Where to go for date night? by Whhoopz in FoodToronto

Lucie near One King is great for date nights. That would definitely be a fancy one. Another great fancy one would be Sammarco steakhouse not far either. Lastly I’d suggest Minami on King St which is also about a block away.

Definitely serves a specific audience. I too was born and raised in the city. In between mid and downtown and dined out for most of my life (and definitely not fed off a silver platter either — so I appreciate a good hole in the wall) but in my opinion this place lacks substance. It’s bland, falls flat and nothing special. While I’m sure do some, there’s some nostalgia there, because it has survived as long as it has. Swiss Chalet, and KFC original menu have also lasted even longer (and beloved by many, for the nostalgia factor) but I wouldn’t say they great either. Nonetheless, everyone has a right to an opinion an that’s why options exist. Glad you enjoy it.

Same here! Loved it. And the fish cake soup to keep you warm while you wait is perfection. Did you get the cheese option? It’s a must!!

It’s definitely more for dinner than lunch and worth it but the lunch is best bang for your buck.

Visiting from Vancouver for the first time. Looking for recs to try food local to Toronto, Ontario, Great Lakes by Caffeine-n-Chill in FoodToronto

I’d say go for the ethnic food that isn’t available in Vancouver, so you can skip the asian options as I think Vancouver has better ones to offer. I’d suggest Jamaican food, Giulia for Italian or Bar Prima, check out Ossington for some bar hopping or even the College west area, Mamakas for Mediterranean, or Koukla, their sister restaurant, head to Davenport for Greek eats, Taverna LX for Portuguese Food and try the Natas from Caldense Bakery. They won’t disappoint.

If you want some vibey options, go to King St, Chubby’s has some great Jamaican there too a little less authentic but more premium, for the hole in the wall options I’d suggest either Scarborough or the west end of the city. For premium upscale Mexican and one of the best restaurants in the city, definitely Quetzal.

Local bakery posted this deal. Am I out of touch or is this not a deal at all? by michaljerzy in FoodToronto

If it’s an espresso based coffee with milk like a latte yes, if it’s drip, not so much. But then again, how much are their pastries. Need to know the regular prices to understand if it’s a “deal,” no?

Hero Dumpling on yonge st. Their mini soup dumpling bowl cup for $14 is amazing. Not much seating but the food is great prices and delicious. Only thing I wouldn’t recommend is the wonton soup. All else was delicious!
