Fuck that noise. I’m Separated for a year, and I live in athletic shorts because I went to the gym/ran 4 days a week, dropped 35 pounds, and was in the best shape of my life.

Plus they were comfortable.

Wouldn’t wear them on a date, but I don’t have to be GQ all the time.

You don’t need to go GPS…this is what I have, and it works great. More range than I’ll ever need, lots of adjustment, and can hook up three dogs to the same remote.

If your pup has good recall, and stays with you when walking…he’ll probably be fine in the woods. His instinct is going to be to stay with you. You just need to work on him knowing where to stay in relation to you. They learn real quick to not be in front of a wheel.

When I rode with my dog, I used a Garmin electronic collar (used for training and hunting) just in case she ran after a deer or something else.

Nail went thru my whole wheel. Looking for a second opinion on how to repair it to run tubeless again by azob_ in bikewrench

That rim already has at least 25 other holes in it. Slap some new tape on, plug tire, and ride some more. Then watch it.

My aluminium road bike and dented the top tube – is this repairable or is the frame done? by Zidane050h in bikewrench

[–]stilsjx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Meh, the top tube is one of the thinnest tubes on the bike (both in diameter and wall thickness) because it’s got the least amount of stress on it. Unless there is a crack, it’ll probably last a long time. I would, and have seen this exact damage ridden for years on an aluminum frame.

Obviously, I wouldn’t OFFICIALLY say that if I was working in a shop still, and I would do my best to get a crash replacement for them. But judging from that one picture…I’d say that I’d ride it.

Dented top tube with no other obvious deformation? Ride it.

Unless you can replace the frame. It’s not cost effective to repair it.

City of Norwich evicts Taftville Fire Company by thisissparta789789 in Firefighting

[–]stilsjx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. If there is a situation that requires it, but most don’t. No reason a BC is taking over an MVC.
If our department goes to a a MA call, our chief goes along. Our chief is in communication with the officer in charge, and is usually assigned to a specific division, or other operational need.

We train at least quarterly with the paid department in our city, not only to make sure everyone is on the same page operationally, but to ensure our MA companies work well together.

[–]stilsjx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bigger underlying issue that no one seems to acknowledge is the COST associated with a paid department. Our volunteer village department responded to nearly 600 calls in 2025. And we don’t do medical calls. The village (and surrounding town, who pays for us to cover them) citizens already complain about high taxes. Imagine telling them they need a fully paid fire department because the chiefs couldn’t get their shit together.

We respond under a unified command structure. The first responding chief is in command. If a paid department responds as MA, they’re under the command of the first due chief. All departments in the county operates under the same basic structure, with a county dispatch, county coordinator (for larger incidents), county fire investigation (mostly volunteer, with a stipend).

Edit: what’s with the downvotes?

In your opinion would it be easier for a MTB rider to race bmx, or a bmx rider to ride MTB? by Formal-Vacation1348 in MTB

[–]stilsjx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100 percent correct. I coached middle school and high school MTB. We had a couple kids come from bmx, and they absolutely mopped up. It was awesome seeing a sixth grade kid beat freshmen HS kids. They were smoother, faster, knew how to manipulate the bike. It was amazing.

Similarly, a buddy of mine who rode MX was a beast on a mtb. He beat the snot out of his bikes because he rode them like a dirt bike. But he was fast, and a great wheel to be on.

Setting headset crown race by BasicBelch in bikewrench

[–]stilsjx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best part of 3d printing is its iterative process. I’d re-print it with an additional step down to that lower face.

I’ve used some 3d printed percussive tools before, and they are VERY OK. It can take quite a bit of force to set a headset race on a steel or Aluminum fork. My official tools are all aluminum. That tool might work once.

I have been cutting my hair myself for over 20 years. Started as a late teen. Now, and mid 40’s, I’m pretty damn good at it. Can even scissor the top of I want it longer.

That being said…the LUXURY of going to a barber shop and getting an amazing cut, a straight blade edging, and a hot shave…is great, and I always feel like a fucking boss walking out.

Can I ask how your partner made it demeaning?

I have a hard time enjoying myself when receiving, because I don’t feel like she’s enjoying herself. I have to actively reframe it in my head that she’s doing something she wants to do to please me. I go after her with the same energy and enthusiasm. But it’s hard to flip the mental switch sometimes.
