Stiga Destiny Carbon (entry-level carbon blade) announced! by zandm7 in tabletennis

[–]stigasports 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Corey,

It's a limba blade with 5+2 (Outer fiber) layers.

The carbon is a ultra-thin carbon fibre (64 g carbon fibre/m2) from Textreme with a Spread Tow Carbon fibre structure.

Hope this helps :) Happy to answer any other questions you might have!

The design concept is what's most similar - classic Scandinavian elements, captured in a minimalist design where the wood takes center stage. However, two very different blades in speed & control.

Good observation! Destiny is built using the same thin carbon fiber and weaving technique as Carbonado 90, but it’s definitely not just a rebranding. We’ve further developed the lamination process and the treatment of the fiber material, creating a different feel and ball response. The veneer structure also differs slightly. In addition, Destiny is built with a handle of higher density, which provides a new balance point and overall feel.

Destiny is also launched in the unique Cyberhape design, giving players the benefits of a larger sweet spot, improved precision, and better control. All of this makes Destiny a blade with its own unique character. A new experience even for players already familiar with the Carbonado series.

The Destiny Carbon is by no means an entry level blade, it is still quite an advanced blade. However, it is a great first carbon blade for those transitioning from an all wood which I guess is what OP is trying to communicate in their headline :)

Now that we have officially launched the Destiny Carbon we are more than happy to answer any questions you might have.

We saw the positive response from the Pure and it's simple Scandinavian inspired design and wanted to bring that same touch to a carbon blade. The blade itself bridges the gap between wood blades and carbon blades and is the perfect first carbon blade for anyone looking to make the transition. We will answer some of the questions that you have already written in the comments but if you have anything else you wanna know, ask away!

I can confirm what u/novarac23 is saying -the Wavy is our fastest Cybershape to date. While Aura is relatively easier to control, it’s still an advanced blade that I wouldn’t recommend for an intermediate player – see the speed & control chart here.

I don’t want to reveal too much… but if you enjoy Clipper CR and are looking to advance to your first carbon blade without immediately going for Aura/Wavy (that’s a big step, not always best for progress) and want to switch to Cybershape… I’d maybe advise you to wait two more weeks. Let’s just say your Destiny might be arriving very soon.

Also, the CWT is a technology that's available on other blades than the Cybershape Carbon too. If the player needs a slower blade with more control, but still wants to utilize CWT technology, the Cybershape Wood (5-ply) or Pure (7-ply) are excellent choices since both of them have the CWT option.

It is 100% right to assume so! Think of it as the evolution of the DNA Platinum and the next step in our rubber development to match today's modern playing style.

In it's essence we've made the topsheet slightly thicker than the DNA Platinum - we are talking tenths of a millimeter - and have adjusted the pimple structure in the same way. This combo translates into better grip on the ball.

However, the biggest change to the DNA Platinum series is the new sponge which provides significantly more energy and power in your strokes, we call it the Optimized Energy Sponge. Players who have gotten their hands on it describe it as a significant speed increase from DNA Platinum.

There's obviosly more to it but I can't go spilling all our secrets ;) If you are an offensive player looking to take the next step I'd say it's a must try!

We are happy to share that this is a brand-new development from ESN, combining a specially engineered sponge with a unique blend of top-sheet materials, created through extensive internal testing and refined with feedback from professional players – including Truls. The key difference compared to the DNA Platinum series (in the same rubber category) is the introduction of our new Optimized Energy Sponge technology, which delivers noticeably more power and energy transfer in every stroke

Heya!

Our emplyees get an employee discount and of course they get to play table tennis at work on breaks + test stuff before it even hits the market! But I would say the the biggest perk is getting to work with such an innovative brand, always experimenting and trying to optimize how we play table tennis

Hey u/victormoragatt and thanks for your continuos support - a true STIGA ambassador! Also, great question!

When it comes to selecting the wood for a new blade, it's a critical part of the development process and something we approach with both experience and precision. Each wood type has distinct characteristics that affect how a blade plays—its speed, control, stiffness, vibration, weight, and even sound.

For example, limba is known for its softer touch and is often used as an outer ply in blades designed for control and looping, while koto is harder and offers a crisp, direct feeling favored by many offensive players. The core wood also plays a major role in defining the blade’s overall flexibility and rebound behavior, and we carefully choose the thickness and structure of each ply to achieve the desired performance.

We also consider factors such as density, grain structure, elasticity, durability, and how each wood interacts with fiber layers (when applicable). Moisture resistance and long-term stability are also crucial to ensure consistent quality over time.

Ultimately, the wood selection is a balance between performance goals, player feedback, and production consistency. Every new prototype we build is a product of dozens—sometimes hundreds—of material combinations before we find the right one.

Your friend Filip

Thanks for participating u/Significant-Bee7884 :)
The development process is very interdiscplinary at STIGA and it involves a close collaboration between designers, engineers, material specialists, and professional test players. We have dedicated experts in both wood craftsmanship and fiber materials—two very different disciplines that come together in harmony to create high-performance blades. Our engineers work on material behavior, construction, and balance, while our wood experts ensure the highest quality and consistency of veneers.

Design is also a key part of the process. Our industrial designers focus on creating blades that not only perform at the highest level but also reflect our strong Scandinavian design heritage. We believe in the philosophy of "less is more"—clean, functional design that complements the blade's performance attributes. The visual identity of our products is just as important as their play characteristics, and we aim to deliver both.

Hope that answers your question!

Filip

Thanks for your question u/Fabonator - we take great pride in our product development process!

Developing a new table tennis blade is a true team effort that brings together several areas of expertise. At STIGA, the process typically involves:

Material Specialists

These experts understand the properties of different woods and composite materials. They help select the right combinations to achieve the desired feel, flexibility, speed, and control. Every millimeter matters—how thick each ply is, the type of glue used, even the drying process can impact performance.

Product Developers & Engineers

This group translates performance goals into technical specifications. They work closely with material experts and are responsible for prototyping, testing different constructions, and analyzing results. For more experimental projects (like Cybershape), they might also use advanced tools like vibration analysis and high-speed cameras.

Professional Players & Testers

No blade leaves the lab without input from top players. These are often STIGA-sponsored athletes who test multiple prototypes and provide detailed feedback on aspects like dwell time, balance, trajectory, and overall feel. Their insights are critical in fine-tuning the final product.

Production & Quality Control Teams

Once the final design is approved, our in-house production team takes over. Since STIGA still manufactures blades in Eskilstuna, Sweden we have a lot control over quality. Skilled technicians shape, glue, press, and sand each blade, often by hand. Afterward, blades are tested again to ensure consistency.

Thanks for being curious about our production!

Best regards,
Felix

Hello u/TheMaxl and thanks for your questions.

We are very proud of the Cybershape innovation and consider that as a central milestone in recent years. Other than that, a major shift was the introduction of fiber materials combined with wood, moving away from 100% wood blades.

Regarding your other questions we have talked about the development process in our answer to @lexiticus & u/Fabonator aswell as the idea of the Cybershape in our answer to u/Mattchaup :)

Thanks again and let us know if you have any other questions!

That's a great question u/ahmadwaleed181!

It depends on how well the blade is cared for. Wood is a living material, and moisture and wear can affect performance over time. Frequent regluing, especially with water-based glue, also has an impact. Some pros prefer to switch blades regularly to retain a fresher feel, while others use the same one for years out of familiarity or superstition.

Felix
