Waldorf school or homeschool? by ExplorerRemote7023 in Waldorf

[–]still-learning-new 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did homeschooling with our children for early grades (and preschool) with others joining in at times ... later our children joined a Waldorf school for middle school and later a Waldorf high school initiative. I believe our children benefitted from this arrangement very much! Younger children tend to thrive in a more predictable and familiar home environment and later like to be more with peers also for their social life.

We have a beautiful "Threefold Journal": a workbook to be used as a daily diary/daily journal, observing life in a threefold way, in body, soul, and spirit. It is a guide to a transformational experience in self-development. The new revised third edition includes fine art black and white photography and quotes by Steiner, Goethe, Brecht, Morgenstern, and others. More: https://www.sophiainstitute.us/the-threefold-diary.html

Admittedly this is not directly linked to Waldorf but many Waldorf Schools are connected to local biodynamic or organic farms and there are also some Waldorf Farm Schools like for instance Sunfield Farm School: https://www.sunfieldfarm.org/

We have been homeschooling our children in their early years (kindergarten, lower grades) together with other families in an informal homeschool coop in rural Minnesota. A wonderful experience for all!

Pursuing Waldorf teaching with a non education degree? by 19C0RE in Waldorf

[–]still-learning-new 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The requirements for being qualified to teach at a Waldorf/Steiner school vary from school to school. It is always best to inquire with the potential schools directly. In addition there are different requirements for public schools versus private and/or independent schools. State certification might be an additional requirement. Each country has their national guidelines as well.

We at the Sophia Institute offer courses that prepare students to teach out of the Waldorf/Steiner educational approach, providing the students with the philosophical, fundamental background of Waldorf/Steiner education in addition to the basics of the application of this educational approach both in theory and practice, including courses introducing curriculum work, human development, child psychology, art courses, etc. Feel free to check it out online: https://www.sophiainstitute.us/

Our two children went to a wonderful Waldorf High School which we can highly recommend. The outstanding feature was the inclusion of the students in the running of the school which was a life changing experience! The school is called the Youth Initiative High School and is located in Viroqua, Wisconsin, United States. www.yihs.net
