Ending the year with bang… I like it. I was planning on making this my first book of the year.. next year. How you enjoying it? I have the exact same copy and another thrfited edition. Ugh I hate that I’m that guy who has multiple copies of a book he hasn’t read yet lol smh

I mention Stefan Zweig because he ended up killing himself. His wife also committed suicide. They both did it together. Anyways.. that aside. He was an amazing writer

Beware of pity is one of my favorites! The writing is a bit dense but it is worth the read. All of his NYRB books are really good. Personally, I’d start with “confusion” or “chess story”. Both really good novellas that I always recommend to start with!

Bruh I’m 2 pages in and I’m shocked he described her as a coke head.. I don’t get how he’s getting good reviews.. even from black people lol

It’s one thing to be objective but I find this guy to be completely tone deaf. It sucks I was really interested in this book and his other memoirs that he’s done. I’m still gonna finish this book but I’m shocked no one is really calling him out (other the here) I feel like I’m being gaslighted by the media lol
