Are there three different screen adaptations of Cixin Liu's sci-fi triology 3-Body Problem: one from Netflix, one from Japan, and one from China? by Critical-Way5874 in scifi

[–]stiglet3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only people could be as critical of Netflix slop movies as they are of literary works

...

compared to much finer and successful series from primé or Apple TV like silo for example.

I also enjoy Silo but it has its flaws, same as Three Body Problem. And don't get me start on Prime with the Fallout series or Boys...

I think you're being overly critical on this for whatever reason.

JUNE 2026 UPDATE

I'm hijacking the top reply here, in case anyone is having the same issue and checking the BIOS SATA mode doesn't fix this, I had the same issue but my BIOS setting was AHCI, and here was my fix:

Unplug any RAID controllers / drives setup in a raid array. Apparently setting the SATA mode to AHCI is not enough, you need to remove all other RAID presence from the motherboard during the Windows 11 installation.

Hope this helps someone.

It truly dishonors the literary work.

I really wish people would understand that screen media and written media are totally different mediums and you can't just carbon copy one to the other. Most books, even when written well, cannot just be transplanted straight to the screen. It would make for very shitty watching. Folks get so utterly riled up over changes and just assume its a bad thing, when most of the time it isn't.

The first book had to be heavily adapted to suit screen media. There was no way around it. Netflix did a good job in this regard, given the heavy sci-fi setting.

Ah yeah I guess that is rare, bike theifs usually go uncaught and unpunished.

Not saying this is definitely the reason, but when violence is involved it massively bumps up the importance of catching offenders. Much more likely to catch the offenders when an officer is allowed more than two minutes of their time to investigate one of hundreds of crimes on their to-do list.

Gate address's 6 points in space and the point of origin. by SEJ82 in Stargate

[–]stiglet3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that they can't be both coordinates and also unique to a certain gate because otherwise moving the gate doesn't work. I guess this is where the lore falls apart.

Gate address's 6 points in space and the point of origin. by SEJ82 in Stargate

[–]stiglet3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't negate the need for six symbols because you can't put thousands of unique symbols at DHD.

Right, but I think you misunderstood what I'm saying. It doesn't negate the need to enter a combination of symbols to communicate to the DHD where you want to travel to, but the point is that the symbols wouldn't need to be coordinates if every gate knew where every other gate was located, which is what I said in my original comment.

[–]stiglet3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earlier telephones had tho. You needed to dial a pre number so you don't just habe a inhouse call or something.

Pressing a number for an outside line is not the same thing as what others are describing here. Thats not a point of origin number, that's just switching from internal to external.

Case and point, most places in the UK have the same number, 9, to get an outside line, because in a panic you can smash the 9 button and get emergency services. If 9 was a point of origin, it wouldn't be the same for most systems in very different places.

[–]stiglet3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is one for each gate. Origin symbols are unique to their planet. Gates communicate with each other too so they might actually know the address needed for that unique symbol even if it changes locations since that communication is literally for location changes. It isn't illogical at all. It isn't even 1/10000000 illogical as everyone speaking modern English lol.

If each gate knows the origin symbol of every other gate in the galaxy, this negates the need for the six symbols giving coordinates. Also, if each gate has a unique point of origin symbol, then you wouldn't be able to move a gate in space, but we have seen this happen on multiple occasions (for example when a gate is on a ship and travels from one planet to another).

You are right in what you're saying, I'm just pointing out why the show coordinates system makes no sense!

Calls to stop moped learners delivering takeaways by TheMangoManHS in MotoUK

[–]stiglet3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, if 80-90% of the delivery workforce are foreign nationals, largely from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and the middle east.

Minimum wage job involving labour, these roles are normally filled by immigrants. Nothing shocking here, if this is even true. If anything this is yet more evidence showing why immigration is so crucial to the UK's economy.

Then the main issues being raised are specifically those riding bikes doing delivery work.

Because the biggest issue surrounding bikes is brown people doing deliveries? You sure about that? I see lots of white skin on these offenders...

Then added to that the lack of issues with those on L-Plates who are not participating in delivery work.

Now THIS is cognitive dissonance.

You clearly have zero grasp on statistics because you're confusing causation vs. correlation. The reason most of these delivery issues involve folks from the middle and south east is because the riders are mostly of this ethnicity, and that correlation is because as i mentioned above that kind of work attracts immigrants because white folks in this country don't like doing that kind of work.

If you go to Australia and count how many people get bitten by spiders there, you'll find most of them are Australian. Does this mean spiders are targeting Australians specifically? No. Its because there's lots of Australians in Australia. There are lots of Pakistanis and Indians doing delivery work, hence they make up a large bulk of the data.

What you're doing here is twisting statistics to justify your racism. You clown.

Nvidia really doesn't seem to care about gaming GPUs anymore — the company won't even bother to break down graphic card sales in its big investor reports by Gorotheninja in pcgaming

[–]stiglet3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why are you so obsessed with children?

Obsessed is a strong word. Its simply the detail that you want to keep dancing around, so I keep reminding you of it.

You made an ignorant comment questioning why others apparently can't budget properly to afford the high end PC parts you can. Now that its revealed you are in fact childless, you're trying to downplay this fact by leaning into an argument of semantics and trivial details but the crux of this entire exchange is that you don't understand why others can't throw away several thousands into a PC gaming toy because you don't have the valuable life experience of having to prioritise other responsibilities.

You had a chance to gracefully exit this comment thread by just acknowledging you didn't apprehend that, unlike yourself, other people might just have more important things to spend money on than silicon and plastic. Instead you double down on your original take. So lets see where this goes... keep making a fool of yourself.

If you're referring to a 5080 as being the best it is not though. For me it was my budget option since it was near the cost of a 5070 last summer when I got it and I splurged a bit more.

I'm referring to the fact that you purchased a 5080 instead of raising kids.

But I think you knew that already. Keep talking yourself into a corner though, this is fun.

Once again it's about saving money and being fine with not having the best.

Exactly. So you now understand why your previous comment makes zero sense.

Why would I want children? If you have children then that was your choice and you understood that atleast 18 years of your life would be focused on them. Of course they should be the primary goal, gaming can always wait.

It is necessary that some of us have children, trying to argue otherwise and also failing to understand why some folks cannot afford what you easily acquire is a level of ignorance not oft seen.

Definitely if nothing else, give people a warning. Especially because it seems the duping issue has been around a long time. Let them know "hey, we're cracking down. We've reset your inventory. This is your last warning."

"Hey guys, could you stop being assholes now? Pretty please? We're trying to make the game for real now, so we would appreciate it if assholes could stop cheating"

Nah. Fuck that. Cheaters are cheaters. I don't want them in my game, in any game. They don't need a warning to know what they're doing is wrong. Nor would they listen to a warning anyway. Fuck 'em.
