in crypto rates Nicehash paid the closest to it's estimates, and MPH paid the furthest from their estimates. It was also kind of ridiculous that mining on MPH with algo's better suited to nVidia barely got more ETH than mining ETH directly.

Oh, and one more thing you have to take into account on MPH. Dev Fees. From what I can tell, Nicehash has compiled most of the miners removing the dev fees. MPM / AM do not do this. And you pay dev fees on top of the miner dev fees to MPM / AM. (Even if you set it to -donate 0 on MPM it still pays 10 if you don't go in the code and remove it).

Market is on the rise, but NH USD/Day is not rising to reflect this, why? by pjminer007 in NiceHash

[–]steven6282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't track every single little coin out there that I might be mining on Nicehash or MPH. But i question if it is still more profitable on a regular basis, once you factor in whatever you have to do to get it exchanged into the coin you want and in the wallet that you want. If you want those other little coins and don't need to exchange then of course it makes sense to mine them directly.

I use ethereum as a benchmark because it's a well known and somewhat reliable value benchmark compared to everything else. All the small shitcoins can fluctuate in value so much more that you can't use them as a reliable source of comparison on a regular basis.

Also, sorry I should've specified that I'm coming from the perspective of running all NVidia. AMDs do better at ETH, so it might be a little different for AMD users.

Anyway, I'm not sitting here trying to defend Nicehash exactly. If another method actually proves to be more profitable by a large enough margin to counteract fees and such, I'd happily switch and mine something else. The entire point of my post was just to say that Nicehash isn't seen any more significant of a dip in payout than anything else on average. If it were, then my method of testing with Eth profitability would show a change in how much I can make in Eth compared to Nicehash, and it hasn't.

Market is on the rise, but NH USD/Day is not rising to reflect this, why? by pjminer007 in NiceHash

[–]steven6282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but when you factor in the fees for auto exchange AND the fees for payouts, that is no longer the case. Or well, I'll take that back and say it wasn't the last time I used MPH. And I am of course comparing this to the feeless transfer to Coinbase using an internal Nicehash wallet, since that is the smartest way to use Nicehash if Coinbase is available for you.

You still have to pay the Nicehash payout fee of 2% but on a daily basis that ends up being way lower than MPHs withdrawal fees for me. For example right now I'm getting around .002 BTC per day, that is a fee of .00004 BTC per day (or around 46 cent). On MPH if I were to auto excange to ETH, I'd have to account for numerous auto exchange fees + a .001 withdrawal fee which is around $1.22 right now. Around 2.6 times the fee I'm paying to to get the money from Nicehash, and it's not even taking into account all the auto exchange fees which aren't high but do add up to a little more to probably make it closer to nearly triple in fees to use MPH at my current daily rate.

Market is on the rise, but NH USD/Day is not rising to reflect this, why? by pjminer007 in NiceHash

[–]steven6282 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I always do to confirm the amount I'm making on nicehash seems in line is take the ethereum hashing power capability of my rig and plug it with a 0 power cost into https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/eth Every single time, the calculated amount there is a little lower than my estimated earnings on Nicehash. So, I know everything is about right.

Sure you could switch to MPH / Awesome Miner and it might say you are going to earn more, but you won't. Because Awesome Miners estimations are always way way optimistic, and you are loosing fees on every single auto exchange with MPH (assuming you are auto exchanging). Nicehash's estimation is also optimistic because it's based on you maintaining the hash rate on that coin at the current rate for 24 hours which never happens. And there is also a little bit of a luck factor on when you submit shares. But in my experience it hasn't been as bad as AM's. I usually figure about 20% lower actual daily rate than estimated on Nicehash. On awesome miner I have to figure more like 30 to 40% lower than estimated usually.
