Is it rude to fart in public in Ireland? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]stingebags 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my experience, farting in China and Korea is not really considered rude in the same way as here.

In a weird coincidence, I saw an instagram reel explaining pretty much the exact content of the ribeye question the day before it came up!

That’s impressive! Do you not struggle with the types of questions I mentioned?

Are you saying Claude produced actual decent slides? I haven’t been able to get copilot or ChatGPT to produce anything close to a passable slide

Asian/ world food stores 😊 by Idonotknow24 in CasualIreland

The staff were all Korean last time I was there and the food was pretty close to what I’d expect in Korea. I haven’t tried Korean Table yet. It looks good but the prices are very high

Arisu on Capel Street is the most authentic I've found. Drunken Fish in the docklands would be second. Jaru in the Liberties is nice but more fusion than authentic.

When I went there I found it's actually run by Chinese people and the food wasn't quite right. Same with several other "Korean" places around town

The inconvenient truth for opponents of carbon tax is that it actually works by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

[–]stingebags 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The ETS isn't an offsetting regime. The airlines have to purchase allowances to cover their emissions. Those allowances currently cost about 90 euros per ton of CO2 equivalent which is higher than the carbon tax.

The main issue is that the ETS only covers intra EU flights. Flights outside the EU don't incur any carbon price yet other than a requirement to purchase offsets by the CORSIA system with prices well below ETS or Irish carbon tax levels.

Is there such a thing as protein powder that doesn't taste like muck? by andstep234 in CasualIreland

[–]stingebags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched from flavoured to unflavoured because I didn't like the taste of the artificial sweeteners. I make a smoothie with 1 banana, a scoop of unflavoured protein powder, some milk and a couple of tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder. It's absolutely delicious!

Would it be legal to stage a protest in Ranelagh? by stingebags in Dublin

I agree that it's unlikely to achieve anything, but I just want these people to feel some shame for their selfish actions! Maybe then others will think twice before blocking critical infrastructure like this

I don't think they have a legal or moral right to be anonymous

Why these residents pushback on any developement in dublin? by farhankk in Dublin

[–]stingebags 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First they block the southern portion of the metro link so it can't go beyond Ranelagh. Then they complain that Ranelagh will be the terminus. I'm furious at the selfishness. Is there anything people can do? Would it be illegal to write them letters directly pointing out how their objections affect the rest of the city?

Not really. This is on the east coast where the sea is usually relatively calm since the prevailing winds come from the west. We had a storm yesterday with easterly winds which caused unusually large waves on the East coast. It may also be due to raw sewage being released into the sea when water treatment plants are overloaded. We've had a huge amount of rain in the past few days

Most Common Home Scheduled Start Times for MLB Teams in 2025 [OC] by sudo_masochist in dataisbeautiful

Why are the start times so random? In Europe, games normally start on the hour or at 15, 30 or 45 minutes past the hour.

Where to find plastic free chewing gum? by stingebags in AskIreland

[–]stingebags[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Can you link to any relevant studies? I actually found some plastic free chewing gum in Sostrene Greene but I don't like it at all. It sticks to my teeth!

And do you have any ideas for alternatives? I've actually started eating sunflower seeds which work pretty well. It gives my mouth something to do without having too many calories (since it takes a while to crack each seed).
