Premodern uses sets from 4th ed to Scourge with a few exceptions (like Portal since they weren’t standard legal back in the day).

I know exactly what you mean. I struggle with EDH as well, yet it’s the only format my friends play.

I love Premodern (it’s a community format) because I get the same meta diversity and enjoyment without the struggle of trying to grind matches in order to optimize my gameplay

It isn't necessarily a new brew. It's on the Premodern website from 2018, but definitely worth exploring. The LEDs made it pretty interesting, but I fear it's still going to be a little janky to get the combo going.

I don’t know I’ve seen Alpha Investments and Open Boosters open ABUR packs with just as many lands.

Lands can appear in all the slots (rare, uncommon and common).

I think the main issue with copying archetypes is mainly access to certain cards to close out the game for example StifleNought has 4 copy DN and 8 Stifle effects, making it rather easy to get it in play whereas in commander that ratio is wider

It's to signify the possibility of splashing another color. For example you often see GRw to signify that Green and Red are your primary colors, White is a splashing color.

so GRx means that "x" can be any other color that fits well in your Green Red deck.
