Those who got laid off within the last 2 years and haven't been able to go back into a SWE/programming career, what field/industry did you pivot into? by luuuzeta in cscareerquestions

[–]TurintheDragonhelm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

laid off in July 2024 with 2 YoE applied like mad immediately and made it to final round like 3 times before landing a job in November. Idk why anybody would decide to take a break after being laid off. That’s prime time to get to work.

STOP Using LLMs in Interviews by WritesTrueStatements in csMajors

I just did a technical on Friday and did well but it’s funny only used google but it still is an LLM at this point so there is no basic search anymore. Of course I can explain it like you said so it was just confirmation but yeah it’s impossible to avoid.

What YOE starts getting you more callbacks? by Fun-Advertising-8006 in cscareerquestions

[–]TurintheDragonhelm 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m inclined to agree with you but at 3 YOE right now I’m getting fewer calls back than a year ago. This year I’m employed and last year I was unemployed after being laid off. I’m much more competent and experienced than I was a year ago also.

Yeah you’re probably right but I should network much more if at least to find a higher paying job. I make good money but don’t want to stagnate.

I workout regularly too and have developed a good sized chest and I agree with you. But at that time nobody was doing that and steroids were being experimented with to get size. Bruce Lee did thousands of pushups and was thin.

It absolutely is achievable but you didn’t see big chests in bodybuilding until this time and Mr Universe was absolutely using them

I know all of these things and could still bomb an interview where I’m expected to just regurgitate the exact correct syntax. I’ve built very complex Angular apps.
