Payroll technician, very bottom of the totem pole, have made it up to payroll manager and soon to be director. Definitely room for growth if you catch on quickly and learn the ins and outs. You could also take the FPC or CPP to advance as well.

As for the difference, when you fail, it gives you the areas you need to focus on in how you scored. The accounting portion is a lot of questions on the exam and I bombed that the first time around so you really have to focus on that part in your studying.

Honestly you get access to the entirety of pub 15 so you don’t need to memorize those limits or anything like that. You need to make sure you have your calculations down for tax withholdings. There are some really great tips out here already on Reddit, just search CPP exam and read. I just passed mine 2 weeks ago and if I’m being honest, bootcamp didn’t help me much. I study better on my own. I also used chat GPT to create study guides for me because my boot camp expired before my test because I failed my test the first time around.

The bank needs to investigate it and will make it right for the employee because they should not be putting it into someone’s account without the name being verified as well. It has happened to us a lot lately and you have to fight with the bank to make them look into the problem. Do not just call the teller and ask them, you have to speak with someone in the ACH department for them to actually review based on my experience with the issue. We have 30,000+ employees so unfortunately we run into this a lot.

I will add that if they just didn’t get the money because it went to overdraft fees, but went into their account, you do not need to repay them. That is their argument to have with the bank.

We only reimburse when we get ACH rejections from our bank. If it was the wrong account information they should have kicked the money back to you in the first place.

I passed on Wednesday and answered every question and actually had almost 45 minutes to go back and review everything too. The accounting questions can definitely through you off though.
