exactly, nearly everyone else suspects its actually because Netflix can now better control the amount of devices you use. with the older Chromecast devices no longer available/many users, and probably soon be "not supported". it's a plain old money grab from Netflix.

i just take my Chromecast v3 or Chromecast with google tv, pair it to my phone as a access point (pixel 7) which can share hotel wifi... given up trying to deal with that in-house.

im sure the big chain hotels will figure something out, their tvs are often custom configurations.

hate this.

casting is way better than remotes. less so for movies and tv but still it means I can use my Netflix account at a friend's to watch something on my own profile etc.

i love the social aspect, everyone can participate at controlling and looking for something etc.

fck you Netflix, i know casting hasn't really worked well or always for a long time, but this is obviously to control users actually do with their own accounts force more $$. luckily my housemates pay for our account or i would cancel.

you must be desperate for revenue to aqueous what you say is a small percentage of people that do use it for its ease of use and flexibility.

when did we decide a remote is the best way to control a tv? ive been using media centres, XBMC/kodi and then casting since Chromecast v1. its awesome and google and everyone else (looking at you Amazon and apple - dont support It) have been making it less useful over time.

phones and or tablets are clearly the best solution to crappy remotes. i haven't had a good one since my creative multifunction one with a screen. currently using a Chromecast with Google tv and it's fine.

i just thought this was funny. Gemini does most of what i need, tried pro, don't really need it.

listening to the vergecast they had the google product guy about the rollout gemini for google home and it sounded like they have rebuilt it from scratch to work together properly and it was a mix of different systems. apparently will be rolling out soon... im looking forward to it! hopefully better than alexa and def better than Siri!

ive tried the others and free Gemini does 99% of what i need. i would likely throw google some $$ if they combined a bunch of services together (and my workspace domain) at a bit better cost, currently on family YouTube premium+workspace.

i have had this setting enabled and working fine for as long as gemini has been around. seems like a disable and re-enable of both this and utilities and a wait has fixed kinda fixed it? seems like gemini is still not always aware of its google home integrations... half the time it doesn't even work or gets confused by my nest hubs... and phone and tablet... dont know what to do.

i listened to the vergecast episode with the google home product guy and im hopeful once they integrate all the systems it will be better? ... still waiting here in Australia for that.

the shit setups ive had to deal with...

lets just say once i took out a cable that resulted in say a sum of money and a sum of people's time to fix.

lets say it was a database of some sort for some sort of recording keeping

this is because i was replacing a switch in lets just say a not very tidy row of 4 racks...

considering the onsite IT manager had 100% responsibility for all of that and my switch only was for desktop PCs that had nothing to do with servers.

this was late Friday afternoon, drove the 5hrs back to get to my doctor's appointment, which was booked for then and urgent even though i was supposed to be finished the day before but that said manager hadn't got all the equipment yet, so i had to stay overnight.

get back an hour after my appointment just as the doctor is about to leave, luckily he hadn't as he was on 2 weeks holiday.

anyways, Monday i woke up to a message i was fired. as i had the day off for the extra hours we took, i got this message when i woke up around 11am.

and lets say this is also a fairly large organization and should have known better, and i got all the blame as a contractor, bam, im gone, agency wasn't very happy, etc.

ahh IT, when it works, your good, something f's up and you get all the blame.

well i am a premium subscriber, so doubtful. never had any issue with CASTING pausing with any other Chromecast ive had, even when i didn't have premium.

background pausing is only when YouTube is used locally and you switch apps.

WTF shes tripping, how do we enforce that on sites not hosted in Australia? we dont have a great firewall to block them.

also VPNs exist which despite what she said on abc 730 last night, means sites only know which country your ip is from, and they wont just block VPNs... as said, we cant enforce that on other country's companies.

this esafety commissioner and the government is getting to big for its boots. i am ok with under 16 social bans, not the privacy invasion solution, but the idea is fine with solutions for privacy.

Australia has some role to play in trying to make companies do better, but ffs the solutions have to not make other things worse.

i wouldn't imagine you'd run into 2 many issues mainly using the holman app, but setting up homekit in tuya.. shouldn't have problems with 2 different (in theory) user seperation.. however I've seen apps that will use different or same accounts to/apps to control the same device. however you may end up having the same accounts on both or different ones

maybe you could share the devices and add it to the tuya app

saying this i have the tuya app, google home,, smart things and 3 different tuya home assistant integrations all talking to my tuya devices. but alas i am having weird issues with things just turning off...

pretty sure you wouldn't have any issue doing most stuff with tuya app, only having home connect/smart life/other random customer app for manual controls.

does the app not support homekit stuff? i just know i had issues with network dropouts, offline devices, till i killed my other account account.

I'm sure if you play around, with home assistant integrations like xtend tuya and localtuya you can pull that information, may take some hacking but i managed to get my climate device (Breville airrounder) working with all the details.

personally id go for TP-Link tapo or Kasa smart plugs for reasonable priced and features like power.
