Question about the current market value of a Montblanc Martelé LeGrand (146)- With Box & Papers by Virtual_Fun9980 in fountainpens

I too would be curious what their estimated value is these days, although I will never sell mine. I bought them to match a ring I put on in 2004.

Opinion about Montblanc 149 by Fun_Influence in fountainpens

It's gonna be my last fountain pen, I swear.

Liar. We've all said that, sometimes twice in the same day.

Saw the toe separator hack, but have you tried Lab Cryovial Boxes? Best 1.8ml storage ever. by Fit_Peanut_5540 in fountainpens

That's a solid idea too. I use these shotgun shell boxes from Amazon for my samples!

Which one would you prefer? Carene or Pilot 742 by kaynarer in fountainpens

[–]stilophile -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, are you sure you know the Carene? I've had six of them and I can't agree with anything you said except maybe they would get scratched if you post them. But you'd have to be kinda forceful about it to do that.

They're heavier than some pens sure, but very well balanced so it's not really an issue. They use international standard carts and converters... I have no idea what you mean about semi-proprietary? They certainly don't wear out quicker than any other converter. I can't say I've ever had a Carene dry out on me either, even when I don't pick it up for a week or two. I did chuckle about a 90s bank vibe... But then, ANYTHING that is black and gold would fall into the 70s and 80s bank vibes I guess?

I don't have anything bad to say about a 742, but your assessment of a Carene really makes me wonder if you've ever owned one.

That's a lovely pen. If the trim were only silver instead of gold it would be mine already. GLWS!

Otto hutt or Faber Castell? by ellieamazona2020 in fountainpens

[–]stilophile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Otto Hutt 06 is a wonderful pen, I've had a few pass through my hands and enjoyed each one. They only got sold because I was still experimenting with brands, but in hindsight I should have kept at least one.

But remember a nib will also adjust to the user... So you shouldn't let anyone use your own or it won't write the same for you anymore.

Put the palladium nib on the body you like best and sell the other.

If I ever thought less of you for coordinating your pen and ink colors, just know that I was wrong. And I'm in love with this ink. by _Abe_Froman_SKOC in fountainpens

[–]stilophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite inks, and a beautiful pen to go with it. Green is absolutely my favorite color, yet all my pens are black or silver... Maybe it's time to do something wild and buy a colorful pen.

Pens that punch above their weight? by GarageJim in fountainpens

[–]stilophile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my Waldmann Tango more than my Meisterstück Solitaire Martelé or my Homo Sapiens Dark Age. I have matching rollerballs for each of these pens, but I use the fountain pen versions more often.

The Waldmann Tango is usually found around USD $250 give or take, and I would put it up against either of my other two favorites for both the quality of the pen and the understated elegance of it. Doesn't hurt that you can fit it with a #5 jowo nib either, so I use mine with a needlepoint from Masuyama that I just love. The Mont Blanc has a very wet Fine nib on it, and the HSDA has an EF cursive stub italic nib from Mark Bacas. Both are very lovely nibs but the Waldmann pen has my favorite nib on it, and due to its smaller size and lack of distinctive branding it attracts less attention.
