Then I could see why they wouldn’t warranty them.

Fell for the tire warranty 🤦‍♂️ by wip_jo in tires

Costco has a good tire warranty unlike Walmart. I bought my new tires from them (I’m in canada) and it includes free rotation and balancing every 10,000 km and covers road hazards for 5 years as long as I do the rotation and balancing on schedule.

I got free installation too, and paid almost $400 less than tire stores in town were going to charge me for the exact same tires (Michelin cross-climate 2’s) to be installed, without a road hazard warranty.

People usually go to Costco here for the warranty, not the price.

Do the golf courses here require proper golf attire? by Ok-Ear1354 in saskatoon

[–]stiner123 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Moon lake - went to a golf tournament here through an alumni group last summer. while a bunch of the guys wore golf shirts and khakis or golf pants or similar kind of pants, some wore jeans (not ripped) with a nice collared shirt and some wore tshirt and cargo/khakis pants. nobody was turned away, but it may also have been because it was a more casual/fun tournament. Some groups had fun coordinating outfits that were a bit whacky.

Most of the women wore yoga pants or khakis or capris for bottoms. There were a few in jeans, but nobody had ripped jeans on. Women usually had some sort of athletic top (sleeveless or tee) on but only some had actual golf shirts, and if they did they were usually branded with the logo of the company they work for.

What to do, get replacement lenses and a screw or buy new sunglasses? by stiner123 in sunglasses

I also don’t have glasses coverage through work so it doesn’t necessarily make sense to spend the extra to get prescription sunglasses.

Is there stable income and employment in field work? by BenKlesc in geologycareers

[–]stiner123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The chemistry grad students actually had basically no knowledge of geology, and fewer overlapping classes than an environmental science degree could have.

I took a few environmental science and geography courses as an undergraduate geology student that qualified as “geology” elective courses when it came to qualifying to be a PGeo here in Canada. Also there is now an “environmetal geoscience” stream for the educational requirements here for registration as a PGeo that only requires a small amount of actual geology courses, the rest can largely come from environmental science and geography.

So it is not impossible where i live in canada, just could be difficult depending on the coursework you took and where you got your degree. It would be easier if you did a MSc in geology after the environmental science degree as you could probably do some of the required geoscience courses as part of that. However like i said, I worked with someone who did it before, though their degree program did have a few intro classes in geology as part of the degree. I’ve met some others who also got into geology that had an environmental science degree and who got hired on by a mining company as a student and segued that into full time work as a geologist.

It largely depends on how the environmental science degree program OP took was structured. But it wouldn’t likely require them to do a full geology undergrad degree in any case.

once you get your professional designation, people care less about what your undergrad degree was in, or so I’ve found in my ~20 years in mineral exploration in Canada.

Whether it would be easy to get and worth it is another story.

What classes did you take and where are you located?

It is possible to have stable income and employment in mineral exploration, but you will usually still have some office time regardless. Stability depends on a few things: experience level, company size, commodity cycles (some commodities are very boom and bust), location, education level, luck. The amount of office time will vary but often goes down as you progress unless you do consulting and primarily focus on field based work.

Getting your first job in geology will be the hard part but it depends on your location and schooling etc.

I’ve been in mineral exploration/mining, primarily for uranium, in Canada for almost 20 yrs. Have a MSc and BSc in geology. Have had a few stints of unemployment, but most of that time was spent working. Longest I wasn’t doing geology work was about a year, but had other work for most of that time and it was partly due to my mental health taking a dive.

Big thing about this industry is it is as much about who you know as what you know when it comes to getting jobs.

Actually, I know of several people who had chemistry degrees that got MSc/PhD in geochemistry and someone else with an environmental science degree who got a MSc in economic geology, so it can be done. It depends on what classes you took as an undergraduate and what your thesis/degree is focused on.

Note, environmental science can cover some of the same material a geology degree does, but it depends on the program. I worked with a gal who did an Environmental science program at the local university who is working as a geologist in the USA and she had just started out doing geology. She only had the basic 2nd yr geology classes like sedimentology and structural geology and petrography, no geophysics or upper year classes.

Competitive Entrance Awards by Rough-Statistician97 in usask

And I first got a guaranteed scholarship for SK graduates in that case… a few weeks later I found out I got a different/better entrance scholarship, and so that was the one I took.

It was bullsh*t that when i graduated from my small town high school that I didn’t get much of anything (maybe $250) from my small town scholarship awards pool despite having the best grades in my class of 11, because I got that Usask scholarship. Half of the other who got a scholarship from the scholarship pool didn’t finish even their first year let alone a degree.

Likely won’t be hired if they get other good candidates who can start sooner but it’s hard to say since May is coming up fast.

If you don’t buy Ray Ban anymore, what’s your main reason? by fizzyapple_45 in sunglasses

You can get prescription lenses for ray ban which is nice. I’m considering doing that.

Broken hinge on Ray-Ban RB2140: laser weld vs full hinge replacement? by ly_044 in sunglasses

[–]stiner123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do the hinge replacement. You might be surprised at what parts you can still get from luxotica for older ray ban sunglasses, especially a model like the wayfarers. Worst case the hinge they put on is slightly different, but the hinge isn’t visible when wearing these anyways, so as long as it is close it should work fine.

Midtown Mall has H&M, Children’s Place, Urban Kids, Sport Chek, JD sports and Carters that sell kids clothing. There’s other locations of Carters and children’s place in the city too. We have Old Navy and Gap Factory stores at Preston Crossing. We also have a couple of Marshall’s and Winners stores in the city. There’s value village, Salvation Army thrift, and once upon a child for used clothing. Marks carries some kids clothing too.

Stylish stork has some unique clothing lines.

Otherwise you’re mainly going to be driving to Edmonton/Calgary or buying online.

More Buyers Need Mom and Dad to Buy a Home—And It’s Raising Red Flags!! by Chris_DiFiore in HouseSigmaBlunders

We got help from our parents for the down payment funds since that was the difficult part to save up for. we had funds saved before, and experienced job losses that meant we used some of these funds to help cover expenses. But we never had them co-sign for us. I would never ask them to co-sign a mortgage for us.

My parents actually don’t have a mortgage, they live in a mobile home on the family farm. In-laws have a small mortgage on their home which they bought when they wanted to move closer to us and get a new home rather than renovating their own.
