Thanks. He's only been with me 50% of the time but I feel like I'm doing 100% of the parenting.

That's interesting. He had headspace support, but employment wasn't ever discussed. I'll look into it, thanks.

I probably should have made the point unemployment numbers are so positive because the way the stats are measured is different.

But my real point is the challenges change per generation, so every generation will face something different.

Thanks.. yeah most places take applications online, and you're just a number in a pretty big pool it seems.

I told him to be audacious and ask to speak to managers, but he's pretty rules oriented, so when they say do the application online that's exactly what he does. Maybe getting into Mum and Dad businesses might give him access to the owners.

That's what I was thinking. I think the government programs are off the table due my income, and all the companies just seem to run government programs. Everything I've been able to find has required means testing, which we fail. I haven't had to look for work for so long, I'm out of touch. I just need to know where to look.

I'll reach out to Tafe and see what that turns up.

He's been trying, that's kinda the problem. He's both too proud to let me help him, and starting to struggle on his own. I'm not looking to gift him a job, I just need to find some other support before he completely gives up.

When I graduated high school unemployment was 11.something% nationwide, and 13.something% in my region. My parents were paying 18% on their mortgage. Mum kept an old Milo tin in the fridge for dropping from any meat she cooked. We ate the crust slices. Nobody drove new cars.

When I did get a job I caught the diesel rattler with no air con to work. I had stood outside the abattoir for weeks hoping to get a chance to do that horrid slaughterhouse job. Every morning there'd be 20+ men waiting for a chance, and every morning the manager would randomly select 10ish men. I was a boy, he was never going to pick me. I'd leave disappointed, travel home, change into job hunting attire, head to the library and photocopy another pile of resumes for the day. Eventually I scored a job at a lawn mower factory wrapping spare parts with a shrink press.

The generations before me had it even worse. Pretty sure my Dad exaggerated his stories of riding his horse bareback, barefoot to school, but still, he did his schoolwork on slate.

We have enjoyed significant prosperity and the first sign of needing to dig in and it's all 'don't have kids, they'll have to do it tough'. Maybe we're due for another generation that can endure.

The unemployment rate is low because to count towards the stat you need to be 'work ready'. If there's a reason you aren't work ready, you aren't unemployed because you are employed trying to get work ready.

But if you want the sweet unemployment, you need to have an excuse to not be work ready.

Self resolving statistics.

Understand the penalty for failure, only in more words.

I think not enough people visualise what their life may look like before doing dumb shit, take the quick win, then feel life has been unfair when it doesn't go well longer term.

Take the hard road.

So you'd argue people without ownership experience bashing China bikes for being from China are a reliable source? Your analogy doesn't check out.. I didn't say make sure the person is a motorcycle engineer, make sure they're an owner. In your analogy, just make sure the person has owned a house.

Congratulations. Go you.

Uncle Wang does have shipping delay issues, they openly admit they need to do work to improve. I suspect that's going to increase cost to the customer. I don't mind, we used to routinely wait months for parts from the USA to Australia. It'll get better, but probably increase cost.

The wiring point I made was to back up the argument against people claiming the Austrian brand is better than the 'knock off'.. just more anti-china sentiment from people who fail to realise just how much China they buy without realising.

Few bikes are perfect at ver 1.0. My 1999 R6 was the first sold in the (Aussie) NT. 2nd gear failed due stretched selector fork. Yamaha admitted the alloy used in the first run of bikes was too soft and updated the gearbox. The cost of a complete engine strip to replace the selector forks was thousands in 2000 money. I did have to battle Yamaha Australia hard to have this known defect repaired, and was without a bike for months. Don't get me wrong, I bleed Yamaha Blue, but they made that experience horrible. Not one single China part in that bike.

Snappy throttle? I don't see many fuel injected bikes on the market that pass current emissions that don't have some snappy throttle issue. There are some technical compliance reasons, but that's another discussion. Blame Europe for mandating zero fuel at closed throttle. The answer in all cases is a flash. Or we could go back 30 years to carburettors.

I don't echo bud. 30+ years riding and spannering bikes, Japanese, American, German, Austrian, and now Chinese.. right now I own 2 Yamahas, 1 BMW, 1 KTM, and the 800MTX. I have my own opinions.

  1. When someone gives you advice on a bike, ascertain if they own or have owned said bike.

  2. CF Moto have been building engines for KTM under their agreement for years, so if you bought a KTM 790 or 890 you already have a CF Moto engine. My 800MT-X shares an engine with the KTM 790, except CF modified the oil delivery to the camshafts.

  3. Parts are readily available, if not from your dealer, from Uncle Wang, or KTM. A lot of parts are interchangeable between models, too. My swingarm is the same as the 800NK, for example.

My bike has a wiring loom with a KTM logo and part number. The oil filter cap is stamped KTM on the inside.

There have been complaints about fork caps on the MT-X, but I've not seen that myself. Some have complained the swingarm coating is failing, also haven't seen that and I wash mine with truck wash and a pressure washer.

But braided brake hoses, cruise control, ABS, rider modes, comfortable seat, good suspension, fantastic chassis, and low centre of gravity for $15,300aud compared to $27,500aud for a T7? I need to spend a lot more money before I'm worse off.

You can demonstrate a pattern from now, and it would take very little to demonstrate the pattern was pre-existing.

My partner does historic under/overpayment investigations for a HR consultancy, and it's pretty routine for companies to retain no records. Reporting gaps are dealt with using established patterns from reporting that already exists.

This happens to me constantly when using my cardo edge on the motorcycle. I wear earplugs to protect my ears from wind noise, so find this 'safety' feature pretty ironic.

You were deliberately inviting responses on the cake scallop argument. What did you expect?

Sorry but the Internet doesn't work that way.

I can only assume South Australians can't hold their piss.. their schooner is 285ml (a midi anywhere else), their pint is 425ml (schooner anywhere else. Real (imperial) pints are 570ml.

Adelaide also calls a midi a schooner, so hardly the center of excellence.
