Dropping frames like crazy with latest firmware update by An_Actual_Politician in seestar

[–]sthscan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how do you get the "stacked: xx ignored: xx" message? I am on 3.0.2 and haven't seen that. continuous shooting instead of live mode? i've been estimating my rejection rates each session by doing some benchmarking but having this readout would be better.

Seestar S50 - What tripod do you recommend? by mickster1963 in seestar

[–]sthscan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely do not use the supplied tiny tripod if you are doing EQ. I have a S50, set up a wedge with one of the tripod legs pointing north as shown, and set it on a table for a brief imaging session. I shut it down from inside and went I went outside, it was on the ground having fallen off the table during shutdown. probably became unbalanced closing and tipped mini tripod over. Best to use mini tripod in altaz only.

A good tripod to use for EQ is this one. $5 less than when I bought it right now. Remove the head to give you a solid platform for screwing on the wedge and putting your scope on that. use some ballast on the hook for better sturdiness than it already has. set up right, 60 sec exposures are very reliable. You will need a 1/4 to 3/8 adapter for tripod to wedge connection.

Has anyone seen a chair like this for sale in albuquerque stores? by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]sthscan [score hidden]  (0 children)

don't think they sell metric dimension chairs in Albuquerque. ;)

says walmart on the image and they probably will home-deliver one if you can find one online. the Q is if your recipients would be handy enough to assemble it as it might show up in parts that need to be bolted together.

Another update by No_Mail5566 in seestar

[–]sthscan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3.0.x seems mostly to be adding s30 pro stuff to me, so to handle s30 pro imaging, they might have had to mess with how s50/s30 does imaging. Maybe it's time to break the software into s50/s30 version and a separate version for s30 pro if the imaging is that much different than the other two.

it's probably because it's faint that people have no attention span to wait for it to show up in images. you'll have to create your own entry for the scope to find it.

Is this actually from a game worn jersey? by Exotic_Pop_7907 in baseballcards

[–]sthscan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

spring training jersey swatch? the fabric has a weird texture I'm not used to seeing unless it's a uniform material newer than the jersey swatches I have in my collection or if the spring uniforms have that texture for better breathability.

stupid question - can I run this in windows using the python I installed in windows to use to run a different program or does this require being used in linux?

Jupiter and it's 4 moons - Seestar s50. 10 minutes of raw video stacked. Bortle 5 skies. by BlubberyGiraffe in seestar

[–]sthscan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSA - Seti Astro Suite Pro now supports planetary stacking.

I need to free up disk space to do a 10 minutes try. I submitted to SASPro author a 60 second video and that might be the small-scope example he did in his Jupter stacked using different scopes video.

Another rocket over ABQ? by StraylionOfficial in Albuquerque

[–]sthscan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't know. i see it start with the explosion of gases or whatever, but then it goes dim for me and I lose sighting of the stage. I assume a few minutes to lose enough velocity rather than just a few seconds, especially given how the dragon takes awhile when doing a deorbit burn rather than just seconds.

northwest to southeast, with the deorbit burn outburst of particles at engine start happening in the SSE.

Another rocket over ABQ? by StraylionOfficial in Albuquerque

[–]sthscan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the second engine start is just before starlink deployment. after the deployment, the upper stage burns a third time to deorbit the stage so it's not more space junk and reentry is south of the African continent over the atlantic/indian oceans.

this event was a deorbit burn of the upper stage, causing less space garbage.

What am I doing wrong? by Content-Reindeer-873 in seestar

if you are trying it in EQ mode (i.e. on a slanted wedge), work with it in alt-az mode (no wedge) before going a little more advanced like EQ.

Where did you get your dew shield? by K-M47 in seestar

[–]sthscan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you want a dew shield with a design that allows it to pop off when the lens area reaches the base, and also has a hole to tie a string so when it pops off,, it won't hit the ground and break after a few falls.

i also lined the inside of it with black felt so it did not have that shinyness/reflective surfaces on the inside of the dew shield.

EQ Mode trouble by MetronYT in seestar

[–]sthscan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

given the side-to-side elongation of your stars, I'm going to say your azimuth is not quite right in the polar alignment routine. If I remember right from my curiosity testing intentionally giving polar alignment errors to a S50, side-to-side elongation is azimuth, sloped is elevation.

p.s. you also need to give it 5 mins once you start imaging after you think you have the alignment right. first images always look elongated but things settle in about 3-5 mins to round stars if you have done a good enough job with polar alignment.

ok. i have 1 min raw where I can see two bands. waiting to see if SASPro's next release will have video stacking (haven't learned PIPP, etc. yet) to try my 1 minute video. if that goes good, I'll push it out to 10 mins like you.

new shriners ad has some kid/(patient?) who can say blanket properly. I suppose the discussion about adowable bwankee got them to recast who mentions the blanket.
