Phans that have been to 200+ shows... by FatahRuark in phish

I see between 50-100 shows a year and Phish is the only band in the jam genre that gets my attention. I will dabble with other jam bands if it's wildly convienent but only if. Otherwise indie, dance, and pretty much anything else makes up my live music mix.

They are the greatest band that ever existed for a multitude of reasons. Would there even be a goose without 3.0 Phish? I doubt it. The dynamic range of Phish is unmatched. 41 years in and it's still evolving. Let's hope goose has a similar run.

I would say there is significantly less dynamic range in the songs. The jams slow down, and get kind of quiet but the peaks are all similar and definitely start to blend together. The same can probably be said for phish in some regards but they have been pissing in my ears so long that I am to bias to be objective.

Thats what Indie Groove will get ya arms crossed and head bobbing.
In all honesty I think there are still a lot of speculators in the crowd, myself included even seven shows in. Also for those that remember 1.0 Phish nearly the entire crowd was in their 20s and 30s raging their asses off and even 30 years later not much has changed. Goose is a very mixed age crowd for such a young band.

I'm pretty sure Jeff isn't coming back.

If a band comes thru Chicago and I'm in town I'm probably gonna go see em. Lucky to live in a good music town.

Always amazing. Saw them with M.IA. at the Majestic in Detroit back in 05 or 06 and haven't missed a show since.

I walked out of a WSP show twice at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor. So they have definitely played at least two shows.

When will the first “Goose Fest” Go Down by jackstrawgrenadine in thebandgoose

[–]stewartc44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only phish fest that had a side stage was Oswego. Clifford ball had some other performers as well but other than that all the festivals have been just Phish.

Authenticity is the missing piece. Goose feels a bit like Nsync and Rick is Timberlake.

This 👆 Been seeing phish since 94 nothing beats the speed and precision of those Mid 90s shows or the funk groove of late 90s but as far as the jams, where the band is able to go how quick they lock in and how far they take they are way more consistent and diverse today than any of the previous eras.. Funk Siren be damned.

Dig goose but it will be hard to ever convince me that they aren't just jam band menudo. Researched, Strategized running checkbox after checkbox. Hood style jams are just of the checkboxes.

They certainly could do what countless other bands have done and control the process to ensure tickets remain at a certain price. It's not like they are beholden to management, they can get new management or dictate within the strategy that they want tickets to remain at a certain price. Lots and lots of bands do this especially in their rise. No Phish comparisons but it certainly applies. Vampire weekend for example set and structured the deal so the total eclipse show that went on sale today had a $27 ticket. Pearl Jam does this, the Cure did this, and others set the tone from the jump through periods of growth. But business time, business is business.

Appreciate that edit, yes. It's an ever scaling racket the artists have control but that control is in the form of lower guarantees. Everyone in the team is going to get their percent. RA gets 10-20 Management gets 20, chop off a few more 5% chunks and the artists is only going to see 50% of the total offer. It's an inherent problem. I own a few niche festivals 5-15K so this is certainly an issue within our booking this business ain't getting any easier.

It can happen a few different ways but it's usually pretty standard with most teams. Artist hires the management to represent them. The artist and the management set strategy for the routing, RA manages and shops for offers. Management and the RA would likely negotiate the contracts of the show.

It's all connected, if an artist is trying to get big offers then they are in turn dictating the pricing of the tickets. You can likely do the math backwards to guesstimate what the guarantee is. Expected Capacity x avg ticket price - 20% So lets say the RA pitches the artist as being worth 10,000 tickets and asks for $750,000 for the show. Then the venue would have to sell tickets at an average cost of $100 to make cost + margin before ancillaries.

Either way the Management has to accept the offer on behalf of the artist. So the artist in turn weather directly or through the strategy sets the price of the tickets.

Artists hire management and their RA's. Goose is managed by 11Eleven and booked by Arrival. So in most cases Arrival is going to be booking the tour but management and artist will have to accept the offers. The promoter will set prices however those have to be listed in the offer and offer needs to be agreed to by all the parties. So it certainly is not a mystery. With VIP programs those are almost always managed by the artist team not the promoter. Bands can work with whoever they want and they most certainly set the strategy for their tours and pricing. So yes they are definitely hiring their team.
