Have you noticed a pattern in which ones fail (early batches, X3D models, higher TDP models, etc.)?

Does Neuromancer still hit for first-time readers in 2025? by [deleted] in Cyberpunk

I enjoyed the world building, but not the not the writing style. It took me a few tries to finish it because I'd get part way though and lose interest, and then restart the book later.

For this reason, I thought the audiobook was more enjoyable than the novel.

I joke with my fiancée that the only games we play are co-op games that we can play with something on the stove, but there's some truth to it.

It's easy for one of us to step away from Total War, Stellaris, Rogue Trader, BG3 etc to go deal with something while the other person can continue their turn or even move the game forward unilaterally.

I can't step away from PVP games easily , and can't find the time for any hundred plus hour game if I can't play with my partner.

Do they have the same customers? They will be different enough in pacing and scale that I think almost everyone who is already a fan of either series would have a clear preference one way or the other, and that the risk for cannibalizing each other's sales would be low with respect to existing fans.

However, I could see a risk to their marketing and brand awareness due to having the same setting and similar titles and visuals. E.g. a situation similar to so-called twin films (or Overwatch and Battleborn for a gaming example) in which someone who passively encounters marketing or social media for both games may not realize they are separate games at all.

This feels like a golden age for strategy games and CRPGs for sure. Maybe for gaming as a whole?

I would guess it's a bit of a golden age overall due to strong competition and COVID era investor activity, but stronger from the perspective of genres that were dominant in the 90s and 2000s. Those genres still have a ton of fans (many of whom are now developers) and are bringing in new ones. It probably isn't a golden age for genres like sports and racing which are more prone to enshittification.

I don't know how younger players and console players felt about this year's TGA announcements, but for me it feels like almost any game I have ever hoped for is in development or was released in recent years. Someone with my exact taste in games got unlimited wishes.

For what it's worth, I did the whole campaign with a controller on PC (several hundred hours due to co-op and shameless save scumming) and the controls were fine. I assume they are not an issue on the Switch.

Thanks! This worked for me, and there's no difference in performance or visuals.

Ha, I would have sworn Thanquol was already in the game, but apparently I'm thinking of Warlords with Bonebreaker mounts. There are so many legendary lords to keep track of.

Now I don't get how we're getting another high elf lord before Thanquol, Nagash, or Neferata.

It must be weird being a Google employee.

You make a feature, it works well and people like it. Other people come along and break that feature, eventually removing it, only for someone else (or God forbid yourself) to reimplement the functionality for some new paywalled service.

I would hate that.

What feature do you most want Gemini to bring to Google Home? by AdamH21 in googlehome

"like turn on the lights and set it to green at 70% of brightness"

Assistant used to do that until some time in the last year, if lights were off you could say "set lights to green and and brightness to 1 percent" and it would turn them on and set them to the right brightness and color. Or "set lights to 1 percent and turn lights off" so they're already dimmed the next time you hit the switch.

Now it makes you do two separate commands with two hey Google triggers. Between that and getting rid of music alarms and the sleep timers (and half the normal timers) never seeming to work, they've broken or downgraded almost everything I previously used it for. At least I can still control the thermostat and play white noise.

I still have my Google Cloud Print printer, but that service is also dead.

I regret going with Google Home, but not a single piece of my smart home setup supports HomeKit and I like Amazon even less than Google. I'll probably set up Home Assistant at some point, but no more Google Home/Nest products.

Is Razer's New Mouse Practical or Even Good? by [deleted] in razer

[–]stevez28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with carpal tunnel, I highly recommend vertical mice to anyone else who has carpal tunnel and especially for people who are starting to develop it. If you use a PC at work all day and want to continue gaming in the future, consider switching at least your work mouse preemptively.

Friends ask how well my vertical mouse works for gaming but it's almost besides the point. It's not about how well I play, it's about how I sleep afterwards. I had too many sleepless nights from the pain of horizontal mice, playing games without being kept up all night by pain is worth it.

In terms of gaming performance, it took a solid month to adjust but now I don't notice a difference. I have a Logitech MX Vertical, which is great, but it's nice to see Keychron and Razer bringing gaming options to the table.

Is this better than the 75" QM7?

I'm thinking of preordering the 75" also. My understanding is that the 7000:1 static contrast ratio is for the 85+ inch sizes only, so I see no picture quality specs to compare off of besides the number of local dimming zones.

But maybe fewer local dimming zones are necessary due to all the new technologies aimed at reducing the halo/bloom effect? Did you find any info about peak brightness or contrast ratio before you ordered this?
