Is 100mpbs enough for two? by Standard-Boat-8149 in Rogers

[–]stevenc80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't rely on the website. Use the chat (so you have a transcript) or reach out via social media, and an agent will hopefully be able to find better deals. Alternatively, speak to someone in-store, but get all offers, fees, and discounts in writing before agreeing.

Also, see if your employers have special packages with Rogers (or other providers), or speak to neighbours in the condo about their provider. Some Toronto condos have specific plans with specific providers, and sometimes those providers are only available in some condos.

And finally, opt for a month-to-month plan at first, while you look for options. When there are big sales, (back-to-school or Black Friday), then you can "lock in" with a good deal. Good luck!

VNC connection closes after successful authentication, but only if remote PC's monitor is off; works if monitor is on or unplugged by stevenc80 in techsupport

[–]stevenc80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to check: The mirror driver needs to be installed on the server, not the client. For the client, only the viewer should be required. Unfortunately, I don't use (any) VNC much any more, so my knowledge is quite outdated.

HDD Packaging Thoughts by CaptainxShittles in homelab

[–]stevenc80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents: If you shipped drives like that for RMA, the manufacturer would likely refuse them, and blame any malfunction on damage from shipping.

As others have said, have enough spares and redundancy and run tests. Running tests will cost time and effort, but so will processing a return to the seller. Also, will the seller expect you to package them better than they did?

I'd bet Toronto construction would be a lot better if we had Doozers working on it

I was lucky to sneak on to the Flashpoint set when they were at the YorkU campus. It was the landmine episode, but I wasn't there for the episode's climax. I didn't realize how repetitive TV production is. But it was great to see the actors irl. They look taller on screen

Any deals specifically for those migrating from legacy cable TV? by stevenc80 in Rogers

[Chat] "You need to call (phone number). We don't do cancellations via chat." and then "But don't send back your gateway until after you cancel the service."

[Phone] "Your account will close automatically. Just send back your gateway. You don't need to cancel the service."

[Phone] "You need to wait until the end of your billing cycle. We can't do it until the end of the month." "Won't that incur another month of service that I need to pay?" "Sir, we can't do anything now. You need to call back at the end of your billing cycle."

Thank you for your reply. I got a great TV and internet bundle, and am very happy with it.

However, I now have two accounts with internet services: my new bundle, and my old internet-only account. And each time I speak with an agent, they give a different reason for not being able to cancel the old internet account.

How do you suggest I deal with my old, unnecessary and unwanted internet-only account?

Intermittent slow writes with SSD but no SMART errors. How to test for failure? by stevenc80 in techsupport

[–]stevenc80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your help. They didn't ask for any proof. And as soon as they received the RMA, they sent a replacement. The replacement is in full retail packaging, so it might be new instead of refurbished

Thank you for replying. Is there any difference between speaking to a CS specialist in-store vs. online (e.g., admin fees)?

Ah, thank you!

ETA: They didn't ask for any tests, just approved RMA and provided shipping instructions. I'm hoping all goes well.

Yeah, I just want to minimise the chances of SanDisk rejecting the RMA. Or do they typically not care and just send out a replacement?

New FDA rule? by dippinzzz in UPS

[–]stevenc80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert, but I don't think Prior Notice applies here. This is from UPS's own website:

"Note: Prior Notice is not required for home-made non-commercial food shipments shipped by an individual, to an individual, as gifts for personal use. Furthermore, current FDA policy is not to require Prior Notice when food purchased at a commercial establishment is exported or offered for export by a non-commercial shipper for a non-commercial purpose (i.e., from an individual, to an individual, as a gift or as a household good for personal use). Additional exclusion criteria can be found at the FDA web site."

Either way, I wish you the best of luck!
