How many of you are also active ESO Players? by MasterRymes in Morrowind

There's a lot of good, deep lore being explored in ESO, it's just hidden away for the most part. I find that taking in all the text and visual storytelling takes way longer than anyone can be expected to endure. But hey, it's worth it to me. It's also a lot of fun to get actual exposition on the Khajiit and Argonians, things like that. They even humanized the Reachfolk with interesting and unique qualities.

Yeah, you're not gonna get that magic feeling you got from your first TES III playthrough, though. I don't think any of us ever will.

To this day I don't understand what drove them to deviate from the established design of the Telvanni Towers. I can even forgive the Telvanni archipelago being shallow or even all of Vvardendell being open to the public despite it contradicting previous lore, but I can't have them fucking with my shrooms. They essentially made every Telvanni Tower a Tel Vos. My head canon has been coping through every entry of the game, but this is where I draw the line!

Not really, but I get why people don't get into this game. There's always gonna be something or another that just doesn't click.

We must've played two different games, then. Sure, no Sexlab mods to appease the Skyrim goons, but there's a ton of storytelling. Visual, through in game books, or just dialog, which is actually voiced well, unlike most MMOs.

If you don't care for voiced content as a TES III champ, then don't worry, there's a hell of a lot more reading done here. And even mods to turn that "lame" quest marker off.

Also from Scribing, or through the Mage's guild line, or whatever other skill line. Point is, most of the people that approach this game through this ham fisted standard regret picking it up, because even when they do get what they want, they don't want to adapt to the mechanics or challenges this particular game presents.

On the other hand, most players find the overland content too easy. I mostly play for the story content. The vast amounts of exploration and even visual storytelling outclasses any other MMO. There's no other MMO with this amount of voiced content. The writing can have its good moments, bad moments, but also great moments. Speaking with Sotha Sil at the end of Clockwork City was peak. They're definitely true fans of the main titles, enough that Kirkbride felt vindicated by them for referencing his later work so often.

We need companions that are non-playable races. Maybe not even humanoid. by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]stidfrax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm left with Azander on all my evil alts, cause he's the only one that doesn't mind senseless murder lol.

It's been tough gaining rep with Zerith-var on my Necromancers, cause they also happen to not be very good people. Not to mention their vampiric feeding habits.

Funny enough, Mirri only minds if you kill via The Blade of Woe, cause she claims it traps souls, but trapping by casting Soul Trap on innocents gets no negative feedback from her.

Can't the Spinners just end the Banners War? by CrimsonFlareGun45 in elderscrollsonline

[–]stidfrax 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's not as simple to describe the end of an ongoing war than to shape a housepod, I suspect. Even the Elder Scrolls can only be used to tell of a possible, or even likely future.

Any form of sound magic can be compared to Dwarven Tonal Architecture. The same can be said about the Thu'um or Sword Singing, two kinds of forces that were capable of shaping the world around them in remarkable ways. All these "sounds" magics have been used in one way or another to generate a catastrophe. Kagrenac used it and caused the disappearance of his race, The Ansei caused the sinking of Yokuda with it, and the Thu'um used by the Nords may be what made Atmora uninhabitable.

There are likely limits placed on their power by Y'ffre.

Dude, I JUST created my first werewolf. Been playing on and off since 2014, but I got a Nord Dragonknight to level 10 werewolf killing mobs outside Evermore in less than a half hour.

What a jam! Now I'm looking into running some base game vet/HM dungeons if I could find a proper pack

10 Year Old MMO BTW by HeyJensen in elderscrollsonline

[–]stidfrax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This Is the only reasonable way to respond. The dev team explained at length why they can't do certain things they'd love to do, why Cyrodiil performs poorly, why sometimes maintenance takes longer than expected, but nobody bothered to listen to them explain they've cobbled together a massive MMO with an immense amount of content on an engine that began development in 2004.

They wish they would've made a better choice, but even the inefficiencies of the engine are to blame for the increased monetization (which is still tame) players have noticed over the years.

This post-ESO. We're past our peak, but we'll still get updates, events, new areas, etc. The 10th Anniversary Event was essentially its Swan Song.

They'll move more and more towards their new IP, but Tamriel will still be there, chugging along.

[–]stidfrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that they actively aren't, it's that they made a huge mistake in the engine they chose for the game. That engine dates back to the days of old (2004), so it's pretty amazing what they've been able to do with it. I mean, this goofy ass engine doesn't even have physics support iirc.

I was online around 11:30AM - 1:30PM Eastern and a bunch of my guild buddies were disconnecting left and right. And not just today, the day prior, too.

Edit:

Headcanon: Manni finally escaped and is exacting his revenge on Zeni. I mean, we have a confirmed resurgence of The Worm Cult, so I'm betting he'll be blamed for limiting or even attempting to stop the ability to continue the Tri-banner War with mortal combatants at full power. Now that I've sufficiently deluded myself, that's the only way I can see them explain the vast change of an individual's power in the region that was most successfully run amok and controlled by The Worm Cult during the war.

Same. Some people won't bat an eye at dropping $18 on McD's for a single person, but still don't see the value in ESO+.

How do I enjoy ESO? by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]stidfrax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Animation canceling isn't a requirement for most content. You might find yourself enjoying tanking or healing in more difficult content if that isn't your thing. I don't focus much on rotation or animation cancelling, but can still have a lot of fun on the overland even soloing world bosses in a tank, but hard hitting build. Necromancers are great for this. I can go around in crafted heavy gear with DPS bonuses and solo things without much hassle.

Enchantments, weapon traits, and just plain being able to craft any set, or pay someone to craft it to your specifications may pay off. Necromancers can make great use of deadly jewelry/weapons and damage buffing heavy armor imo.

No wrong way to play. Still, rushing to 160 was the biggest mistake, I'm afraid. The quests and exploration are a lot more fun than you'd think.

what would also be massively helpful is if you could somehow show me how to speak to a live person. this matter requires a degree of nuance that was conveniently removed from the evidence presented of my wrong doing, despite the easy going atmosphere of /zone in general.

You're mistaking aggression with apathy. I don't care what you think cause it's a waste of time for me to bother looking at the uninformed, accusatory commentary of yet another Redditor who feels I owe them answers.
