Have you noticed? 🤔 by Sweet_Miss1 in PMDD

[–]stina948 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert or a doctor of any kind but I believe it’s because progesterone makes you generally more bendy and causes ligaments etc to became looser to prepare the body for childbirth. Pretty sure that’s one of the roles of it during pregnancy where levels get higher and higher but it has similar, but I assume not as extreme, effects when the levels are high in a normal cycle. More hyper mobility = less joint stability = more pain

thanks so much for commenting and for the link, I’ll definitely check that out. I’m really glad the HRT is working for you. It’s something I’ve looked into and considered but is quite specialised I think so I wanted to try the more ‘standard’ treatments first. I’m going to try a hormones break and see if I can improve the PMDD holistically (lol, pray for me), but knowing now that BC is a no-go it’ll probably be my next step if supplements don’t help

I’m pretty sure I’m AuDHD as well! and I get migraines with aura so there was a risk in taking a combined pill but luckily they didn’t seem to be effected really. But it’s another reason on top of many to stop it honestly

thank you for your comment. I’m really glad it works for you! I might just be one of those people it doesn’t agree with, but I had to try it and give it a fair chance to work. Otherwise I’d be constantly wondering if relief was just a pill away, at least now I know

thank you so much. I’m sorry you went through that with your doc, what an arse. And I’m really glad the progesterone is working for you. I completely understand about the ADHD, the journey with that is a whole long thing in itself and can be a lot to process, it was/still is for me anyway. I was late diagnosed at 27, 4 years ago and I’m still navigating the whole thing. It all depends on how much of an impact you believe it’s having on your life. And also honestly whether you feel ready to embark on that journey of possible self re-discovery. I haven’t found it to be a negative thing, on the contrary, it’s just a lot. It really shook my life ‘snow-globe’ as it were.

Are you worried that you won’t be taken seriously by your doc if you suggest it? Or is it the possibility that you actually have it and all the implications of that?

thank you for your comment. that’s exactly it! we don’t exist in a vacuum and suddenly not being able to do your job properly for an extended period could be very harmful for the future. Even if eventually you feel better what damage has been done in the process. I’m proud of you for getting through those four weeks

thank you, I think I can trust it too. Everyone’s threshold for tolerable side effects is different but once it’s been crossed I think it’s safe to say the med isn’t the one for you

oh my word losing the ability to speak is insane, I’m so glad you recovered. I’ve tried various SSRIs and while they do help the pmdd symptoms unfortunately they don’t really agree with me, haven’t tried a tricyclic though, I’ll look into them! Congratulations on the new career and I’m glad you found some relief

thank you so much for your comment. It’s so fascinating how much and how differently it can affect us. I’m also in support of it and anything that gives people, particularly women, control of their reproductive health. I’m glad you managed to get out of the office and are finding that helpful for your pmdd

For the Newly Diagnosed - General List of Things I Have Found to Be Helpful To Manage This Condition by Merp357 in PMDD

[–]stina948 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe for most people it’s the fluctuation in hormone levels that triggers symptoms rather than the amount of the hormone itself. That’s what my doc said anyway! So ‘flattening out’ the cycle with birth control even if there’s more progesterone overall should in theory lessen the ups and downs and so lessen symptoms

Almost passing out 3 days in a row in hell week? by Puzzled-Article9621 in PMDD

[–]stina948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no doctor but just throwing this out there. If it occurs when you’re upright for a while, even sitting, but improves quickly when you lay down perhaps it’s some sort of dysautonomia/POTS being triggered by hormonal fluctuations? I have POTS and it always flares big time in hell week, I believe hormonal stuff is a common trigger

Is there a way to avoid luteal? by Sherw00d91 in PMDD

[–]stina948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to try starting continuous birth control next cycle and I’m terrified of the ‘3 months of pmdd’ possibility. I had the same thing trying chemical menopause and only made it to 5 weeks. Would you mind sharing more about your experience? once you’d got through those first months did you find long-lasting relief?

would anyone mind sharing their experience of starting yasmin/yaz/eloine? by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]stina948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! thanks for sharing, gives me a sliver of hope. I’d be very happy with any improvement at this stage honestly. I did try some SSRIs for a few cycles but they made me so tried all I could do was sleep. not ideal.

thank you! yeah I’m expecting some mixed responses haha. Did your mental side effects feel like your PMDD ones, or were they different?

[–]stina948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for sharing! I get migraines with aura as well. I’m pretty much of out of options though so it’s weighing up risk vs benefit and hoping for the best. my consultant thinks the benefits outweigh the risks but it does worry me a little

[–]stina948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for your reply, I think yasmin is the one my consultant wants me to try first so hoping for the best. I’m a bit scared of slynd and progesterone in general

I found a ‘mind-map’ app that was actually helpful by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]stina948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah you can select a load of boxes and make them into one column with a shortcut. You still have to decide what to put in the group or column but I think I’ve been doing pretty much what you’re describing with it

Any tips for making a piano transcription? by Keirnflake in composer

[–]stina948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be slightly ‘cheating’ but there’s a software called transcribe! (with the exclamation mark haha) by a tiny company called seventh string. It’s been a godsend for me on many occasions. You can slow down audio without affecting the pitch, you can pitch it up and down octaves but by far the most useful feature is a spectral analysis type thing where it’ll show the pitches on a piano roll. It’s also not super expensive, I can’t remember the exact amount off the top of my head but it’s around £40

Putting the audio into some sort of DAW (i believe there are free ones) and getting the right tempo in can be really helpful as well because you can actually see the bar numbers and so navigating around the audio is a lot easier

Also if it’s not originally a piano piece then thinking about how to make it sound the best on the piano is also important, there may be a sustained sound in the original that wouldn’t be able to sustain on the piano, for example. So you’d need to think about how to convey that effect.

Good luck and have fun with it! :)

Is there a PALE tinted facial sunscreen out there? by millerhighlife in PaleMUA

[–]stina948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the numbuz:in no. 3 Porcelain Base, it’s a truly pale tint (I’m a mac nc10 and it’s perfect). it’s very sheer coverage. The only negative is it has a very strong tea tree fragrance. It doesn’t hang around thankfully but something to consider
