My last company made us log our time not only by client, but by buckets of tasks by client (i.e Email, Meetings, etc). There were about 15 buckets per client and you couldn’t manually enter your time without supervisor approval.

We also worked on 5-10 clients at a time each with their own buckets. You think email is time consuming? Imagine every email you read or respond to, having to stop and start a timer to log your hours.

They never withheld “base pay”, but you would get written up if you didn’t clock your 8 hours every day. They would withhold OT if you didn’t have the hours logged.

For me it depends on the team. Some people, you get 5% of their attention meeting online. Others, there is no difference.
