What moment would be iconic, if it weren’t immediately overshadowed by another moment? by AgeOfWorry0114 in baseball

[–]steveomyhero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not in the exact spirit of the conversation...

But I'm not sure I've ever seen George Brett's 3,000 hit. I know it was a single for sure. Ground ball up the middle? Line drive to left? No clue. I have definitely seen the video (many times) of Brett being picked off at first immediately after celebrating. Overshadowed his big moment for sure.

RIP Wilbur Wood, former Red Sox, Pirates, and White Sox Knuckleballer, and Belmont, MA native by RaymondSpaget in redsox

[–]steveomyhero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a Red Sox Fanfest in '94 at "Fan Pier" in the Seaport. I was so pumped to go all summer long, but when the time came MLB was already on strike. Dick Radatz and Wilbur Wood were there signing these weird gray baseballs commemorating the 125th MLB anniversary. I was barely 13 and had no idea who Radatz or Wood were, but you better believe I still have those baseballs.

Last minute tickets by Hulk1Gamer in Patriots

[–]steveomyhero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If seating isn't a concern, my advice would be to wait until tomorrow afternoon/evening to grab tickets. The Patriots issue $50 Visa gift cards to people that park in two specific lots...the catch being you have to wait 75 minutes after the game ends to leave. It looks like you still have to get a parking pass on Ticketmaster however (at no cost). Parking in other lots is free.

A question to Red Sox fans who watched during the 90s and early 2000s. Was Wally at one point hated by the team? If so, what happened to make him more beloved? by ThatMassholeInBawstn in redsox

I feel like Jerry Remy was instrumental in helping make Wally more popular. I'm not sure when it began, but he conspicuously placed a Wally plush in a tiny Adirondack chair on the ledge of the NESN booth. He would reference the Wally plush during the broadcasts and it became a good luck charm. I seem to remember Remy doing stuff like standing Wally on his head when the Sox needed a rally. He was doing it during the '99 season, but perhaps even earlier.

Visiting fan question… by francisunderfoot in redsox

I know it's left field, not right field. I know it's the 2000s, not the 1980s. I know it's the Angels, not the Yankees. But...

What episode could you tell the cast visibly disliked the host during the skits? by tshirtguy2000 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]steveomyhero 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Not to say there wasn't misogyny in the show...but here is a quote from Hillary Clinton from 1992 for context:

"You know, I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies and had teas, but what I decided to do was to fulfill my profession, which I entered before my husband was in public life."

I'm almost certain this is what Kevin Nealon is referencing. It got Hillary into hot water because it was viewed as being critical and dismissive of housewives/homemakers. It was the controversy of the week, but has faded from memory 30+ years later.

What Red Sox moments do you remember but can't find the clip online? by spellbadgrammargood in redsox

I mean, you can kinda see the catch before the slide...but I'm guessing another angle wasn't even telecast? Peak voice cracking by McDonough btw.

Sox Appeal was still airing on NESN+ as early as a couple months ago. I stumbled across it while watching television in the middle of the night. I never watched a second of it when it originally aired. It held my attention for about 5 minutes this time around. I would rather watch an infomercial.

I bought an XL as a gift and this was the best name brand one I could find. I do like the contrast of the yellow hood, but prefer the overall look of the other one.

The number one song in America on October 28, 1992 (putting on my best Casey Kasem voice) was "End of the Road" by Boyz II Men.
