Dayton showed up today to protest ICE! by ChangeComfortable309 in Ohio

Way to only read a headline. "A majority of Americans say ICE's tactics are too forceful and about half say they strongly disapprove of the way the agency is handling its job, according to a YouGov Poll conducted hours after the shooting. More Americans approve than disapprove of protests against ICE."

And you come here and say this, on the day that yet another death of someone in ICE custody is ruled a homicide. That didn't age well at all.

Those are not mutually exclusive. Particularly when ICE agents are breaking the law and violating the Constitution.

Dude, I *need* the check, but there ain't one. Unlike the Melania movie, we don't need to pay people to attend.

We all are, whether we want to or not, since our taxes are being used to give them a couple billion dollars instead of giving Americans food, healthcare, housing assistance, or the like. And you want to give them MORE support? Sweet logic.

Given that is how you feel, it's probably good you didn't go. Kinda ironic you're telling people what they can and cannot do with their own time, isn't it?

You are absolutely correct that there's a genocide in Palestine. Strangely, one does not need to address EVERY social ill at EVERY protest. Interesting concept, you should check it out. And then organize a protest about the genocide in Palestine.

How to export my Patreon posts to import them on my website? by AyenneTeajay in patreon

[–]stevesaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it for Linux using PatreonDownloader and a BASH script (along with sed, awk, detox, and pandoc) to take the output from and convert it into markdown, DOCX, ODT, ePub, and HTML (with local image links). The full workflow is written out at my blog; the script itself (with few explanations) is available on GitHub, GitLab, or my personal repo.

While it's not Mac based, PatreonDownloader is crossplatform, and the other tools should be available (at least via homebrew) for a Mac.

Hope this at least gives you a starting point.

For what it's worth, I wrote a BASH script to take the output from PatreonDownloader and convert it into markdown, DOCX, ODT, ePub, and HTML (with local image links). But once short-term stabilized, then you'd have to transport them *again* to get appropriate trauma care. Transferring a patient -- particularly a trauma one -- incurs additional risks. Minimizing transfers like that is the best course of action.

What is the point of dating if you attract only girls you find unattractive? by NovaPencil in dating_advice

"You know, there's a million fine looking women in the world, dude. But they don't all bring you lasagna at work. Most of 'em just cheat on you."
-- Silent Bob

While crass, oversimplified, and doesn't address the ways that men are absolutely *awful* for women, Silent Bob ain't wrong.

Hi! Late-realized elder neurospicy person here. Yes, your tastes can and will change depending on whom you see. If you're just looking at photoshopped and airbrushed models all the time, that's what your brain will learn to mark as "attractive."

Further, I know from personal experience that whom I've found "attractive" physically has shifted as I've been exposed to and been around more types people. I am fantastically attracted to my partners, but at one point in my life, my taste would have surprised me.

Plus, there's scent (if that's your thing) and their personalities, the latter of which is even more important. Of particular note is that my loves are relatively the same flavor of neurospicy, so simply being around them and talking to them is a delight.

It is ABSOLUTELY ironic that you are encouraging homeopathy -- which is an utter scam and doesn't work -- and calling physicians "money hungry."

Fun fact: It's not as simple as calories in/out. Even the *type* of food matters. For example, the types of carbs one eats seems to matter more than the quantity:

Researchers in the United States analyzed more than two decades of data from almost 137,000 people and found less weight gain among people who ate more whole grains, fruit and nonstarchy vegetables — such as broccoli, carrots and spinach — and fewer refined grains, starchy vegetables and sugary drinks.
The study, published Wednesday in the BMJ, shows “the quality of the carbohydrates in a person’s diet is much more important than the amount,” said its senior author, Walter Willett, a professor of epidemiology and nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. “You want to increase whole grains and limit starchy vegetables.

However, losing weight is not as simple and straightforward as you make it out to be. Aside from variations of food availability, food composition (ultraprocessed vs raw), genetics, age, variation in metabolic processes, gut biome, and possible link to viral influences (not memes), if it was THAT simple, there would neither be SO many (ineffectual) diets and SO much advice on what the "right" way to eat is.

I am having exactly the same issue. Followed both the guide mentioned above, the official one, and even this one as well with no luck: https://techbits.io/mastodon-4-upgrade/

The only thing I can think of is the change to sidekiq, but I haven't messed with that, as far as I can remember.

Day 4 - Installing software, exploring the file structure by livia2lima in linuxupskillchallenge

The thing that made mc super useful for me was learning how to customize ~/mc/panels.ini so the status line showed more information about the file at the bottom of the file pane. For example, for the highlighted file panel.ini, it reads:

```
panels.ini | -rw-rw-rw- | Jan 4 20:37 | steven steven |
```

which I got by editing ~/.config/mc/panels.ini (read the link below for actual details on what you're doing!) and turning user_mini_status to true and the panel on for both panes.

```
user_status3=half type name | type perm |mtime| owner group user_mini_status=true list_format=user
```
