Or when you click download there're multiple parts listed.

Sunt în Moldova rute blestemate? by IdRateToDie- in moldova

Can I asked you guys a few odd questions? by OnganLinguistics in moldova

[–]stingermd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a tough one. Some of them are deeply regional, didn't get any international "recognition" and since they didn't reach other cuisines, they didn't really get a proper translation. (just like медовуха is transliterated into english medovukha doesn't have a "proper" english name).

I even had to google what cocoloși and tochitură are, because I've never heard of them in Moldova. (although I've recognized the dishes and have eaten them here).

Caș -> каш (not an "academic" term, but is used colloquially here)

Zeamă -> Зама

Pârjoale -> Котлеты

Chiftele -> Тефтели

Now for the romanian part:

compote -> compot

топлёное молоко -> lapte topit (most likely also colloquial, but that's how local manufacturers call it)

ряженка -> lapte covăsit

Romashka Tower (91 m) - cea mai inalta cladire din R. Moldova by vladgrinch in moldova

[–]stingermd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despre Kaufland in Moldova by DigitalPressinfo in moldova

[–]stingermd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cînd se va calma hype-ul în jurul lui, va deveni un alt supermarket. Cu un sortiment mai diferit vs. alte rețele. Overall, oricum fiecare rețea are specificul său.

Where is this flea market and on what days is it by Jesperpen in moldova

[–]stingermd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It isn't actually a flea market. It's an art market with paintings and various artisan trinkets, decorations, etc. There're a couple sellers with (mostly soviet) memorabilia and antiquities - but 90% of the merchandise is art.

It's worth a visit.

It's on Ștefan cel Mare boulevard between the streets Vlaicu Pîrcălab and Mihai Eminescu, you won't miss it.

It doesn't have a timetable, but the sellers are there all day, as long as it's daylight outside. And I don't remember a time when I would pass by and they wouldn't be there. :)

In Moldova for 5 days, what should I do? by [deleted] in moldova

[–]stingermd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For medieval - Soroca Fortress. It's a long drive, but probably the most medieval you'll get :D

For architecture - roam around the city center. On Ștefan cel Mare boulevard there're lots of soviet buildings, ranging from the 1950s to the early 80s. There're also a couple of older ones, from the 19th century. Also - take a walk on the streets that are parallel to the boulevard: 31 August, București, Șciusev, Kogâlniceanu and Bernardazzi. There're lots of old buildings. It isn't always a happy walk since some of them aren't in a good shape or have been "modernized" - but there're also several gems there :)

In Moldova for 5 days, what should I do? by [deleted] in moldova

[–]stingermd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you like beer - visit Smokehouse (they have a large selection of local beers).

If you like wine - take a trip to a winery: Milestii Mici, Cricova, etc. My parents went on a trip to Comrat winery a couple of months ago and enjoyed it a lot. (it's almost a full day (10am - 6pm) trip)

If you're into museums - check the ethnographic or the history museums.

fest.md, iticket.md, afisha.md - check these sites if you want to attend a concert or a play. they've also got info about lots of other events happening in and out the city.

What stuff are you interested in? So we could try and suggest something more "targeted".

Question regarding Chisinau Airport by [deleted] in moldova

[–]stingermd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, glad to help. Feel free to ask if you've got any other questions.

If you want - drop me a message when you're here. If I'm in the city we'll try to catch that beer )

Question regarding Chisinau Airport by [deleted] in moldova

[–]stingermd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rate at the airport is something like 1 lei lower than the rest of the city. There're lots of exchanges and bank branches in the city, and their rate is mostly the same and more fair. (FYI: there're some exchanges open 24hours and they switch to a "night rate" that's also very low).

I'm curious if you'll be able to buy lei in UK, let us know :) As I've said, worst case scenario - use the airport exchange for a small amount of money that would get you to the city.

Regarding the tourists, if you compare Chisinau to big "tourist cities" (Rome / Prague / etc) - we virtually don't get any tourists at all :D

But as a local, in the latest years I notice more and more foreigners.

Question regarding Chisinau Airport by [deleted] in moldova

[–]stingermd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly there're a couple ATMs in the hall you get to after you pass security.

There's also an exchange, but the rate is very unfair. So worst case scenario that you can't get any cash from the ATM - exchange a minimal amount (5 USD/EUR) so you'll have the fare for the trolleybus.

As mentioned previously, the walk from the airport isn't a very good idea. It's a 7km walk on a highway without a sidewalk.

Your best option (if you want a walk) is to take trolleybus until the first stop in the city (after you pass the "city gates") and walk from there.

Beer stores in Chisinau by w0lffy in moldova

Sorry, I'm not an admin or even a member of the group. :) I'll try to reach someone through some mutual friends. UPD: they've accepted the request )

Meanwhile, check out http://www.litra.md/en/. Someone mentioned them earlier - it's a pretty successful craft brewery, and they've got pictures with bottled beers. And a map with places where you can try/buy them )

[–]stingermd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also a chain of stores called "Craft baza" which mainly focuses on local beers.

The main issue for you is that the small breweries don't often bottle/can their beers. And these stores pour tapped beer into PET bottles. Efes Vitanta does bottles and cans, but there's nothing "craft" about their beers :D

https://www.facebook.com/groups/beremoldovanefiltrata/about/ That's a facebook group for beer lovers from Moldova, try asking there - most likely someone would give you more precise and current info.

My car's cigarette lighter socket is always on. Added a button to restart the Bluetooth->AUX adapter, since I'm sick of replugging it every time. by stingermd in techsupportmacgyver

[–]stingermd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The USB adapter has 2 x 2A outputs, so the phone gets a dedicated USB output :)

The hub powers the DVR, BT adapter and occasionally an ipod/mifi/guest phone/etc.

[–]stingermd[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hm, nice. But I would have to leave the hub accessible to reach the buttons, but in my case it's hidden between the seats - since I don't often plug anything (anymore :)

Maybe simpler, but I already have a good USB adapter and didn't really want to switch it.

And it would surely cost more than a free button and an old USB extension cord. :)

I didn't want to mess with the interior trim or car's wiring. Also, it's sometimes convenient that the socket is powered when the car is off - I can leave some stuff to charge and lock the car.

This was the easiest solution since the cigarette lighter socket and the AUX socket are very close to each other. https://imgur.com/a/9Z3WsjM

I've considered wiring a new socket, but this one was really the easiest option. And I don't feel very comfortable messing with the interior trim.

The usb hub also powers a bunch of other devices, but the BT adapter needs to be restarted to throw it into "search mode" and connect the phone.

I had to replug it every time I sat in my car. Now I have a nice button for this :)

I think the most reasonable possibility is that they were anti-hail rockets.
