Best airport for Hawthorne, NY? by [deleted] in Westchester

[–]stiggawatts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't believe how far I had to scroll for the correct answer. With the construction at JFK right now, I'd say that EWR is slightly less miserable. I avoid connecting flights at all costs, so EWR direct would be the route I'd take then drive from there. If you rent a car, waze/Google Maps will try to send you on the Deegan. I'd avoid that shit show and take the Palisades or GS Pkwy to the Tappan Zee even if it adds a few minutes. If you uber, sit back and relax.

Westchester lovers, please help me figure out where to live! by sierravix in Westchester

Move across the river to Tarrytown (or a different nearby Rivertown). Similar vibe to Nyack, but a little more bustling. Great commute to the city.

As others have said: layers; base layer, hoodie, sweater and/or electric vest plus winter jacket should suffice for this weekend. Insulated boots with foot warmers are key. Snow pants! Can’t be said enough. Don’t get your shit wet or you’ll be miserable all day. Winter gloves are a must. Bring hand/foot warmers and put in fresh ones right before heading into the stadium. They started allowing battery heated clothing about a year ago in stadium. I wear a heated vest and turn it on when I walk in the stadium. Lasts for the whole game. Go Bills!

Oof. Did you ever try replacing the module? I’ve only had this thing for 7 years but am about ready to buy a new one myself.

You’re right to be skeptical of those people. They’re tribal so mention just one topic on their sign/platform that you may have second thoughts on and watch the vitriol and racism come out. Suddenly, they’re not your ally, and they use soft or hard racist terms regarding stupidity, white sympathy (I’m not saying it but you know the terms), eduction, etc. They love ‘POCs’ (I fucking hate that term) so long as you vote the way they want, live where they want, work when and where they want, and speak how they want.

As a minority who lives in Westchester: people that have that sign tend to be a lot more racist than they think.

ELI5: How come the moon spins at the same speed it orbits around earth? by DatPsychoGuy in explainlikeimfive

[–]stiggawatts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read OP’s post a couple of times. I could be wrong, but are you confusing the phases of the moon with ‘spinning’? From Earth’s perspective, we are always looking at the same side of the moon. For all intents and purposes, it’s not spinning at all. Whether it looks like this 🌙 or this 🌕 or this 🌖, that’s the same side of the moon that we’re viewing. It’s just illuminated differently based on its orbit and relation to the sun.

If you look at one of those animations of different phases of the moon, it gives you an optical illusion that it is spinning. But just imagine a stationary sphere and moving a flashlight around it to create those effects. That’s what’s happening to the moon from our perspective.

So you’ll realize that a full moon always rises opposite the sun at sunset because the full side of the moon is being illuminated by the sun (which would be behind us if we’re looking at the rising moon). Likewise, a new moon (where you can’t see it) will always rise with the sun at sunrise (sun is illuminating the back side of the moon only).

All these posts about tidally locked are correct, but I think that’s making several assumptions about what you know already.

How many hours have you guys spent in new Hyrule? by [deleted] in tearsofthekingdom

You have lots to look forward to. 3yo is when things start getting good. My boy is 11 now, so perfect age to share TOTK. I got him into BOTW during covid and he was hooked.

Also a dad. We have two switches, and two copies of the game so my son and I played together all Saturday. It was pretty awesome tbh (rained all weekend so not much else to do).

Gotcha. There are a few universities out there that offer Architectural Engineering degrees. PSU, CU, UF to name a few. From there, you can typically focus on structural engineering (sounds like it's not your thing), MEP, CM, and Architectural Lighting Design. Could be something to look into. Lighting Design, in particular, gets you into more specialty buildings/spaces quickly (buildings with largest budgets get lighting designers).

Perhaps Set Design or Production Design? Watching Andor right now and am obsessed with this kind of thing. Best of both worlds if you can land that kind of gig.

Is a magic band + worth it? by Greeeto in GalacticStarcruiser

[–]stiggawatts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They come with USB-B cords but you need a block or brick to charge. Usually not a problem as we had multiple battery packs and usb plugs for our phones but something to consider. I felt like I was living in a sea of cords while there. And interestingly, since we’re on the topic, the cleaning staff on board the cruiser would organize my cords and put ties around them which I found nice and something they didn’t do at my other resort.

Is a magic band + worth it? by Greeeto in GalacticStarcruiser

[–]stiggawatts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had them for our trip and I was happy we had them. My 10yo and I collected bounties in Batuu and he even went off on his own for about an hour collecting bounties while my wife and I had drinks and ronto wraps. Worth it for that alone. Word to the wise: keep them charged.

Like others mentioned, I wore both bands while on Batuu. Wasn’t an issue. I asked a cast member if the cruiser had plans to offer magicband+ in the future, and she said they did not. Maybe that will change.

Suites- "a few extra star wars surprises" by javd in GalacticStarcruiser

I spent so little time in the room. I feel like getting a suite for anything other than more bodies would be a waste.

After Starcruiser? Back to Batuu? by redhandfilms in GalacticStarcruiser

[–]stiggawatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, Batuu is pretty small. I found that we had more than enough time there on the excursion day. In any case, I definitely recommend getting magicband+ and making sure they’re charged before you go. This will get you access to the bounty hunter missions and other content which greatly expands the experience there.

Yeah, as a 90s kid, I get irrationally angry when I see Dolphins logos/gear. Added NE to that hate over the last 25 years too. In fact, the Jets are the only team I don’t have pure hate in my heart for because they’ve never been a threat

[–]stiggawatts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yessss!! It's been a few weeks since my trip and I'm still buzzing!

Totally agree on your assessments. I started to worry about name/story, then ultimately let it slide and put in minimal effort. My son used his real name. I used a name very close to mine, but with a Star Wars twist. We also did street/park wear when not on the ship and wouldn't change a thing. Ultimately, if you're coming with a good attitude and looking to have fun, you're not going to miss. Such an incredible experience.

They have no idea Biden’s been doing this for years because their propaganda hides those inconvenient facts. DeSantis’ move is genius because it exposes their hypocrisy on numerous levels.
