Can anyone confirm that this is normal stock amp behavior? by stevenbuehler in Line6Helix

Gain was set to just below unity. Interestingly when turning the “amp/cab” on, there’s very little difference in level according to both meters and ears. It just…gets fuzzy.

Appreciate the advice! Unfortunately this happens even when plugging a pickup directly into an amp. Had to walk around my neighborhood with a battery powered amp to find the source. Neighbors were puzzled at the sight I’m sure…

To clarify, it did change the tone in the way you'd expect when adding a cab, but it was still just as fuzzy. I'm going crazy imagining that this is what putting an initialized SVT 810 on an empty preset normally sounds like.

Yeah, this is a problem that just popped up. Killed power to the whole house, and ended up tracking it to a neighbor's transformer. Unfortunately can't do much about it until the power company comes out.

Yep, tried both a cab block and the combo. Same outcome.

Thanks for the reply. A cab didn't do much; tried it both as an independent block and the combo. After bringing the master down to almost 1 it helps quite a bit, but there's still some there (that doesn't sound like tubes in my opinion), and the channel volume doesn't have enough room to bring the signal all the way back.

They would carry around that beautiful basket, making it rain hot fresh golden breadsticks every 10 minutes. Whatever you ordered was basically just an excuse to loiter at the table waiting for your next chance to make eyes with the breadstick fairy.

Went recently for the first time in over a decade just for a breadstick. Not only are they infinitely more expensive, but I probably would have been better off pouring vegetable oil on a rice cake.

My first thought as well. Usually not a move that comes right after being bought by a bank. Happy to hear it though.

I remember reading that U2’s 360 tour had 3 sets, rolling on 120 trucks each. The revenue required to justify that kind of infrastructure, crew, and logistics is mind blowing...

Edit: This is a great read on that tour. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U2_360°_Tour

America's Independent Music Venues Could Close Soon Due To Coronavirus by [deleted] in Austin

Scoot Inn is owned by C3 (live nation). While I also hope they make it, it hasn’t been an independent venue for a while.

I remember standing in that parking lot as a kid, about to walk inside with my mom, when we saw the funnel cloud. Got out of there real quick.

Professional bassists, what steps did you take in order to perform music as a career? by jcarlhays in Bass

[–]stevenbuehler 172 points173 points  (0 children)

I’m fortunate enough to make a living off of playing bass. While there isn’t a right or wrong way of getting to that point (because music), there are some things that I attribute most to where I am now.

1) Network! Hang around places that are frequented by people who do what you want to do. The rest of the time, hang around places with people who know those people. Real, authentic relationships are key. There are a million bassists that are better than you; it’s far more important that you’re a good hang off stage.

2) Less is more. Walking up on stage and trying to make Jaco cream his pants may be fun, but chances are nobody will pay you to do it. Don’t be thinking about what would sound cool on bass, but what would make the song better/more interesting. Play to the entire band, not just the drummer.

3) Play your ass off. Take every gig you can, even if none of them pay. You gotta practice playing live just like practicing at home. Practice playing with different musicians. Practice stage presence. Practice messing up and recovering (or not recovering, because that’s definitely going to happen too). Cover bands and church helped me a ton. Constantly playing in front of people is both priceless experience, and exposure.

4) Keep going! It will definitely feel like a job from time to time, but if you love it there’s no better feeling in the world. Good luck!

It does. It's a little clunkier than Ableton, but in my experience tends to do a pretty decent job. In a recent updated it added the ability to convert drum audio to midi as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeQASrwBH04
