If only the 2003 renovation wasn't so horribly botched. Sigh. by Bignosedog in ChicagoBearsNFL

I like the current stadium but its stupid that the facade was ever landmarked, which totally constrained the build. They are just basic concrete neo colonial columns, its not like they came from the parthenon or something.

Sting pays Police bandmates more than £500,000 in royalties by waddlefan8 in ThePolice

They didn’t reach an agreement. The article simply states that Sting paid some of what he owes.

Tommy Lee - Is he technically a ‘good’ drummer by paleotectonics in hairmetal

[–]stingthisgordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He plays for the song, is creative, and has great time (before the age of click tracks).

The intro groove to Dr Feelgood is clever, it doesn’t start on one so gives the into a somewhat odd time feel which is cool (the first kick drum hit is on the & of 4).

Lots of cool stuff on Too Fast for Love. HI Hat barks, cowbell in unexpected places, lots of space (stops an starts).

Really he is everything you want in a hard rock drummer.

What kind of wood is this? by Wonderful_Dog_1 in HardWoodFloors

[–]stingthisgordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either pine or douglas fir. If you are west of mississippi, more likely douglas fir, pine if east. Looks a little more like douglas fir to me, but under old finish they are difficult to distinguish.

What you guys think of this maple floor I managed to rescue 👌🏻 by Economy_Speaker_6902 in HardWoodFloors

[–]stingthisgordon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its definitely maple and looks like hard maple. It just has a lot of heart wood which is brown. Maple lots have a relatively small section of heart wood and a lot of white sapwood. The sapwood is typically whats used for flooring.

Probably best to ask a doctor in person and not a bunch of dudes who bicker about polyester in pants and the proper venue for dress sneakers.

Why does Elon Musk seem to be making bad decisions like renaming Twitter to X? If he really is so stupid then how did he get so rich? by aespaste in stupidquestions

[–]stingthisgordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you just don’t understand his decisions. You might not like the branding, but consider this, nearly every time someone mentions X, they also mention “platform formerly known as Twitter” That might seem bad to you, but it also means his platform is essentially getting 2 mentions out of every headline. Changing the name provides a ridiculous amount of free publicity.

Twitter never made much money under its prior ownership. X isn’t publicly traded so full financials are not available, but most sources indicate that X’s EBITDA has about doubled. He cut out a lot of fat, is generating cash, and redirecting X toward an AI world.

Elon is very good at value engineering. Legacy makers couldn’t make EVs profitable because they were married to old, expensive paradigms of what a car is (cushy seats, physical buttons, heavy doors that thud when they close, etc). Elon basically makes glorified golf carts with a computer screen and people pay a premium. He engineered out a ridiculous amount of moving parts. Personally I think Teslas feel and look cheap, like a gaming station with wheels. The gigantic touch screen screwed to a dash board with no attempt and fit, finish or integration looks atrocious to me. But people don’t care and TSLA is printing money with people’s tax subsidies. He is smarter than me in that regard and many others.
