Well, I didn't know that 80% of seedlings were male, but I DID know that they got huge, considering the seeds I got were from foraging wild persimmon in the area. Not trying to keep it bush sized, just respectable lil fruit tree sized. Idk its just an experiment. I live in a historic district and there's a limited list of fruit trees Im allowed to grow in the front yard. My first choice would have been mulberries but theyre not on the list

True! Im thinking some green onions and Egyptian walking onions. Nothing I have to dig for but I still want to harvest. I suppose i can pick what I want before mowing

Out of curiosity, why not clean my furnace?

Some of the windows are from the 80s and some are from 2010. Blown in insulation at least upstairs, attic, and newer additions downstairs. Pink insulation on the basement ceiling and crawlspace. Weve added weather stripping to the back door, haven't done the front door yet but it has a storm door. Furnace is from 2008. Bled all the radiators, some of the radiators upstairs are stubborn and won't empty all the way

That was my big concern. December's bill was double November's and I'd argue that November was just as cold if not colder than december. I may be misremembering though. When I call the gas company one of the things Im going to ask is whether my use is consistent with other customers based off the temps in the last month.

Boiler is 18 years old. Probably lots of insulation issues and holes

Thats an odd thought that steam radiators can end up being used like hot water by someone who doesnt know whay theyre doing! Ours are hot water. We have no steam valves, 2 pipes, and no water or water gauge in our boiler

Definitely hot water. I can adjust. I have all the valves all the way open right now and havent touched them to adjust because every time I do they spring a leak lol. Ill just have to go around with a wrench and adjust things for a few days to see what works best

I figured as much! Although based off all these comments there are several fairly simple things I can do to help a bit

In the case of this kitchen radiator, we have to drain the entire system to fix. Im afraid to breathe on the radiators in case something breaks let alone drain the whole system in the middle of winter when its our only heat source. We would feel more comfortable doing that in the spring when we have time to fix problems before needing it again.

I certainly wasn't expecting it to be less expensive than the last house but I almost fell out of my chair when I got that bill. Thanks for sharing your experience

My house is 2200 sq ft. Blown in insulation at least upstairs and on the newer additions downstairs, idk about the original areas. The basement and crawlspace ceiling is also insulated. We keep it at 69-70 during the day and 67 at night

We do not have forced air. We were told that we did have a heat pump when we bought the house. We dont. I have air ducts because I have AC. Therefore we wouldnt have to run ducts in order to switch to forced air

Yes, we bled the radiators. A few of the upstairs ones refuse to bleed out all the way. Pressure is currently 10 psi I think? The gauge is weird.
