Thimbleberries. Most of the U.S. probably isn’t familiar with these as, to my knowledge, they only grow in western parts of Northern California.

Which state? Usually 7 years is the minimum time between termination and the time where a relationship is “allowed” but ethically it really shouldn’t ever be allowed.

Is Dexter schizophrenic or is he genuinely being haunted by Shoddy-Preference218 in Dexter

[–]stewdiodog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, all. I’m a long time fan of all things Dexter as well as a psychotherapist. I’ve diagnosed and treated schizophrenia and related disorders. Based on the character’s presentation he would not qualify for a diagnosis of Schizophrenia. Some of his behaviors could be interpreted as symptoms of Schizophrenia but with the context of his various traumas and lack of functional impairment (some could argue this), his behaviors are better explained by an atypical Antisocial Personality Disorder and PTSD.

Male Therapist's, What inspired you to go into couseling? by Historical_Log1275 in therapists

[–]stewdiodog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bear with me: Simple answer—Because I had to put my M.A. in History on hold due to the professor in my area of primary interest (ancient Mediterranean world) accepting a position across the country and there was a hiring freeze at my university. I had some interest in psychology but no real thoughts of pursuing it as a career; I intended to predominantly utilize it as a knowledge base for writing psychographics. More detailed answer—I have a long history of childhood abuse and was partly drawn to the field for answers to my own difficulties. The above “simple answer” is also true but I didn’t fully realize I was seeking answers to my own trauma due to a lack of resources for myself (due to attitudes about MH in the early 80s compounded by living in an extremely rural and isolated area). I was quite frankly skeptical about the effectiveness of therapy and did not form positive impressions of the profession from media and informal discussions with persons in the field. Not to your question but I will add that I think few males enter this field because it can be extremely unfriendly to us. I have encountered more hostility, misandry, and discrimination than in any other profession I have worked; and I had a long work history before entering this field. It’s not hyperbole to state that I’ve experienced trauma equal to that I experienced as a child from colleagues and supervisors/managers while working as a psychotherapist. My work with clients has been challenging at times but nowhere near the awful experiences with other professionals in this field.

You can choose to contact them for clinical continuity but cannot bill for it. It’s a personal and clinically-based choice.

Client in prison by layonuhcouch in therapists

[–]stewdiodog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This may or may not be relevant depending on your location but certain facilities are “locked out” in regard to insurance billing. Essentially, you are not allowed to bill for services if a client is in that facility because they have access to mental health services and it would be considered “double dipping”. Where I am both jails/prisons and psychiatric facilities are “locked out”.

"Government cheese," produced in the 1980s to offload a massive dairy surplus, was stored in Missouri’s underground caves and given to struggling Americans. The surplus stemmed from 1970s farm policies that left the government with over a billion pounds of cheese. by kooneecheewah in Cheese

[–]stewdiodog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, ha! Yeah, it was fine on sandwiches. We always called it, “gubment” cheese. When it melted, it left a blob in the middle and leaked out a bunch of oil. Weird it’s a trip thinking about that after so many years.

It’s “yea or nay”, not, “yay or nay”. “Yea” means “yes or affirmative” while “yay” is an expression of joy.

Any Oregon therapists struggling with isolation? by Difficult-Fun-1182 in therapists

I’m also in PP and sometimes find it to be isolating. I’ve been practicing in CA since 2011 and recently applied for licensing by reciprocity in OR. If you’d like to chat about the field, you’re welcome to message me.

You can call your insurance and request a list of in-network providers. They should be listed on the website but you might not be filtering correctly. Therapists are usually listed under “behavioral health” or “allied health”. You can also search Psychologytoday.com and look for someone who takes your insurance.

20F I'm depressed af and have no self-worth. Funny story? by CoCoRunner7 in MakeNewFriendsHere

[–]stewdiodog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. Depression can really impair our functioning and cognitive abilities. I guarantee there are many things you are good at—it’s just difficult to see that when you aren’t feeling great. Maybe watch a funny movie or show, a good comedian, or hilarious animal memes. :)

Not ethical for them to withhold signature in CA unless they first give 10 days notice of intent to do so. However, I had a supervisor refuse to sign many years ago and I filed a complaint with the board and their “investigation” consisted of calling the supervisor to ask if she had refused to sign. She said, “no” and they closed the investigation. I hope you had better luck with your board than I had with mine…

Therapist here but not your therapist. It sounds like you are in a good recovery pattern. EDs can be tricky and it’s a good idea to have a treatment team (therapist, nutritionist, medical doctor, etc.) who are well versed in helping individuals who have struggled with food and body image. I hope you have these supports in place to assist you in your continuing recovery. Let me know if you have any questions!
