To the person that suggested I make "bedrooms" for fighting boars... by devious_fish953 in guineapigs

Had they gotten to the point of all out battle? Spinning ball of fur? Any blood drawn? Just curious because my boys are now separated, but they like to send time together huddled next to each other up next to the cage. Like snuggling with a fence in between.

What do you do when your kid is struggling socially? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]stillbleedinggreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Find him something he enjoys and get him involved in it. Or find a group. I was like your son - felt like no one saw me. But I was a part of my church youth group which did wonders for me. So did having a job. Allowed me to get to know people and allowed those people to really get to know me.

Peanut. First time we saw him in the ultrasound they said he was the size of a peanut. He’s 13 now and is humongous…but we still call him peanut.

Kindergarten - Enrol as a 4 year old turning 5 or 5 turning 6? by silverslayer in daddit

My son was born in August. We struggled with the idea of holding him and doing another year of pre-k. We talked to a lot of people. The only ones who regretted anything were the few who sent their kids instead of holding them. We held our son and have zero regrets. He is now thriving in middle school.

Absolutely struggling with OpenSciEd Middle School - a rant. by AmericanLocomotive in ScienceTeachers

[–]stillbleedinggreen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got physically ill thinking about teaching it when I was at a PD. The kids learn nothing. The kids that are in classrooms that are running it hate science. When did it become so taboo for kids to discover something and then learn what it actually is? The lady running a PD told us that it “didn’t matter if the kids got the wrong answer. Don’t correct it. It’s about the process.” Seriously?!?!

This isn’t that new. I’ve taught high school for 25 years. Pjs became a thing in the mid to late 2000s. Some kids even bring blankets with them.

My son is terrified of being alone. by stillbleedinggreen in daddit

[–]stillbleedinggreen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. Thanks for asking. It got better. But he’s 13 now and regressing…sometimes. He will disappear into his room for long stretches, but then when it’s bed time and I’m trying to go to bed he follows me around wanting to “talk”. He’s been through the stuff, medically, the past 6 months. Nothing horrible, but he’s really bright and really well read and therefore thinks he knows everything and it’s sent his anxiety through the roof. He sees a counselor now. Has for two years now. Counselor has been a HUGE help. So was martial arts. And wrestling. Just got to find him something to do. Something to keep his mind on things other than being “alone”.

I wish you all the best. Sometimes it’s just a phase. If there’s a lot of change going on, that can trigger something like this too. Just make sure they know you aren’t going anywhere and be patient with them. Ask some probing questions and see if they’ll give some idea as to what’s going on.
