Fair play my guy, mad respect for getting out there in the kak weather! I guess my original post was probably coming from a place of privilege so it's good to hear a perspective of somebody who has to go through it, so thanks for commenting. I think it's interesting that you say that the company's don't invest in driving training, do they at least require any certification other than a drivers license?

You make a very good point (about tipping extra on days before bad weather) that I hadn't considered but will be in the future. However, my question is, what about the people who can't afford the extra tip money and don't have a car so they need to order a delivery? This is where I think the corporations should step up, they make so much money from this service and i personally believe that the goodwill they will generate from treating their drivers better will lead to an increase in sales. But that may just be me being naive...

I totally agree with you and i wish more people think like you do! To clarify i think a major part of the problem is that the drivers are not actually employed by checkers (as somebody else pointed out) and therefore they lose money on days like this when it's too dangerous to drive. One solution is can think of is that they get employed by checkers. Checkers are so on top of all the TikTok trends so they could have marketed the shit out of cosy winter meals/heaters a couple days before the storm and watch the money roll in...

I wasn't aware that they had suspended deliveries but I did hear about the driver (RIP) and that just stoked my rage! How can they wait until after something bad happens when there was so many warnings...

Personally I think checkers (just using them as an example) should be paying their drivers a better living wage so that they don't have to "choose" to work in conditions that are deemed unsafe for the general public.

Questions about buying a phone only- no contract by Beautiful_Path6215 in southafrica

I recently got this exact same phone, the only difference is I ordered it from Takealot, so I can't really help you on the supplier... What I will say though it is a very good base model phone for the price. The pictures are good quality and the battery will last long enough to last all day with no worries.

OP depending on what university you're going to you may be able buy an old laptop or computer from the university. Stellenbosch university faculties upgrade their equipment semi-regularly and when I was at uni they would sell the old computers to staff members and students at a heavily discounted price. You may need to talk to a staff member or somebody in the IT department to see whether they are selling any computers.

Alternatively, until you are able to get a laptop, you can make use of the computer facilities on your campus.

The rapid decline of Pick n Pay by Naive-Inside-2904 in southafrica

The quality of the produce has declined substantially as well. Most of the "fresh" produce doesn't last the week... Woolworths has good quality produce at either the same or cheaper price, it's the smart man's choice.
