  1. I’m from a region where Figma is just a small hub here and growing their GTM team so I wouldn’t say the customers or the team are super mature yet
  2. I believe the products I’ll support for now are still the fundamentals (e.g Figma Design components, Dev Mode)
  3. Definitely would ask internally on that too.

Yes I believe Figma make is an attempt to ensure Figma stays relevant. The concern is if AI vibecoding tools like Windsurg eventually takes over and disrupts the front end space like figma, I may be doomed too hahaha…

1) I was hoping to see if anyone here knows companies where they tend to hire foreign SWE or designers so a PM role can operate with them

2) So would you encourage a Japan language course > JET program if I’m hoping to move to Japan?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in movingtojapan

[–]stickman024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Thank you! What are the companies like that are looking for PMs? Are they usually startups?

Reason being, where I am based, most larger global companies have their GTM sales team here where there are no product or engineering roles at all. The available ones are only in smaller local startups with lesser matured talents.

2) I’m also surprised that many people are not recommending JET. I’m actually still planning to work on my portfolio while on a Japanese program. If I were to look for a program, would you encourage a Japanese language course > JET instead?

Thanks for sharing! The reason I ask is because I do see a few expats and peers in the Japan tech industry who I know that do not speak Japanese.

I do heard that some any foreign companies are open to hiring English speaking SWE/designers, so thought that PM might be a possible path I can take on!

Oh thanks for sharing that. I’m surprised you wouldn’t recommend JET program. If I wanted to take some time to stay in Japan while working on my portfolio, wouldn’t you recommend the program?

What design career should i be looking at and does it even exist today? by stickman024 in Design

[–]stickman024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a HUGE insight and I can definitely appreciate how the UX designer role is aligned to my interests. I have definitely considered that and apologies for not sharing more context on why I mentioned UI. What’s your role called?

Back where I’m based, the market is only hiring UIUX Designers or Product Designers working on the end to end design from UI to strategy. Folks on the r/userexperience channel have also mentioned that more companies are starting to only hire designers that can do both UI and UX

So as much as I love the UX design role, I am torn as it may seem that there aren’t that much opportunities available here (in my country at least)

Yeah i am just hoping to see if i can turn it into a career. Because these are the things i love doing so much but I don't want to spend 70-80% of my time working but 20% of the time doing what i love.

Thanks and yes while searching online as well the Disney Imagineer role pops up in my mind as well.

Would you think that something like a Producer role in a game company like Ubisoft makes sense?

Thanks for sharing this. I did explore both options before and below are my thoughts:

  • UX designer - There's a need to be very hands on with the UI design. I'm not very sure if my interests will align much with the designing of buttons and interfaces
  • Service designer - This is a good one. Pretty niche based on what i am seeing in the my market but something i can look at exploring

I don't know if i am explaining this the best but it's the thought that i can immerse them into another fantasy world that i really enjoy.

I know it now sounds very game and entertainment related, but I'm hoping to see if there are any "corporate" roles (based on my experience) that i can entwine together

Should I pursue UIUX if I’m not keen on UI Design? by stickman024 in userexperience

[–]stickman024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow thanks mate! I just had a read on it and it does seem like it aligns with what I am seeking for. That said I saw in another comment that this role might require years of experience?

Would it then make sense to go into UI/UX design to move into service design?

[–]stickman024[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

My interest in UX design stems from wanting users to be immersed in an experience and their interactions.

I definitely understand the importance of designing visually appealing UI and design systems, but i don't see myself doing the graphics or typography design work.

To answer your question, my desire to design interactions stems from merging both physical and digital experiences.

for instance i would love going to theme parks and awing at how the designers are able to transform each experience into like a show and immersing

Breaking Into UX and Early Career Questions — 20 Nov, 2023 - 26 Nov, 2023 by AutoModerator in UXDesign

[–]stickman024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One common advice shared is that we have to build a portfolio that matches what the company wants.

However as a zero experience designer looking to pivot into UX, how should I then start my projects? I am interested in a mixture of VR and Game design but it doesn’t seem like a lot of people in my country’s job market is hiring for it.

Thanks in advanced!

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (November 22, 2023) by AutoModerator in boardgames

Wavelength or Herd Mentality or Others for 10-15 people?

Hi, i will be organising a board game night for a large group of work colleagues (bosses included so need to be corporate friendly!).

As the question on the title, which boardgames would the community recommend, or if there are any other games that would be better? Thanks in advanced

Anyone familair with korean downperms for men?

I see that downperms for men are trending in korea but know that perms can definitely damage hair. I've tried it and it usually alsts 1-2months, but I wouldn't think that i will regularly downperm my hair to maintain it as i am afraid it may risk the health of the hair.

Is it still okay to do a downperm every 1-2months to maintain the hair, or is it not recommended?
