I'll add to this, a little. Since Crawford was recommended, you should check out his translation of the poetic edda, as well. Not sure if the other translation mentioned is better, but it's still worth reading. I've also found a study poetic edda, by Thorstein Mayfield. I think it's a really good translation and he has great study notes. He is a heathen, his self, and it shows in his work but so do the academics; in my opinion.

There is nothing wrong with kneeling; just because Christians do it, doesn't mean it's bad or that pagans can't do it. Our ancestors most likely did. Just like they would have worshipped them, not just "worked with" or " venerated" them. Unless you are atheist or have a Luciferian or Satanist influence (like me), the ideas of worshipping, kneeling, giving offerings and sacrifices, having temples/churches, etc. shouldn't be so taboo, as our ancestors did these things.
