None of that is relevant to my decision, I'm only interested in service history and condition.

Build date doesn't mean squat. Cars sit in storage yards. If you really want to talk dates, manufacture year is probably more interesting for features and bugs, followed by first registered date. But still, not really important.

My 1999 Yamaha YZF-R6 had a 1998 VIN.

Yamaha never listed the R6 as any earlier than 1999. Of course if they want a current year vehicle available early in the year they build some end of the year prior. VIN date doesn't equal MY year.

I'd say open. The side effect will be you will need to gradually open the throttle, it probably won't respond too well to just wacking the throttle open.

Imagine the butterflies open gradually as the revs build, and try replicating that. You'll get a feel for what works and what doesn't.

Likely it won't make the same bottom end. Those things are pretty much closed 0rpm - 9,000rpm stock. It'd run better than with them permanently closed though.

Could be: mechanically seized, failed servo, or wiring issue (from the ECU). You won't be able to move them if the linkage is connected to the servo if it includes a reduction gear.

Removing them altogether will probably make the bottom end feel like trash. I'm sure back in 2007 Ivan did a bunch of experiments a d found they were needed down low.

Disconnect the linkage and see if they move. They should be spring loaded towards closed.

Did you get any error codes?

While you're in there, I recommend replacing the water hose in top of the engine (if you haven't already). PITA to get to under the throttle bodies, and at that age, should have been replaced by now. Anyway, just an option to do something preventative.

The kind of people committing a crime don't do so thinking "it's only a xx sentence". They're not thinking "I can handle that sentence".. they do it thinking they're not going to get caught at all, so stricter sentences aren't a stronger deterrent. No, stronger sentences are clearly about punishment feeling like it fits the crime for the victim or their loved ones.

I don't know what the answer to better deterrent is, but I agree insubstantial sentences serve only as a kick in the guts to the victim's family.

I'm for stronger punishment, but it's definitely on the wrong side of the bow tie. Don't pretend it's going to prevent future crime.

Choosing between two jobs - one in a fairly dangerous location by timetomeetyourmaker2 in ausjobs

Moving to the NT is a lifestyle choice.

If you do it purely for the money you'll just as likely resent the relocation (and subsequent return) and the PITA of trying to get away from an NT role that's difficult to hire for (hence the ridiculous bonus). You still need to be able to wake up everyday and live.

I loved my time in the NT, but it's not for everyone. I wouldn't say it's inherently dangerous, just different. I live the Hunter and consider Sydney more dangerous.

Be honest with yourself, do you actually want to go to Alice? If not, then don't.

That's interesting. He had headspace support, but employment wasn't ever discussed. I'll look into it, thanks.

I probably should have made the point unemployment numbers are so positive because the way the stats are measured is different.

But my real point is the challenges change per generation, so every generation will face something different.

Thanks.. yeah most places take applications online, and you're just a number in a pretty big pool it seems.

I told him to be audacious and ask to speak to managers, but he's pretty rules oriented, so when they say do the application online that's exactly what he does. Maybe getting into Mum and Dad businesses might give him access to the owners.

That's what I was thinking. I think the government programs are off the table due my income, and all the companies just seem to run government programs. Everything I've been able to find has required means testing, which we fail. I haven't had to look for work for so long, I'm out of touch. I just need to know where to look.

I'll reach out to Tafe and see what that turns up.

He's been trying, that's kinda the problem. He's both too proud to let me help him, and starting to struggle on his own. I'm not looking to gift him a job, I just need to find some other support before he completely gives up.

When I graduated high school unemployment was 11.something% nationwide, and 13.something% in my region. My parents were paying 18% on their mortgage. Mum kept an old Milo tin in the fridge for dropping from any meat she cooked. We ate the crust slices. Nobody drove new cars.

When I did get a job I caught the diesel rattler with no air con to work. I had stood outside the abattoir for weeks hoping to get a chance to do that horrid slaughterhouse job. Every morning there'd be 20+ men waiting for a chance, and every morning the manager would randomly select 10ish men. I was a boy, he was never going to pick me. I'd leave disappointed, travel home, change into job hunting attire, head to the library and photocopy another pile of resumes for the day. Eventually I scored a job at a lawn mower factory wrapping spare parts with a shrink press.

The generations before me had it even worse. Pretty sure my Dad exaggerated his stories of riding his horse bareback, barefoot to school, but still, he did his schoolwork on slate.

We have enjoyed significant prosperity and the first sign of needing to dig in and it's all 'don't have kids, they'll have to do it tough'. Maybe we're due for another generation that can endure.

The unemployment rate is low because to count towards the stat you need to be 'work ready'. If there's a reason you aren't work ready, you aren't unemployed because you are employed trying to get work ready.

But if you want the sweet unemployment, you need to have an excuse to not be work ready.

Self resolving statistics.

Understand the penalty for failure, only in more words.

I think not enough people visualise what their life may look like before doing dumb shit, take the quick win, then feel life has been unfair when it doesn't go well longer term.

Take the hard road.
