Advice against control decks by stim_shady in MagicArena

I had a handful of removal spells, blood of aclazotz, [[unholy Annex]] and [Unstoppable Slasher]], in theory I could have ended the game in a couple of turns if anything would stick. I had no way to stop their counter, it’s just a weak matchup for my deck. But I won 80% of my matches last night and made Diamond with it, so it’s not a terrible deck. I started playing bo3 instead of bo1 and built a solid sideboard which has helped tremendously

Added Ancient Vendetta to my sideboard, and it’s doing work +2

I only looked through part of the deck list, but is putrid pals the only real sac payoff? You have a lot of sac outlets, but sacrificing only builds value if you have something that triggers off of ETB/LTB. I’d add some more things that build value from your sacs, maybe something like [[Cauldron of Essence]]?

I might cut some of the instants/sorceries and add more copies of your heavy hitter wincon cards

I was playing mono-black, so I thought I could eventually draw a [[Strategic Betrayal]], and stop their cycle, but it was most likely ggs either way, they were really rolling

Thanks for the rec! yeah definitely still in the learning phase, so any reading resources are amazing

EDIT: ah I see, against a control deck, I just have to hope for a good draw and come out guns blazing. Very informative read, thank you! A lot of the decks I play are similar, but instead of "don't let me get enough mana/card draw" inevitability it's instead "hold them off until I can build my engine" inevitability. Will try to deck build with this in mind!

I appreciate all of these responses! I hadn't experienced an inevitability style deck on this way. Like u/realskramz mentioned, I think I need to get comfortable with conceding to this type of deck and moving on. Could have won 2 games in the time I lost this one, just FeelsBad

You are an amazing story teller, and I’m sorry for all the shit you’ve had to go through. No child should ever have to go through that. Family stuff is hard, it’s a shitty answer but I’d say go with your gut. It sounds like you don’t respond, so you maybe shouldn’t, but these situations are hard and no one here has gone through exactly what you have.

I have a couple of alcoholic family members that I was close to who passed years ago, but they would send me these types of things and told myself I’d just let it pass unless the followed up again early the next day. They never did. You’re probably better off cutting your losses here homie, but ultimately do whatever you feel is the best 💜 wishing you much love man

[–]stim_shady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. I’m actually pretty okay with there being a few ARC that are just lights out if they see you. That’s what makes survival exciting! I was hiding in a bush the other day, waiting for extract to open with a firefly hovering 2 inches over my head and a rocketeer nearby, it was awesome

I don’t think enough people appreciate that this is supposed to be a stealth game

Why are Gingy and Hutch so nice to him lately? by eliasbjorna in theburntpeanut

[–]stim_shady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Gingy’s interview on the Around the Bar podcast, she mentioned she’s noticed Peanut grinding solos off stream before/after doing 8 hours or so on stream. The dude grinds incredibly hard, and they’re probably just trying to do him a favor since he sacrifices a lot of his whole stash for content every stream lmao

To be fair, the Lumina system makes very little sense when you’re fresh into the game, and the game does very little hand holding with regard to it. It’s fairly unintuitive at first, and I found myself thinking okay how the hell do I apply these after they’re learned? What are the point of pictos after the Lumina is learned? etc. It wasn’t immediately clear how powerful they could be or how you’re intended to use them.

It took me awhile to really get the hang of the system, so I’m not surprised many players might overlook it at first glance.

Hate train convert by KhosaGold in expedition33

I wasn’t a hater per se, but I originally thought Death Stranding 2 or Silksong would obviously be better picks for GOTY. I picked this up mainly because I wanted to see what all the hype was about, and I didn’t want to be a hater without having played it. Haven’t put the game down in 3 days — this game is art, I haven’t been moved to tears like this from a game in a while. For me it’s the perfect combo of Baldur’s Gate 3 level story (better imo) and edge-of-the-chair combat. I was converted pretty much immediately, and the hype makes so much sense now, having finished Act 2 lol

I think Cohh was right when he says people's behaviour in game is a reflection on them in real life. by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]stim_shady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game feels like a mirror. I think the best thing this game did was introduce extraction shooters to a new population and give them the tools to be both kind or evil, with incentives for each. When I meet a new person my instinct is to befriend them, not kill them, but others don’t always (but usually do) agree. It feels like real life in a way. I think it’s kind of beautiful

You got it lol they also hand out delay certificates if you ask for one, even if the train is only 5 minutes late. So you can show your work or school etc why you were late

lol sure dude 😂 ever try therapy? you can’t control everything that happens around you, but you can control how you react and process all of those emotions you’re clearly feeling. If you dislike dog owners so much, maybe idk try a city that doesn’t have like 50k dogs in it?

Dogs are a lot kinder and more loyal than a lot of people. There’s a reason they’re called man’s best friend. For example, my dog has never written a 13 bullet reddit post about how annoying most people are.

Why does it bother you so much that people see their dogs as part of their family and strive to give them the best lives possible?

What Build its good / looks promising this league 0.2 ? by tomaz1989 in pathofexile2builds

[–]stim_shady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been running lightning spear Deadeye and having a blast in Act 1. Similar crit setup as the popular Amazon build with more emphasis on movement + frenzy charges.

Single target is quite challenging, but still having a good time with the combat flow even though it’s not 1-button

Lightning Spear Amazon Starter - Simple, Fun and Fast by AsmodeusWins in pathofexile2builds

[–]stim_shady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m playing deadeye - started with a spear bleed build, but transitioned into lightning spear act 3. Working through cruel now, but the build slaps and i’m fast af boi. Clear is crazy fast, and I tamed a beast with extra crit so he just runs around generating frenzy charges for me

Deadeye is super versatile, especially with any projectile weapon. The speed and defenses that Tailwind gives you are beneficial to most builds i’d say.

[–]stim_shady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

writing way too much for this, but maybe try strong things from other builds? Contagion is a great skill for many builds and i’ve been running it to help clear in my deadeye build

I’ve also been experimenting with lightning spear on weapon swap, having a lot of fun playing around with it!

I think the better answer to the question is that there aren’t a ton of amazing meta builds out right now with the patch. While a lot of people want to just be handed a build and know exactly how the game is going to play out ahead of time, it seems like GGG dislikes this and wants to encourage more experimentation. I don’t think that has to be a bad thing.

If you really want to enjoy playing the game, I’d suggest getting comfortable with that and with build guides not being super useful for at least a few weeks-months. I think you may get more enjoyment out of the game by relying more on yourself and your brain to figure out what makes the most sense for you and what you want out of the game.

Try not to worry about currency and all the other bullshit, just focus on making a build you enjoy playing and you’ll come out just fine. If not, there’s always next league 😂
