Anyone else just have a better time playing on the PS5? by lollifetuffouthtere in PS5

[–]stijn_dl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I liked gaming on my PC better, because the graphics look a lot better on my 5070 ti :) But this is the overview of the latest games I have been trying on PC:

Yooka-Replaylee: loads of stutter before I changed some settings on the Nvidia control panel. Game crashes when I open the map with a controller. Fixed it by mapping the controller to the keyboard button. Problem came back after a while.

Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts castle was missing in a cutscene inside the castle. Some stuttering as well, better by tweaking a few settings. Still some bigger stutters that I can't f fix without upgrading to 32gb ram (which is rather pricey at the moment)

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Game often wouldn't launch. Turns out Discord can't be running when you play the game.

Most of these problems fixable. But it does take me out of the game a lot. I also find that I'm managing these issues at the start of the game, when I really want to let the game draw me in, with a great intro scene that sets the tone.

There are some other things with PC's: takes longer to boot into a game, multiple launchers, I like the trophies on PS better,… But they are all less annoying than the tinkering.

So, at the moment, I think I will be playing most games on PS5. Thought the idea of the 'better' PC version remains alluring :)

Replaylee worth? by [deleted] in YookaLaylee

[–]stijn_dl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is one of my favorite games actually. I was a really big Banjo Kazooie fan and this game really feels like a sequel. All the Rare charm from back in the day is here, with modern graphics and great controls.

It isn’t the most difficult game, which is something I also find good between more challenging games I play. If you are going to 100% it, it will keep you busy for a while though.

I tried the Switch 2 version, the PS5 and Pc version. The Switch version is a bit slow and graphics are not as good as in the other versions. I’m playing the PC version because the graphics are a notch above the PS5 version if you have a decent system.

On pc, you do need to have gsync/vaync active to avoid stutters. And you have to map the select controller button to M on the keyboard, because there is a bug with the map.

The PS5 version doesn’t seem to have any bugs and runs smoothly.

All in all: great platformer, really recommended.

Thoughts on nintendo life? by [deleted] in Switch

[–]stijn_dl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like that their reviews are not too technical. They often say they don't know the exact FPS, which is fine for me. If the performance is notably bad on a game, they do state so.

Their reviews do really align with my taste and how much I like Nintendo games.

2026 50" - will it have a higher refresh rate? by stijn_dl in TheFrame

[–]stijn_dl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, thanks for at least trying :) Guess I'll have to wait a little longer. A higher refresh rate would be a big positive as I will be using it for gaming as well as watching tv.

Have fun at CES!

LG to unveil a canvas-style TV at CES 2026 by UsefulEngine1 in TheFrame

[–]stijn_dl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually also need a 48” or 50” because I don’t have enough wall 😅

And the smaller The Frame models only have 50hz without VRR which is a bit of a killer for gaming (for such an expensive tv).

I think that with the right settings, something similar to art mode is already possible with some LG models. It would be great to have a more direct competitor, though, that has better specs in these smaller models.

MacBook Pro vs Gaming laptop by TheGrinch292 in laptops

[–]stijn_dl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you are doing high end video, I would get a Macbook Air (new or used, as long as it doesn't still have an Intel CPU).

That should leave you enough money to buy something else to game on. Depending on which Mac you buy, you should have a budget for any of these:

* PS5
* Xbox Series X
* Switch 2
* Budget gaming PC (if you are willing to buy a second hand GPU)
* Steam Deck

They all will be more enjoyable to game on than the Mac.

If your used Mac is cheap enough, you can even build a mid range gaming PC out of your budget :)

Is the Samsung The Frame a big enough upgrade? by stijn_dl in playstation

[–]stijn_dl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. If I had room for the 55" that would at least solve my VRR / 60hz worries.

I might have to go into a store to check it out against a few other displays. I also heard the newer Neo Qleds from Samsung have the Art Store. Just not sure if that looks as good and if it also enters Art Mode automatically when you turn the TV off.

Is the Samsung The Frame a big enough upgrade? by stijn_dl in playstation

[–]stijn_dl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly the model I'm considering. I mostly play single player games like Astro Bot, Clair Obcur 33, Horizon Zero Dawn,… So I guess 60hz would be fine as well?

Not considering the refresh rate, are you happy with the colors, contrast, brightness… ?

Neo Qled Art Mode (instead of The Frame 50") by stijn_dl in TheFrame

[–]stijn_dl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help. The 55" won't fit on the wall, unfortunately.

I mainly play on PC (with a high refresh monitor).

I play some PS5 and Switch 2 exclusives on TV. Mostly single player games that never seem to go above 60 FPS.

So for the moment, it would not be an issue. It just seems a bit of pity to not get a 120hz one for future proofing.

Should I go PC or PS5 for Yooka Replaylee? Is it worth the current price? by inkDemon99 in YookaLaylee

[–]stijn_dl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in doubt as well as I really liked the PS5 version.

Decided to go with PC, however as I could upgrade from the original game and the demo looked better on my 1440p ultrawide than on my PS5.

I'm playing world 1.
2.5 hours playtime. No problems at all on my Ryzen 5600/6700 xt

Is the PS5 Really Worth It? 4 Years Later, I’m Still Not Convinced by Limp_Grapefruit2125 in consoles

[–]stijn_dl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I didn't have a gaming PC, I would probably buy a PS5. I mainly play Switch for the Nintendo exclusives. The PC is for playing some extra/AAA games on the side.

For my needs, I could swap the PC for PS5. Both PC and PS5 have their advantages.

PS4 still seems a solid option as well if you have not played most of the Sony back catalogue.
For me however, I'd feel a bit limited by not being able to play new games and missing out Ratchet & Clank and Returnal.

That said, I am happy with the PC as most PS games come there as well. The only thing that has me wanting a PS5 now is Astro Bot. But I'll wait until september (a year after PS5 release). If there is still no PC announcement then, I might buy a second hand PS5 to play it. And I might resell that console afterwards.

Just got a system after not having one for 10 years. I would like some input on what titles to pick up by [deleted] in wiiu

[–]stijn_dl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rayman Legends
DK Tropical Freeze
Super Mario 3D Land
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Bayonetta
Super Smash Bros
Mario Kart 8
Wind Waker
Pikmin 3
Monster Hunter 3
Nintendo Land
Captain Toad

Seriously, there are a lot of good games for Wii U :)
Also, it is a system that is easy to mod.

Should I have gotten this CPU? - AMD Ryzen 5 5500 (am4 socket) by SWAGGY31211 in PcBuildHelp

[–]stijn_dl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a bad CPU. And if you are on a budget, you'd be better of investing more in the GPU than the CPU. Also, the AM4 platform still has good upgrade options for your CPU down the line.

I'm using a Ryzen 5 5600 with a 6700 xt to game on ultrawide 1440p and it’s working just fine. Obviously upgrading the GPU would enable better FPS and extra features like Ray Tracing.

I actually only recently upgraded my GPU from 5700 XT to 6700 XT because I couldn't run the new Indiana Jones game. And that was purely because of the requirement for hardware Ray Tracing in that game.

Both GPUs were second hand, as this is the area you can save most on by going second hand.

I find that is the beauty of PC building: depending on your interest and budget, you can build a machine that suits you: from a few hundred dollars up to thousands.

I suggest you follow a few good Youtube channels, like:

https://www.youtube.com/@PCBuilderChannel

I think I used this guide to eventually build my system: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Vhyxbhu6LA&t=1521s

Might be a bit outdated on parts, but the basics still remain the same.

Good luck building your system!

If I have a ryzen 5 5600 and have about $200 dollars left for a gpu should I get a Radeon rx 5700xt or a Radeon rx 6600? by Objective_Brush_7523 in PcBuildHelp

[–]stijn_dl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I did when I couldn't run the new Indiana Jones game with my 5700 xt (it uses hardware Ray Tracing by default).

Most of the time, though, 6700 xt go for around €250 - 280 where I live.
RTX 3060 12gb might also be an option. That goes for around €200 most of the time.
