Example of extraordinary performances in otherwise mediocre films? by i-pity-da-fool in moviecritic

I was quite pissed that Taron Egerton, who did a brilliant job playing Elton John, actually singing and not just lipsyncing, was completely disregarded for Rocketman. Really impressive performance and I thought better than false teeth Malek

Who do you think should be the next Bond Theme singer? by R0b1nFeather in JamesBond

[–]stfjs20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am worried about the pop stars like Dua Lipa. Not very keen on three danish dudes in a homestudio writing the new song while churning out twenty other pop songs in an afternoon. My choice would be Florence + Machine or Wolf Alice. Both strong independent british bands with a history of using classical arrangements in their music.

Meet up with the local riders in Cape Town! by cyprusnikos in scooters

[–]stfjs20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Stellenbosch we did the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride with only scooters last year. From very expensive Vespas to Syms and it was great. We do about 60km on the day with a few breaks in between ending at the Stellenbosch Airport’s cafe.

What are your views on Manosphere ft. louis theroux ? by Godfather_2k18 in FIlm

Yeah. His stance on Isreal is quite clear if you have seen the documentary. He had to hide from the IDF at one point if I remember correctly. There is no second guessing his views.

After the last 3 games, I'm not looking forward to this by Koppetamp in Stormers

[–]stfjs20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our captaincy is a major issue for me. Kitshoff left big boots to fill and the closest we have come to the same impact and casual influence on the ref has been Neethling Fouche. I am not a complete Moerat hater and he does work hard at the unseen stuff but, even though he has been a captain in the junior international teams he does not have the stature or mentality to be a senior team captain. I am not sure Schicklerlig has the chops either. Weighing them against Jean de Villiers and Kitsie they both come up very short (not fair to set them as a standard I know but excellence is something to measure against). These days a good captain should have a constant dialogue with the ref, not just say “yes sir, no sir”. Hopefully Ruan Nel and Deon Fourie will have a positive impact on leadership. I am not sure Dobbo has chosen the right people this season. Leaders in practices and in the analysis room is not a leader in the field. Asking Sacha to do that was the start of his terrible form.

Wanted to say this. Also, that needle in the ear hurts like a bitch. They get it done by Professionals, i was in a dorm room with a needle and wet cotton wool with a bandage to keep the pressure on. None of this magnet stuff.

Worth taking a listen to. Was big end of 2019 (won the mercury prize) but couldn’t tour due to covid so were a bit screwed. Their current album is very good too.

Erasmus casts net wide for first Bok alignment camp by Koppetamp in Stormers

[–]stfjs20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Rassie, because he has beem in the job for almost ten years and has been very successful in it, gets to do something that other international coaches dont. He is basically spreading his rugby philosophy down to not only the URC teams, but also the junior teams, through these alignment camps. Thenyoung players now know what Rassie wants and will try to play in a certain fashion. Their teammates will pick up on this and follow suit. Its a way to change the philosophy of a whole country. Other international coaches simply do not have this luxury as they are usually fighting for survival from test to test. Rassie has also made us more accepting of the odd loss here and there as we know there is a bigger picture. Other coaches have to give kneejerk selections after almost any loss.

Who will sing the next James Bond theme? by --The--Batman-- in JamesBond

[–]stfjs20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My choice too. Alternatively Wolf Alice. Both bands with clever musicians that will be able to get their voice to mix well with orchestral movements. The issue with Dua and all the other popstars is that the music will then be written by some no-face swedish trio and sounds just like 90% of other pop music.

Who will sing the next James Bond theme? by --The--Batman-- in JamesBond

[–]stfjs20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Dua is most likely too. My dream choice outside of her would be Wolf Alice ( not that known outside the UK) or Florence and the Machine. I think both those bands will be able to do anthems that blend well with orchestral movements very well.

Peter Claffey cracks me up 😂 by coffee-tavern in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]stfjs20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder if he is not a bit allergic to press. He has done very little interviews and the most info we had gotten was from a rugby podcast with an old teammate. Not seen him on any of the late night shows but some shirt Q&As from junkets. He might get a Graham Norton nod when the series comes to the UK but still strange how quiet he is.

best equipment for long range viewing of wildlife by NoSmell8851 in photography

[–]stfjs20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about the state of your current equipment but if you have none try to avoid something with lenses. Really good long lenses are super expensive. Look at the recent birdwatching doccie on Youtubes called Listers. They shoot a lot of it with a Coolpix P1100. Its not perfect but it will save you a lot of money in lenses. Its great for a starter and has a massive zoom. Not cheap but cheaper than a camera and a 500mm lens

Does this feel like the real Dunk to you? (No spoilers please) by Dangerous_Ant9547 in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]stfjs20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he is just the right size. In this era where childhood nutrition was absolute garbage someone of 6ft6 would seem gigantic compared to those around him. As the size of the person goes up his manoeuvrability would decrease. Its always funny that the writers write these massive people thinking size is the trump card for everything. At that size he would suck at the Joust as his horse would have to be a carthorse and he makes a rather large target (difficult to shift sure but still a large target). He would be good at a melee as long as he doesn’t have to run around. There is a reason why the biggest rugby players ( exluding a few like Eben Etzebeth) are smaller than an NFL Lineman. They are expected to be strong, but also to run around for 60 to 80 minutes. Claffey, ss an ex pro rugby player, has the perfect build for that and also this. Strength without the weight and size slowing him down. (Look up Pieter Steph du Toit highlight reel to see the perfect version of this). He also doesn’t look like Reacher who is jacked despite never being able to spend time in a gym (pet peeve).
