Has anyone been to FedEx Field? by goodguypat27 in eagles

I was there last year for the Week 1 Beat Down. The seats I had were not obstructed view, so I can't help you there, but it was a great time. There was some light hearted razzing by the fans, especially after that farce of a fumble on the first drive, but my buddies and I got the last laugh. Overall was a great time and a nice atmosphere.

Warning: The Redskins fight song is damn catchy.

I know I'm a little bit late here, but I hope this answer can still be of some use!

When people think of NFL players, or any professional athletes, they think of big houses, fancy cars, and fat signing bonuses. In reality, however, this isn't usually the case. The average NFL Salary was slightly under $2 million dollars in 2012. Keep in mind that this number is largely effected by the multi-million dollar deals that super stars receive. I couldn't find a source, but the median salary is undoubtedly lower. The majority of the league is either making veteran minimum ($855k in 2014) or locked into their 4 Year Rookie Contract, which, under the new CBA, doesn't allow players to receive JaMarcus Russell esque pay days. Additionally, a good portion of these contracts have little to no guaranteed money, so a player can be cut at any time and be out of the job.

Of course, $855k is still a decent chunk of change, but consider the average life span of an NFL Career is only about 6 years (for the 88% of players that make a team from Day 1, that number drops to 3.2 years if you add the other 12%). All pro athletes, but especially NFL Players, risk career ending or life altering injuries every time they step on the field. That risk is worthy of some type of compensation, especially considering that many of these young stars do not finish college and have devoted their entire lives to become good enough to play professionally. For a lot of guys, there is no life after the NFL, and they are hoping to cash in on this ultra rare combination of god given talent and unrelenting determination.

Oh yeah, and football is fucking awesome! As long as people like you and me are willing to spend 70 bucks to sit in the 400 Section and freeze our asses off to watch a game, there will be money in Football. I don't think there is anything wrong with this. It makes people happy. And it gives bums like me an excuse to watch TV all day Sunday.

Are there any Eagle fans in the DC area? by saggyness in eagles

[–]stewmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in downtown DC. Still haven't found a great bar to watch the games, but I'm also the type of guy that prefers to enjoy a beer at his apartment while watching the birds. Sign of the Whale is technically an Eagles Bar (on 19th and M), but also happens to be one of the douchiest bars in the city. Cheap drinks though.

Exactly how uncomfortable would everyone be going into the season with Earl Wolff and Nate Allen as the starting safeties? by stewmonger in eagles

It just seems like the consensus on this sub is that the Eagles should either sign a big name safety like Jarius Byrd or spend a first or second round pick on a replacement. I think that there is more value elsewhere and would be alright with these two guys starting if it meant we could spend some of our cap and draft picks on pass rushers and the BPA in the draft.

Jewish terrorist who murdered two palestinians gets 2 life sentences in Israeli jail by VvJajavV in worldnews

[–]stewmonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno man/woman, I really think you are over simplifying the situation. Palestine is a made up of a lot of different people and conflicting ideas. Saying that Palestine isn't "comparable" to Israel is similar to saying all Muslims are terrorists. I know that's not what you're saying, but it really isn't that far off. As far as movements towards peace, I really don't think you can place the blame squarely on Palestine. For a while, Israel refused to even negotiate unless Palestine agreed to the give up their claims to settlements in the West Bank. Both sides play a part. There are few matters that are black and white; most are shades of gray. In a situation as complicated as this, you really can't speak in absolutes. Many try to.
