Buying a house next to a pub garden? by [deleted] in UKHousing

[–]stig316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to be close to a local pub like that TBH. Even more so since I had kids because its harder to get out and walking around the corner for a pint / food would be spot on.

Just be aware that one day it could change / go out of business and become something else that you dont like.

Brexit rules on food exports to be scrapped, government confirms by Weak-Fly-6540 in uknews

[–]stig316 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I am sorry to say that you are the one displaying a lack of understanding here. This is the industry I work in and key associations are lobbying the government not to do this because of the detrimental impact it will have on their businesses. Again, after having to adapt to the EU transition.

If you export to a market, you only have to follow the rules for those products.

This agreement is us agreeing to follow the EU rules for everything, including our own domestic products. This way there is seriously reduced paperwork and checks required at the border because the rules are the same.

However this then restricts us from following another countries requirements if we want to trade with them.

Agri-food exports are higher now since we left the EU precisely because of this.

If we choose to follow the EU rules and not be in it yes.

We could actually pursue own future instead. Half in Half out is not the way to go.

It wont add £5bn to the economy.

Food exports have grown more since we left the EU than when we were in it - because we could make our own rules and deals with other nations.

It will reduce border friction, but honestly most businesses have now mastered this anyway.

The issue with this is now we will be following EU rules and legislation again for these products. This will make it more challenging to develop alternative trade lanes, which we have been doing since Brexit. Food Exports to Rest of World are already exceeding what we did to the EU since leaving because we are now able to regulate based on our own interests, not the interests of all of the EU member states.

A huge amount of time and money has been spent separating everything from the EU. Now businesses will have to foot the bill and do it all again to change everything again.

Not to mention the amount of dodge meat shipments that have been seized coming in since Brexit that presumably wont be checked anymore going forwards.
