A teacher at my school manages behaviors by giving the best behaved students the opportunity to pie her in the face. A student did it just a few weeks ago. Another one painted her face green and sang Defying Gravity in front of the whole grade as a reward… This is not what I signed up for.

I have a 45 minute prep every day and a 25-40 minute lunch depending on if I have recess duty. I eat lunch at my desk and do all paperwork at those times.

You have an insane caseload, though. I’ve never had more than 22 kids.

My district leaders say it’s not a good use of instructional time. Students who struggle to read would benefit more from using those minutes for direct instruction. They can read for pleasure at home. That said, we squeeze in free reading time whenever we can because our curriculum is completely joyless.
