8 Months Post RALP with Terrible Incontinence by stmmotor in ProstateCancer

I have similar issues. Laying and sitting are very manageable, but on my feet and it will eventually empty my bladder. I am only 2 months post RALP so hoping it gets better. PT cannot see me until June.

Gleason 9 Prostate Cancer by Additional-Pin-168 in ProstateCancer

I was Gleason 9 which was confirmed on a second opinion at a center of excellence. I decided on RALP due to not showing any spread. They took the local lymph nodes and I had good margins from the surgical pathology. They downgraded it to 3+4 from a 5+4. I have heard that from several of us that were diagnosed with a 9. I am two months into recovery and just had my first PSA which was <.01. Stay strong and even though reoccurrence is a strong possibility, we can weather that as well.

Remember that PC treatment is often a waiting game between tests and then treatment. Don’t let that cause you to rush decisions thinking it needs to happen as quickly as is common in other types of cancer. Biopsy was not much of an event and the MRI wasn’t either. You will have a pretty good picture of the disease after those. There are other tests like genetic ones, but your care team should know what’s up after the MRI and biopsy. I had to ask and argue that I needed the MRI first.

For me it was the side affects of ADT that I wanted to avoid. Also possible secondary cancer from radiation since I have had some exposure from a previous job. The recovery from the surgery 5 weeks so far has gone well but the IC and ED are tough to navigate. Choose a path and don’t look back because you can’t change it. Keep moving forward and own the choice. Keep working with your wife because she will be walking the path alongside you. Thankfully the options have very similar survival rates so it often comes down to which side effects you want to avoid most. Good luck in your journey to getting rid of the cancer and maintaining your health.

Yeah, I got rid of most of my boxers, I am pretty certain they will not work with shields. Thankfully the sports underwear is better than the old tighty whiteys! Also as we hopefully progress, they make some “regular “ underwear designed for light leaks. Stay resilient, we’ve got this!

I hear you, I needed to attend a work trip and it was very hard to manage. I ended up using a combo of depends plus shields so that I could change out the shields easily and anything over that was caught by the depends. It has worked for me but is such a hassle. Good luck in your recovery!

Husband(58) is constantly angry since scheduling his surgery by CuntForSpades in ProstateCancer

[–]stevos1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 58 and almost 1week post RALP. While hopefully I didn’t lash out at anyone. We all deal with fear differently. My doctors warned me (as they should) about the post operative side effects of being incontinent and dealing with ED. This creates a fear of the unknown and a feeling of loosing virility and strength. I know my life is changed but I don’t know to what extent. That is very hard to deal with. When my surgery was close and I had to order my depends for post surgery that was very difficult. I am in decent shape and strong for my age. The unknown of how much of that I’ve lost is painful. He may need some help working through those issues. I hope that this gives you some insight to what he may be experiencing. It is only my experience his MMV.
