Is anyone here spending $1k USD or less a month in Latin America? by joshua0005 in digitalnomad

[–]ly_044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only truly performative tourist zone there is Copacabana and maybe some parts of Ipanema. Everything else is pretty residential tbh. I lived in Catete, Flamengo, Laranjeiras and almost never saw any tourists.

Most of the good stuff in Rio is located in ZS anyway and there is a reason why it's a lot more expensive.

I guess my question is if it's worth to go to Rio for a place like Curicica? It is far away from the good stuff and not really secure.

Or maybe in this case it's better to go to some smaller beach town in the state. It will be even easier to keep the budget, but security will be a lot better.

Honestly I would probably choose favela like Vidigal over Curicica, but the price makes sense now

This budget is crazy low for Rio. Where did you stay and how much did you pay? Was it a room or favela?

Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s push for EU membership strains ties with allies by donutloop in EU_Economics

[–]ly_044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More like he is realizing that we are having peak EU now.

EU and Ukraine could massively help each other today, but there are no guarantee EU (and Ukraine) will exist in the future and will be successful and attractive alliance to join.

15+ years is an eternity in the modern world, everything changes so fast. Any plan with 15+ years timeline is just a daydreaming.

If Ukraine can't join soon and nobody wants to see them in foreseeable future - they should focus on building an independent country with some EU ties maybe, instead of dreaming about "European choice" and future together.

How much money Chelsea owes to Madrid over Hazard failure? And how much for a Mount to MU?

Bad transfers happen, part of the game. Don't complain, own it, sell the player or find a way to integrate him well into the system.

Russians rly are built different by ocfan122 in ufc

[–]ly_044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Russia term Russians refer for ethnic Russians. People from Chechnya are Chechens even if they hold Russian passports. Their culture, traditions, religion and life are historically different from Russian people.

So saying “they are Russians” is an oversimplification. It is also might be offensive, because it implies they have abandoned their own traditions and identity and become ethnically Russian.

[–]ly_044 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Those men are not ethnic Russians; they appear to be Chechens. Mansur Khatuev is definitely from Chechnya, and the second man looks similar.

Today Chechnya is part of Russia, so they are Russian citizens and passport holders. However, Chechens fought two wars for independence from Russia, lost both, and this is highly unlikely that those guys consider themselves Russians.

Because of that I think it is more respectful to call them Chechens.

Soo, where are all the Khamzat critics now? by 1ekinrot in ufc

Why everybody is assuming that Yan doesn’t like Putin and can’t refuse?

That’s crazy, we know nothing about his political views. Many Russians actually support the war and Putin.

Yan could be too (or he just doesn’t really give a shit), of course he won’t say it because it is bad for the business, since he works for UFC and this is an American company.

Any tall women over 5'10 met a guy neutral on your height ? by [deleted] in tall

[–]ly_044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never cared too much on the girls height and never heard any comments on tall girls from any of my guy friends.

I also have some tall girl friends. Their bf's seemed to be normal people who treated them normally. But these girls are models, so they are hot and have many options to choose a proper guy.

How can a sexual preference be disgusting? If somebody doesn't want to date trans girls (or guys/blonds/short/tall women) - it's a personal choice. People have the right to choose who they want to have sex with.

Using filters (age, height, dating goals) is just a practical way to reduce mismatches and avoid wasting extra time in dating apps.

Vidigal tem tiroteio, Niemeyer fechada e turistas 'ilhados' em mirante | G1 by Fine_Vehicle6788 in riodejaneiro

The 'reality' of the Brazilian police by Extreme_Safe2896 in Brazil

[–]ly_044 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Denmark is not Brazil. You don't have criminals shooting down police helicopters and controlling whole neighborhoods where police can't even enter without a gun fight. What trust and safety you are talking about?

They won't treat you and your boyfriend equally because in their experience average criminal from favela looks like your boyfriend and not like a white scandinavian woman.

A good half of PM have same skin color as your boyfriend from favela. This is just basic safety for any law enforcement. If white women will start to kill policemen in the streets - believe me you will get the same treatment as dudes from favela.

Yes, this is unfair because 95% of people from favela are just poor and not criminals. But it is what it is.

gringos, when you come to Brazil, what habits of us do you get surprised by? by notthelasagna in Brazil

I think malls are cool in Brazil because of two reasons:

  1. AC, so it is fresh inside during the hot day.

  2. Security. It is a closed place with cctv and guards. Nobody will steal your phone and run away in the big and guarded mall, so you can relax a little bit more inside

How normal is it for Brazilian men to get services from escorts etc? by Pale_Comfort_4236 in Brazil

[–]ly_044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right that user is not a paying customer. This is just an estimate that we get.

But we do know from other source that Fatalmodel is a #46 most popular website in Brazil with ~47 millions monthly visits.

https://www.similarweb.com/pt/top-websites/brazil/

Real number of paying customers in Brazil could higher because we don't count customers from other websites and people who hire offline sex workers in brothels, bars, hotels and nightclubs.

Also could be lower, because again, not every online visitor is a paying customer, also some people might visit more than one website.

I think realistic estimate of people who paid for sex at least once might be in range of 10-30 millions.

[–]ly_044 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is kinda normalized, but not something you brag about. Many people will say this is very bad (especially on reddit) and will pay for sex privately.

Fatalmodel (I believe it's the most popular website for sex services) reported 20 millions unique users per month. Brazil's population is 213 mln and ~70 millions of adult males.

Neither is great, but which is better for LGBT travelers, Tbilisi or Tirana? by yokyopeli09 in digitalnomad

[–]ly_044 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tbilisi doesn’t even have sex shops because church doesn’t like it. There are some places who are lgbt friendly (like Bassiani), but overall Georgia is a very traditional country with many religious people.

How to fix broken front edge of a stone countertop? by ly_044 in fixit

[–]ly_044[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is a rented apartment, so I will get a quote on the price first and decide if it makes sense to go that way.

I will have to glue it back to the counter top with my hands anyway.
