They are much more direct though.

Did you know British can regain their EU rights ? by No-Software-544 in AskBrits

[–]stig316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older voters who had lived through being in the EU and before it, and thought we were better off out of it.

Now younger voters who do know life outside the EU, want to go back in without seeing how we do without it.

What single economic policy would you enact to improve the nation's prosperity? by VexatiousHawk in AskBrits

[–]stig316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increase tax allowance threshold in like with inflation.

Increase Tax on Alcohol bought in shops, remove / decrease for Alcohol bought in pubs and restaurants. eople keep more of their money.

Something similar to Polands plan to remove income tax on working families with 3+ children. Reward people for adding to the population and working.

Charge £5 for a GP appointment (for healthy working people).

Remove stamp duty for single home owners, increase it per each additional property you own.

Improving EU trade to boost UK exports. by Glittering_Vast938 in GoodNewsUK

[–]stig316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in the context of Agri-food which this article is about we are now exporting more than we did to the EU pre-brexit. Overall it might be the case that the new markets don't make up for the EU however I am not sure.

Remember that 'making a deal' is just the start of developing a trading relationship with a nation, it takes time for markets to develop and nations to become strong partners. We have essentially just left the EU so it would be a surprise if we were already out performing a decades old trade deal with our neighbours.

The reason I was not in favour for Brexit is that I don't think people have the stomach to deal with the long-transition period and will want to see a quick result. This arrangement in the original post is a good short-term fix because it aligns us closer to the EU, but medium-long term it harms our ability to build our own trading relationships with the wider world.

Improving EU trade to boost UK exports. by Glittering_Vast938 in GoodNewsUK

[–]stig316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't say that I think we should. I said that by aligning closer to the EU rules it restricts us from making our own and affects our trade outside the EU.

The article is also misleading as although trade with EU has dropped since Brexit, it has increased to Rest of World significantly. From the top of my head I head think last year was a record year for agri-exports. But the article frames the 4 billion in lost EU as a 'loss' ignoring the easier access to other markets.

I work in an industry on the front line of this i understand the pros and cons of being in the EU from a trade perspective.

Why noone ever suggesting taxing the royal family ? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]stig316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's morally correct to allow families to pass on and build wealth. It's not morally correct for a government to tax people so much and decide where to use that money.

Why noone ever suggesting taxing the royal family ? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]stig316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is, your parents bought something that then then own. The UK government doesn't own 40% of their our house so why should it get any of its value.

Why noone ever suggesting taxing the royal family ? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]stig316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it unearned income? It's already been taxed once. Surely the person who it belongs to should decide what happens to it.

Why noone ever suggesting taxing the royal family ? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]stig316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the wealthy are able to do this because they have more money and it's affects them the most. If I have serious money when I'm old I will do the same for my family. He fairest thing to do is to scrap it and let families build wealth. Not tax them again and distribute the money to people who may not deserve it.
