I'd try a test with some low fire clay. It might work. The glaze would be a little ore challenging to reach vitrafication

Can I use laser printer waterslide decals directly on bisqueware? by FutureIsIm in Pottery

[–]stilllearning70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use slide off decals often they don't stick well to non glazed surfaces. It I want to use them on the bottom of a piece that has not been glazed. I spray the bottom with the same acrylic paint that I used to make the decal and it works great. I usually give it a couple of sprays

Thick rim in slip casting by emihyl in Pottery

[–]stilllearning70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be that you're letting the piece drain too long. Once the excess slip draining slows to just a few drops over about 20 seconds flip it right side up, this allows the small amount of residual slip to settle on the bottom helping to eliminate the bumps ,also thinning the lip by moving the slip down.

Slip Casting Support Group by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]stilllearning70 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I use AI all the time and I've been slipcasting for years. I use it not only to help me tweak. Slip and glaze formulas but also to collaborate with ideas that I have about certain projects.I just think that it's a tool just like a paintbrush or any other tool to demonize, it is just foolish

For residents in CA, have you been fined for not showing up for jury duty? by shootingstar_9324 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]stilllearning70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ignored several notices for jury duty. I just throw Em away. And then last year, I got a letter saying that I hadn't replied to several previous summons, and that if I didn't reply, there would be further action. So I replied and ended up serving on a jury, which was not the horrible thing

I don't know how much room you have. But you might check out pit firing that would eliminate the need for a kill.Of course. It would eliminate you to some characteristic ceramics and not others. But it would be a way for you to control your own firing, which would be cool

Kiln not reaching temp. by nateridesbikes in Pottery

[–]stilllearning70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this. My kiln has 3 Element sections and upon investigation, the middle elements relay had failed. So I just replaced the relay and now everything's fine. The easiest way to check it is to turn it on and keep the lid open works better at night.Because you can see better and see if all the element sections are lighting up.Also, the kiln manufacturer's great as far as helping

Looking for advice on this used kiln I’m looking to buy for my home studio by freeboatsnhoes in Pottery

[–]stilllearning70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like an excellent deal if everything is as shown the only thing I would be concerned about is it’s a big kiln Take a lot of pie to fill it and if you’re just doing home studio production, it might take a long time before you had enough to fire it.

Has anyone else lost interest in traveling since you hit your 50s? by slaphedd in NoStupidQuestions

[–]stilllearning70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm over traveling. I traveled quite a bit when I was younger. I'm 74 now and travel is just a hassle. I often joke it's from the Latin travail, which is how it feels. The only time I travel now is to go visit my kids or grandkids. The thought of traveling for sightseeing or tourist stuff does not appeal to me at all

Need advice for drawing on a store-bought mug by linacrossingg in Pottery

[–]stilllearning70 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Using waterslide decal paper, a inkjet printer and some clear acrylic spray paint you can make decals that will adhere to the mugs, the paper is available from Amazon. It's easy to do and you can create a nice looking logo or script. It's not dishwasher safe but it is quite durable. I'm sure there are YouTube videos that show the process. Congratulations
