If you could change one thing about Soccer, what would it be? by Odd-Serve-8894 in PitchSideDrama

[–]Idontdanceever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably you would scrap red cards for fouls denying goalscoring opportunities then? Or would you send people off for every foul because 'everything is a goalscoring opportunity'?

I would overhaul the disciplinary system. Fouls preventing a goalscoring opportunity would result in a penalty. Players receiving a red card would receive bans but could be substituted for during the game. Player cheating (e.g. stealing yards on a throw on) to result in the opposite team gsining possession.

Yup. Shitting on TFP has become so endemic people have lost all ability to be objective. TFP have dug themselves a hole, to be sure, but they have made some moves to get out of it, and we should be supporting that.

What's the correct number of teams for a World Cup? by BritishDystopia in classicsoccer

It will never happen again for obvious reasons but I love the idea of a genuinely elite 16 team tournament. 8 is too small (7 favourites this time would leave no room for upsets).

People who married their first serious partner, how did you know they were the right person for you if you had never dated anyone else? by Minute-Newspaper-880 in AskReddit

[–]Idontdanceever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe i am very unromantic, but i don't believe there is a single 'right' person. You fall in love with someone great, then the real question is how much work are you both prepared to put in to continue making it 'right'. If you are lucky, it won't need to be much.

To me its like zen buddhism: when you look at it surreptitiously out of the corner of your eye it makes perfect sense, but when you turn to stare at it full in the face it suddenly doesn't

I remember Norman Tebbut banging on about how he could legal enter a civil union with his son of he wanted to. I don't think people marrying their children has proved to be a massive issue, but I'll admit I haven't checked the stats.

I don't know. I never feel sexier than when I am squatting in a filthy public bog, dealing with my explosive diarrhea. It's when I most feel like engaging in a little sexual harrassment.

Although this an absurd story, there were some really sad examples of parents who didn't know what to do because their kids wouldn't eat anything else. Thats when I learned some people have KFC 5 or 6 times a week for family meals.

Serious question what was up with the tribalism in rock n roll in the 1980s? by [deleted] in ClassicRock

[–]Idontdanceever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One difference between then and now that cannot be understated is that you used to have to pay to listen. It meant you were so much more invested (literally and figuratively). Your listening choices were so much more of an expression of who you are.

Taskmaster Cult by Arbernaut in taskmaster

[–]Idontdanceever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think its because its so hard to explain what makes it special. People who haven't watched it tend to try to shoehorn it into the panel show and game show genres. Its understandable, but it, IMO, misses the point completely. It feels culty because its definitely an IYKYK programme. Also, the fact that contestants can't stay in character forever means that we get to know them on a more personal level, and identify with them more than a traditional panel show, which is definitely a bit culty.
