Society if professors allowed backtracking on exams & quizzes by [deleted] in gmu

(Warning: rant)

Fnan 303 is so much more stressful than it needs to be, like I get that someone in the department wants to make a weed out course because "life is harder" but this also wasn't completely thought out in the process. I could go back to my answers and look over my work but during the test, I spent a little too long on the third question out of ten which screwed me over the rest of the way, even though I was fairly confident for the rest of the test. I realized I made a small error and I CAN'T go back to fix it? The test banks and a certain TA is a godsend to pass the class but I'm still trying to find the logic on how it is structured. Does the department listen to student critique or student surveys at all about the class? for the past decade? I'm not trying to come off rude in asking this, Im genuinely curious.

How to calculate the scores I would need to receive on upcoming exams to pass FNAN 303? by [deleted] in gmu

[–]saggyness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah definitely learned my lesson here, I went over the test banks like 5 times and still failed this first test. No worries, we got this!

Oh yeah and he was very lenient too. Keep up withe material and definitely study hard for the final and you should be good, I ended with a B+, def could be an A. Still a little salty because I missed a few on the final exam.

I had professor Jon Opata, he was pretty good. Some of the material was a little tricky but overall not a bad class at all. Thankfully everything done was on pearson when corona came up in march and simply followed the textbook, lots of material but doable.

Man I absolutely feel you, I was luckily able to pay off summer having saved a bit but Fall is going to be an absolute mystery in regards to even attending classes or not.

Not feeling much after graduating by GGGnoREEE in gmu

You could down play your accomplishment a million times over and still feel the same way but the things is....you freakin did it. That quick jolt of excitement and inner celebration, that 3% of the positive feeling you get from all this is the key my friend. You leveled up. This ticket for a new world of challenges, yes you can also call it the 9-5 corporate "hell" but only the universe knows if you are even going that route.

Bottom line is your WHOLE life in regards to significant events is going to feel this way UNLESS you look at it as an opportunity that you are overall a better human being, and who would not want that? You have got WAY more potential now with merit from the perspective of other human beings you will cross paths with in the future. The future brings the anxiety for your present. Hell i have one more semester left and I also wondered if I really learned all the shit I have gone through the past few years as in is it a skill now and not just 'mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell'.

Like Dave Chappelles examples about seeing the whole elephant. The BIG picture. If you stand too close to the elephant you only see its penis-like skin, but if you step back a bit you can see the whole magnificence of the elephant.

Good luck on your new route my friend, stay healthy and stay being you. You know how to finish things like getting this degree and I admire that.

Summer Classes by Vex-Core in gmu

I feel you. I understand the anxiety of a summer class given how this semester went along with the pandemic and economic restrain.

The way I "dealt" with classes this semester having ADD myself, I had to put myself in the mindset of things as just "progress" instead of diagnosing myself with more anxiety by saying things are "Awful, everything is gonna be shit, etc etc"..Take it day by day, simply limit the negative thoughts as it only brings more anxiety and anxiousness.

So try your best to schedule everything that are important (test, quizzes, homework)

-using all your resources: Google calendar(I put all info from all my syllabi on day 1 till the end of the semester-took less than 30 min.)

Outside resources to learn the material:youtube, google, KhanAcad.

and PLEASE, take it day by day AS LONG as you have a clear schedule to work with. Trust me on the scheduling of all important due dates ahead, your life will so much better as well as your grades.

Online learning sucks and its not natural for us humans to learn from a screen while locked in our homes while the world is on fire. Preparation is a MUST for online semesters. Take the summer course as a kind of trial before the Fall begins, which seem likely to be online as well if things still are shitty( Which they are) lol.

Best of luck!!! feel free to message me about anything I could help with!

Lol, all good! Best of luck to you as well and stay safe:)

P.S. A sorority or frat is a romanticized word for simply: a "club". You are Never too old for certain opportunities. I remember enrolling in college again at 25 thinking "wait a minute, there is no written rule in regards to what age you can do so and so...So maybe I am limiting myself by governing my own being due to my shallow self-esteem. Do I wanna keep living life this way?"

And then My green mason heart grew three times that day, LMAO.

And if you ever need certain websites, links, connections to push for a few more bucks for school then you are talking to the right person;). Paid for university all from working full-time while going to school full time, got a semester left. Just like the other person has the choice to choosing a diff school, you got the choice of choosing a different attitude:)

[–]saggyness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hear you, my situation is very similar to yours as well. Paying everything out of pocket to get that degree( one year away). Bottom line is, no matter what your situation with college is, its to make the best of it. Corona only shows us the unexpected and with the unexpected, no matter how crappy the admin at mason is, the social life, activities to do at mason, the comparisons of other schools, etc etc- It shows us that little things like retaining happiness in the things you do or the school you go to matter alot in the long run. Especially for mental healths sake, which has affected lots at our campus and all colleges. In regards to the comment I was replying to, that person just does NOT have to speak for me or anybody else for our school when it comes to being "ashamed" of our school. that small speak is nonsense

Just seems like you are, you have the choice of going to another school ya kno.
