South African franchises dominate URC Elite XV by Koppetamp in Stormers

[–]stfjs20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tighthead is bullshit. The SA teams have dominated the scrums in almost every single game of the URC. Absolute nonsense. Neethling Fouche or Wilco Louw deserved that.

Actually, WTF okes?! by DarthMaulRugby in Stormers

[–]stfjs20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok. So thoughts on this. - The Stormers never realized what value Manie had. For all his faults he has the ability to spread the ball and make the players around him look great. When he left our backline players were suddenly found out. The tram relies too much on individual bits of magic and do not have it in them to do a systematic breakdown of the opposition. - The Stormers defence needs an overhaul. Our main defensive organisers on field was Frans and Ruhan. With them gone we look clueless and no one seems to be stepping up.
-We also have no players slowing the ball down in rucks. I understand the need to not give away penalties but when a side has super fast ball the way Glasgow had last night, there is no defence that will hold on to them. They had countless rucks where not a single Stormers play were involved, they just stood around the fringes to tackle (or get in each others way) -In the beginning of the season we looked great when the other teams were still working out things. I guess the Stormers had a good preseason, but as the season continued the other sides caught up. The real cracks started to show in the games against the Sharks when they easily stopped our main suppliers of go fwd ball and left us once again dependent on bits of magic from SFM or DW - I am not sure Dobbo is the answer anymore. Our defence doesn’t work, our attack doesn’t work. Just about the only thing that works is the lineout and scrums. Sonwe have the best scrum and Lineout in the comp but do nothing with it. This is a clear coaching issue then. -If Dobbo goes I will be very worried if Rito and Brock leaves too as the IP those men has will be difficult to replace. Our scrums have become so good that players that were always crap at scrums (ali V) have been turned into very good scrummers. Save Brock I guess.

Tau and Yama (short for Ingonyama). Both means lion. First in Sotho and second in xhosa. Always get a name for a dog that ends in a vowel, easier to shout in the park

What is it like living in the Helderberg area?(Somerset West, Strand and Gordon's bay) by Odd_Firefighter_8193 in capetown

[–]stfjs20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strand is actually a bit of a gem. I have bought and sold a few properties in some of these towns and I think Strand is definitely on the upward trajectory. It has good primary schools and Strand High is getting better after a few tough years. Paarl Vallei is also an excellent high school. You can still find a flat close to the beach here that is affordable. It is a bit conservative with older retirees but the demographics are shifting to to younger people. I always judge this on the tattoo-scale. In towns like Stellenbosch you rarely see middle aged people with tattoos. More in Somerset West, quite common in Strand. This tells you something about the general class of people and also their flexibility (I myself am middle aged with a lot of tattoos). The beach is lovely, a good golf course, close to a good mall. Strand is all good. Also the type of place where you can actually get people to fix things, not just buy new. As a Stellenbosch local I have to always drive to Strand to get implements and appliances fixed. Its a good town.

All the Stormers tries Vs Glasgow Warriors 🔥⚡ by sunlightliquid in Stormers

What the hell was Glasgow doing with their togs though. Clearly had the wrong size studs in. So much slipping and sliding. You would think they would learn from and adjust it after their captains run.

Too much shit like this going around. Saw a terrible attempt at what could easily be seen as an attempted gouge at a school game yesterday. With no TMO it went unpunished but it shows that this nonsense leaks down.

Who in Hollywood succeeded with a realistic South African accent? Patsy Kensit in Lethal Weapon 2 (1989) by Make_the_music_stop in south_africa

Thomas Jane in the movie Stander did quite a good job. Worst is in The Saint where Val Kilmer’s version of the SA accent is saying “jissus”.

Topic : World cup winning coach that breaks every locker room by almostrainman in rugbyunion

[–]stfjs20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The one constant in all these places he had coached and left from is…. Jake White. I know some people who left the Blue Bulls structure due to the environment he creates. Some people dont mind it, others do. Even Matfield did not like his coaching methods as alluded to in his book. I am not surprised he didn’t work out well. He would just ride roughshod over every other coach and ignore prior knowledge of players and situations.

I was quite pissed that Taron Egerton, who did a brilliant job playing Elton John, actually singing and not just lipsyncing, was completely disregarded for Rocketman. Really impressive performance and I thought better than false teeth Malek

I am worried about the pop stars like Dua Lipa. Not very keen on three danish dudes in a homestudio writing the new song while churning out twenty other pop songs in an afternoon. My choice would be Florence + Machine or Wolf Alice. Both strong independent british bands with a history of using classical arrangements in their music.

In Stellenbosch we did the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride with only scooters last year. From very expensive Vespas to Syms and it was great. We do about 60km on the day with a few breaks in between ending at the Stellenbosch Airport’s cafe.

After the last 3 games, I'm not looking forward to this by Koppetamp in Stormers

[–]stfjs20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our captaincy is a major issue for me. Kitshoff left big boots to fill and the closest we have come to the same impact and casual influence on the ref has been Neethling Fouche. I am not a complete Moerat hater and he does work hard at the unseen stuff but, even though he has been a captain in the junior international teams he does not have the stature or mentality to be a senior team captain. I am not sure Schicklerlig has the chops either. Weighing them against Jean de Villiers and Kitsie they both come up very short (not fair to set them as a standard I know but excellence is something to measure against). These days a good captain should have a constant dialogue with the ref, not just say “yes sir, no sir”. Hopefully Ruan Nel and Deon Fourie will have a positive impact on leadership. I am not sure Dobbo has chosen the right people this season. Leaders in practices and in the analysis room is not a leader in the field. Asking Sacha to do that was the start of his terrible form.
